I agree with most of what you are saying and if it were not for Italy’s numbers, I might be saying the same thing. The difference with this and sars or swine flu is that after three months, there was no real evidence of spreading. We are in our third month and several countries are experiencing a much different situation than anyone did when sars was reported in the news.It is, however, understanding how contagious I think is the real question.
I only say this with reference to the SARS virus as I remember when it was circulating in the city and saw people walking around with masks, notably downtown and thinking ‘what the...?!!!’ back in 2003. It was on our news constantly and the "story" about the origin of it began making its’ rounds (someone in China ate a bat, I think). Years later, I spoke to a friend who works within the healthcare sector and confirmed that the entire SARS crisis was sensationalized by the media. She told me that it was the people in the hospitals and nursing homes who were really at risk, not the general public, which is why they’ve now implemented antibacterial hand sanitizers at every entrance, exit and hallway in all hospitals. She said and even then, the people who worked with the ailing patients took the necessary precautions, she being one of them.
I’m sure Awoken can speak for himself, but I think he’s suggesting that there seems to be quite a bit of fear porn in the thread. Shelves were also clearing out when the entire Y2K fiasco was going on. I remember when I wanted to buy some canned tuna shortly before New Years and the entire section was completely empty because people were stocking up on canned goods as though the world was coming to an end.
My only hope is by mid-April things will have calmed down just as did with the SARS virus.

That's what I was saying before. With accurate numbers it's probably more like 7-10% in reality...THats almost a 10% fatality rate.. well like 7% but much higher than the 3% we are being tol

Ours closed, barely any cases in the state and none in our county. NYC which has a lot of cases, still open. And they are going to force the schools to stay open, which seems very strange.
IKR? LoLI am pretty much over this whole thing already. I have enough shit to survive two months in this house except milk and vegetables. I also did not get alcohol because I typically don’t drink... tbh I may start at this point. Why the hell not?
I sincerely hope my decision to move out to the middle of the woods on the top of a mountain manages to spare me from martial law.. we have two cops in this town, both of whom i know by first name and have had numerous lovely conversations with. I can not picture either being okay with martial law so they would have to be replaced. Which would piss me the hell off.Yep, they are trying to impose their will. All schools in my state are closed, store hours are cut back and will soon close. I know someone who works with FEMA as a contractor and if enough people do not adhere, we could see martial law but we are not there yet. But they are ramping the control up in a major way and by Monday I imagine some will be confined to home and such.
And so it begins..The national guard has already been called in for fear of looters in some places. The addicts created with the opioid crisis will be trouble too and the homeless are at risk. I think some people will be in a bad way of being stuck at home and the stores tomorrow will look like when it snows in the south. They will control how many people can enter stores. I know some people who will stop going out in a kicking manner. Some are saying your pets can carry the virus now, what the heck?
