In the 1980s, there were a number of school strikes that happened in the DPS (Detroit Public Schools). I always thought they had to do with not enough money and teachers' pay. But very soon afterwards the news put out a few stories about how the DPS administrators had chauffeur driven rides to work.
I really wish I could find those articles.
But after that NOTHING surprised me about what DPS allegedly or factually got caught doing.

I was told by a DPS teacher that wealthier people that went to suburban schools just couldn't understand how the lack of funds impacted a school system.
I knew that person well enough to know they did not want to hear my insight, but I always wondered if those same words would be utter if they remembered those same news reports about fiscal mismanagement.
