Why does it seem like only Muslims are willing to acknowledge this?
Is that ignited desire a good thing? I'd say no because its seldom directed to ones spouse.
Add in intoxication, say a wedding, concert, bar.. anywhere people drink and its a dangerous mixture. We all know what happens in nightclubs. It is the devil's playground and there is not a single nightclub on the planet that doesn't play music.
When I spoke fo the fire of passion I wasn't talking about sexual desire itself, but sexual desire is an aspect of hawa. Think of hawa as an extention of the nafs either you control the nafs or the nafs controls you.
There are 3 states..
Islam, hawa/passion and jahilliya
Just as in hinduism there are 3 gunas, Sattva, rajas and tamas.
some verses on hawa/passion
O ye who believe! Be ye staunch in justice, witnesses for Allah, even though it be against yourselves or (your) parents or (your) kindred, whether (the case be of) a rich man or a poor man, for Allah is nearer unto both (them ye are). So follow not passion lest ye lapse (from truth) and if ye lapse or fall away, then lo! Allah is ever Informed of what ye do.
(سورة النساء, An-Nisaa, Chapter #4, Verse #135)
135. Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo koonoo qawwameena bialqisti shuhadaa lillahi walaw AAala anfusikum awi alwalidayni waalaqrabeena in yakun ghaniyyan aw faqeeran faAllahu awla bihima fala tattabiAAoo alhawa an taAAdiloo wain talwoo aw tuAAridoo fainna Allaha kana bima taAAmaloona khabeeran
) Seest thou such a one as taketh for his god his own passion? Couldst thou be a disposer of affairs for him?
(سورة الفرقان, Al-Furqaan, Chapter #25, Verse #43)
43. Araayta mani ittakhatha ilahahu hawahu afaanta takoonu AAalayhi wakeelan
Again this is necessary to understand that the prophet SAW had already elevated those muslims to the state of islam. So this is coming from that vantage point where that muslim community was high above in the state of islam. In that state they were given laws as a means of protection against them falling into the state of hawa and all that comes from it.
so when you say 'music is haram', we've long fallen from the state of islam and are close to jahilliya already.
reads Romans 1
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God— the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was...

the same states..
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
the bhagvad gita also speaks of these states in the collective sense...just like islam speaks of 'the state of jahilliya' in the collective sense. The idea is that a civilisation in hawa, becomes industrious. they have a lot of earthly goals..like how western civilisation used to be. Then they fall further away until we reach this point today.
it is only Romans 1 that directly associated homosexuality as the key characteristic of jahilliya. but we're long past that.
it's like living in a damp house and tearing out parts of the wall with mold spores. it won't stop the problem.
basically my point is that music is the least of our problems these days. our generation didnt fal by listening to music. the fact we were so drawn to music was because we needed the dopamine rush to feel better. idk about you, but my upbringing was a load of buried emotional pain and stress. when you're a kid, you don't realise how much it'll affect you long term. i had a lot of personal anguish going on despite appearing very happy and loud. i used to like being alone when i was suffering and 30 years on, im the same. any sort of argument, im shutting the world off and just want to be left alone.
wht really happens is people's dopamine receptors are blunted (for lack of a better term) due to all the stress hormones in them from an early age. they seek out dopamine just to find an equilibrium. tell them 'music is haram' and they'll be seeking that dopamine hit elsewhere...
i knew this shit wheni was young though. i used to look at some of the girls on my street with strict dads and think 'this dumb fuck is going to turn that girl into an future slag'
it came true in most cases. those girls ditched as soon as they found that dopamine hit from male attention of the worst kind.
is it fair to say islam did that? id say so. id say that the law/islam did further damage because it was forced on a people who werent equipped for it. furthermore you know pakistan is a product of pseudo islamic revivalism? for centuries and centuries islam was dead and people lived with their cultural backwardness. once islamic revivalism came and you had an entire generation (my fathers generation) pumped full of 7th century islam, it led to that generation being fucked up. my dad was brutally violent but it was nothing compared to what he went through. all because his father was a generation that oversaw the creation of an islamic state and pushed islam hard on theit kids. it was constant pressure to memorise verses, to know every aspect of islamic history, fiqh etc. by the time my dad was 14 he;d knocked out his dad, gotten into fights and put in an old school british borstal suffering racist abuse and fighting his corner. by the end of it all he was militant AF himself and a stressed out individual. my generation had music, tv and gaming to help pass the time.
@Red Sky at Morning like ive said...christianity is about the complete death of the flesh and hence zero passion...so if you're enjoying music, even wholesome music, not to say you're evil or wrong, but it means your carnal nature and the passion that drives it...are very much alive.
Which pretty much means you arent born again and one with Christ in heart and spirit.
John 10
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
That would apply to the jews who believed in and followed Jesus right through tot he Luke 21 instruction to 'flee to the mountains' if they even survived the persecution. they were either martyrs directly or they had become the remnant.
Paul always spoke of the law as if it was DEAD. like 'the old is done'.
Hebrews 8
7 For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. 8 But God found fault with the people and said[b]:
“The days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will make a new covenant
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
9 It will not be like the covenant
I made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they did not remain faithful to my covenant,
and I turned away from them,
declares the Lord.
10 This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
11 No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”[c]
13 By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.
he spoke of the circumcision as a dead symbol because it had no actual effect in people and therefore as a dead symbol, something to be discarded.
