The see through veils on the traditional burka's are just as bad. We should not support a system of oppression against women and be forced to call it religious freedom. I am tired of people always trying to tell a country who created religious freedom, what religious freedom means. It doesn't mean supporting things that promote injustice against women in every place except in a country that has laws that protect women separately from their religions. The burka is tied to an ideology that is the main problem. I do want to protect my children from things like this. What about the see through veils. They would be more acceptable because you can see their faces. I think they look really pretty too.
When I watched the video, I felt grateful that school is required by law and a curriculum is established that has to be followed in order to receive credit for it in the US even when you consider the problems we have with our school systems. That way girls aren't taken out of schools to attend religious schools that don't teach them math or English. The system that supports women wearing any kind of veil in other countries is a system that supports taking girls out of schools to receive an education that does not include math or science. We should not pretend that accepting this is the same as giving someone religious freedom. It is same as looking the other way where there is real injustice. It is the same as saying it doesn't matter if this is happening somewhere else because it is not happening to me. If it is happening somewhere else, it could just as easily have an influence on where we are. I don't support religious freedom where it creates injustice. I don't think any good can come of it. It is the same as carelessly believing anything anyone says is true if they try to make it sound spiritual. Some things are not true even though people believe them. Some things are not true and they harm others even though people believe them. This is the difference. Religious freedom is given wherever someone believes something that may or may not be true that causes no harm. Where it causes harm, it should not be called religious freedom.
