there is no doubt in my mind that the farmers and homesteaders will open the doors for you, with all of your online experience farming and online survival skills. youll be able to grow so much online food! it will be of utmost importance for them to have a guy such as yourself who knows how to cut and paste pictures on forums. maybe you can cut and paste a some seeds and then post a vegetable.

Anyone seen a slurry pit?
It is a swimming pool full of liquid cow shit.

They spray it on the fields so the cows eat their own shit so we can drink their udder juice.

This is the wonderful cycle of nature.

As far as I know, I don't eat veg grown in human excrement..:)
Call me fussy, but even if it was proven to be 100% safe, I still wouldn't do it, yuk, and it hasn't been proven to be safe by a long chalk.

Anyway, do plants really NEED any kind of fertiliser?
Look, I once plonked this grass seed on a piece of damp tissue, kept it moist, and within a week it'd sprouted quite happily without any added nutrients. And in the bottom pic notice how its cleverly sent out thin root filaments across the tissue to soak up the water, bless its little cotton socks..:)

Psst, they prefer Inuit or Inuk these days. "Eskimo" is a racist term that other tribes (mine included) used for them...it just means "raw meat eater".

Also, they're genetically adapted for that diet... something about the way they store fat, I don't remember the specifics.

This is a pretty great thread, thanks OP. I've been looking into a similar idea, and found that linking up shipping containers before burying them is an interesting way to add shelter and storage space. It's cheap and modular, and can easily be done with cheap/rented construction equipment. Just putting that out there.

The nutrients stored in the seed run out eventually, and need to be substituted for what the roots pull in...

Thanks, but I can't help remembering that plant life managed quite well for millions of years without humans to fertilise or tend or manage it in any way..;)

You'll need a lot of land if you plan to eat only wild plants...

Thanks mate but let me modestly hasten to point out that my only real skill lies in the organisational side of things, as I know absolutely zilch about homesteading, farming, cooking, vehicles, first aid, hunting, fishing, guns or women.
So the key to having a good group is to have a balanced range of members who DO know about those things so that we can learn from them.
For example we'll need a gun expert like this guy as our 'Chief of Security' to handle any trespassers-

Thats fine.

You can let crap rot for fertiliser or not.
But please don't throw it in the river.

Burying it is far better.

The Doomsday Hall groups poo will go in the river, end of story, and if anybody don't like it they can get on their bikes and go take their chances in the city with Lisa..:)
