Josh Garrels's "Train Song". Heard it in my mid-20s. Still good 17 years later. Plus, I don't think I've ever met a Josh/Joshua I didn't like. :)

Okay, I gotta share my love of Derek Webb. He may be apostate now and an alcoholic, so I've heard, but his past lyrics are honest and beautiful. He'll come back to the fold, I pray. He's so talented.

From college days, when he was with Caedmon's Call.

Such passion, such fire.

I started the thread so I can post a whole album up if I want to! The words of this album became part of me at a young age...

Silence by Jars of Clay. It's actually not my song, but I'm borrowing it. :) It was inspired by a friend of mine in Australia.

One of the most honest spiritual songs and one I think anyone can identify with.

It all rushes past so fast
My grip is tight, my lips white
This heart is steady but it's always ready to brake
Don't know how much I could take

So I stay on my side hugging the shoulder
Stare down the double line
Wondering what would dare, dare to cross over

I said I trust You and I do believe I do
Oh Lord, but must You ask me to prove it to You
I said I love You and I know it's true, I really do
Oh Lord, but please don't ask me to prove it to You

Leading your love up a dead end slope
Losing a life without losing hope
Could I break the boundary between word and deed
Take that narrow road but let someone else take the wheel

I said I trust You and I do believe, I do
Oh Lord, but must You ask me to prove it to You
I said I love You and I know it's true, I really do
Oh Lord, but please don't ask me to prove it to You

Heart in my throat, I grab at the answers
As I choke back the possibilities, I know
I know I've got to let go

Sixpence None the Richer's This Beautiful Mess album. That and PFR's Goldie's Last Day got me through high school. :)

Lyrics
I only want what's mine
That's what I came to find
A little respect that's all
From you

Because one has his natural right
But somehow that doesn't seem right
Not when I look at myself

I was taken on a trip to see
A minuscule menagerie in my soul
Where all the thoughts have escaped the cage
And vamp across the spiritual plain

It's like I said before
I've got the right to ignore
The ruin in my self
If it involves change

And so I lay it down
Put my humanistic crown
On the shelf
I think I've changed my mind

I'd rather seek than find
The sorrow from you
I won't regret

Lyrics

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee

You alone are my strength my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee

You alone are my strength my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee

Psalm 42:1
