Apparently 41% of the Covid-19 deaths in Ohio are from nursing homes.

So did the shutdown orders not apply to nursing homes? Because it seems like these spots are hotbeds for the disease. These old folks should have been removed and put in a more isolated space.

I think that shows how many elderly people are actually in Nursing Homes, due to people not having time to care for them. Which is kinda sad.

The average cost of living in a nursing home is like 6k a month.

For 6 grand a month one would expect some level of safety from disease. Either way, the fact that healthy people are told to self-quarantine while the governments let old folks die is something we should pay attention to.

Staff still has to go in and out. I said from the start that staff in nursing homes and other residential type facilities should have been made to stay on site. The PPE shortages we had meant that hospitals got priority and nursing homes/residential were next on the list.

People have to go into the nursing homes and people brought it in. It has a devastating affect once there because the mortality rate of this thing goes up with every decade of age. They should have started taking precautions much sooner and made sure staff followed strict sanitation protocols.
I agree that more precautions should have been taken.

Everyone has to go somewhere though. We all have to go to the store, for example, then bring stuff home. Or we can have food delivered, but again, someone is bringing something to us. What I am describing is the logical problem with the stay at home orders. It is impossible to achieve since very few people have self-sustaining lifestyles.

We are not mitigating anything if we don't consistently adhere to the intended objective, of actually staying home.

You would think but no. My grandpa spent the last year and half of his life in a home and burned through his life’s work like it never mattered only for the damn place to have ants in his room.

That’s the idea of the quarantine at least,is so that healthy people won’t spread it to them.

Either way most places will be attempting to reopen soon, so enjoy the death lottery that capitalism has forced us into.
The story about your grandpa is disheartening and confirms the thought I had when starting to look at this issue. Plus I've seen a lot of cases on that show "American Greed" where people make entire careers preying on old folks.

I understand the ideas behind self-quarantine. It goes back to what I said in my previous reply. If we can't actually get everyone to stay home, at best we are just delaying the inevitable. Maybe I'm just the type that would rather speed things along.

The idea of people dying from a preventable disease sucks. I get it, but we should not engage in a pointless struggle with ourselves over it. We need to move on and do what we can do, not worry about trying to save everyone. Furthermore, life presents it's own death lottery whether there is capitalism or not.

Store workers become enforcers of social distancing rules

Don’t they know that the virus is specifically after them...they should be better informed.
Brooklyn DA reveals 35 of 40 people detained for not social distancing since mid-March were black - compared to just four Hispanic and one white arrest

Is it just black athletes...or all athletes?
Athletes could be particularly vulnerable to serious COVID-19 symptoms, says union

That’s kinda fatalist bro. I don’t think there’s a way to speed this along without a whole shit load of preventable deaths coming with it. And the economy will definitely not rebound after that kinda hit to the work force. This isn’t about keeping us safe, it’s about doing just enough to protect their long term interests.

Did anyone see that the military will not be accepting recruits that have had the corona virus?

@Lisa must have missed it. Would you like an award?

@Bertoxxulous to me that says that they are expecting the long term consequences of this to be bad enough to not want those people in the military. Which scares me. Because they always know something we don’t.

2 comments from the article..not only is it hot there at 90+ but there’s a fair amount of humidity that goes along with it...I can’t even imagine wearing a fask mask in all that!

Who in the world wants to walk around in 90+ heat and humanity with a face mask on?
