Yesterday it was confirmed the first case in Argentina (where I live) a 42 year old man who came from Italy. And in Chile (where my brother lives) but i'm sure there are more cases because he wasn't the only person who came from europe...sooo, it's officially in south america now.

32 new cases in Britain. So many that the government is no longer going to give location information.
So, I can only assume that it is everywhere in this small and crowded country.
Apparently the number of infected doubles every 2.4 days?

Ahhh... it was announced the coronavirus is now in Los Angeles about a day or two ago and I happen to be in Los Angeles. Thankfully, it isn't exactly near my area but if it comes, they're closing all LAUSD schools, which means I'd ultimately would have to be home schooled. As much as I despise school, I'd rather go than be in danger of possibly getting the virus...

My family has already stocked up some cans of soup since it lasts years, we have bundles of water, and we have masks. Honestly, simply washing your hands and making sure not to touch your face. To me, that just doesn't mean anything...you gotta do more than that..

Actually, that is enough to significantly prevent the spread of this disease. As far as I have seen, there is nothing to suggest that the Coronavirus is going to isolated as an airborne precaution. Currently, it is still a standard droplet precaution, which means that washing your hands and not touching your face is enough to prevent the disease from spreading.

If it were airborne, it would be different. For comparison, tuberculosis is airborne, but it has been contained for the most part. So many people don't realize the difference between how something like tuberculosis spreads versus the flu. They can seem the same, but they are incredibly different. With tuberculosis, there is nothing to protect you from breathing the same air as someone next to you.

With the flu, you could stand next to someone with the flu. They could even sneeze on your shirt and as long as those particles don't enter your bloodstream, you should be fine. SARS was airborne also by comparison, and so if this were similar to SARS, there would be much more reason to panic as well.

Although, it also never hurts to be prepared, but with the flu, even the Coronavirus. There is a lot more you can do to protect yourself without having to contact your local health department, and for the majority of people, washing your hands and not touching your face will be enough.

I don’t trust the statistics released by China, for all the obvious reasons. It seems like Italy is reporting a much higher death rate now than previously thought, 100/ 3000 identified cases meaning 3,4%. This virus is much deadlier than influenza. We still have to wait and see the true mortality rate, some chinese doctors are saying 5% which is very concerning from a public health perspective. The mortality in those over 80 is somewhere around 20%.

I'm surprised it took this long to hit Los Angeles. Only next week will tell how dense in the city it is....and the following weeks after that will be awful because of the long incubation period.
All the nearby Sam's Clubs and Costcos are out of water bottles (except the pricier ones, like Smart Waters, but people were eyeing them once the Kirkland brand ran out).
We personally got extra toilet paper and paper towels on our end.
Partially because we ran out recently and it sucked, partially because the last thing we want to do is go back in two weeks and not find any toilet paper.
I'm also slightly afraid of places like Disneyland.
Even if kids aren't dying from it (it seems, good for them), they sneezed their boogers onto everything. It's gross.

Absolutely. I was reading today that, in Hong Kong, all cases of similarly transmitted viruses are down, simply because of the basic precautions that are being taken against the coronavirus.

The scariest thing about it is that here in the good ol USA is that some people who are infected are still going to go to work because we won't have any compensation for lost wages. Also the fact that some people who get infected are going to refuse to seek medical care because they can't afford it. It's so f---ed up that the Trump admin cares more about $$$ and the stock market than public health.

I’m thinking it’s airborne despite what CDC and WHO say. That Diamond Princess spread like wildfire and I doubt droplet infection alone would do that.
Also the fact they’re keeping folks that have it in negative pressure rooms like in Omaha isn’t very comforting...
