Hi all, first post in the general kpop forum:
Since a lot of you are familiar with the cultural settings is SK, I have a general question.
I stumbled upon produce x 101 when they covered a bts song (bts are the only kpop group I know and follow).
I understood it's a show to form the next kpop supergroup and out of 101 contestants 11 will be chosen. 43 companies send their trainees, and its its 4th season
With everything known about kpop industry, which in my opinion is much more problematic than music industry in the west where everything is more hidden and controlled .. why so many people still chase the dream of becoming an idol? The market is saturated, the life of an idol is harsh with a lot of restrictions and I haven't even talked about the abuse.
So from the aspects of the culture and public opinion, why are there still so many waiting in line? And how do so many parents send out their very young kids to this system? Had me wondering.
I have been following bts and even though they are rich and ultra successful, their life seems sad with their company keeping them caged
thanks!
