I thought they believed that the law doesn’t apply to them? I’m under the impression that they believe they couldn’t fulfill the ‘impossibly high’ standards hence Jesus being the ultimate sacrifice.

When I was young we had these books in the school library. You read so many pages then it would ask you what you want to happen. Then you decided where to go. Like go to page 21 for this result or page 40 for that result.
I think they were called Choose your own adventure books. Let me see if I can get an image.

It very much is a cherry-picking religion. In a choose your own path sort of way.
