Who do you suppose is behind all this, and what's the goal?

I haven't taken it that far in my mind's eye yet. But tearing down something with religious history and rebuilding it to their liking comes to mind. Using this tragedy to divide and split the current tension in France is a possibility as well. I mean, while fires happen, they seldom do in such a major manner which shows a serious lack of preparedness to put one out at an iconic site and that raises a flag to me. So, nothing solid yet, just a hunch there is more to this than meets the eye at this time.

The second one looks more like Chartres Cathedral but the spire fell almost the same way Notre Dame's did.

No but even the best tradesman in World are humans and prone to human error. I don’t care if you’re installing natural gas lines in Fairbanks, Alaska, or restoring a centuries old building things happen. If you’ve worked around machinery you know this the case.

It is always odd that we can see things via the news as it happens these days and the 12th century Notre Dame Cathedral is currently burning down. It is the top tourist destination in France and this is happening before Good Friday and Easter. That said, is there more to this unusual fire and its timing? The cathedral has Joan of Ark roots and is a mainstay of the Christian/Catholic world.

Another thing is France is already on fire in a sense with protests. Macron will be front and center in the coming days and he was scheduled to address the French nation about discourse tonight which was canceled.

Is this a natural fire?

It's not surprising to see relics and pagan imagery in Cathedrals built by Roman Catholics centuries ago. That's one of the many reasons why the Protestant reformation took place.

That's indisputable, we see it happening immediately from the right-wing extremists and Islamophobes. There's already a 1000 different takes on the fire, probably 10's of thousands?

I agree with some of the other posters though, this may not be an accident. I read it was the largest "viewed as it's happening" catastrophe of this sort since 9/11, that's a big deal. Buildings burn down for a reason, just like people wage war and kill for a reason... not everything is chance.
