The question is invalid to my post. No one is talking about hospitals on a 'normal' day [and we all know what they look like
]. The comparison is specific to the
current MSM hype/hysteria vs. what 'real people' are seeing out on the streets. That's what #FilmYourHospital and #filmyourhospitals is all about.
It is a completely valid question considering that a hospital on an average day looks about as busy from the outside as an average shopping mall. So why don't they look like this anymore in these videos and why don't the people filming them know this for comparison? Because most of these people don't know what an average hospital looks like on a regular day.
Hospitals in most locations were full. Many locations are upgrading in some capacity to increase in size and provide private rooms for patients. People seem to like to think of a hospital as only being slightly different than a stay at a Marriott sometimes.
How to decrease wait times in ER's because they have been so full across the country, has been a normal and frequent discussion from around the time that they passed a law saying that an emergency could not turn away a patient for not having insurance.
So the concern in MSM that is going to reflect the truth of the situation is that if this situation creates a surge, our hospital system that was completely full, might not be able to address this increase.
The sociology of the reality of this situation after around of month of shelter in place orders in many places is that many people seem to have responded to this situation by avoiding the hospital unless they have symptoms. So instead of needing to increase capacity, hospital units that were formerly used for other patient types, are being used for the patient who has acute symptoms and can't be sent home to self-quarantine after their test is done.
The fact that this result was not accurately predicted in the media does not change the fact that many hospitals from the inside and outside, are drastically different in terms of population size and function right now. Therefore, it really doesn't sound to me like you have any idea what a hospital looked like before this happened because otherwise, you would see how much of a change has taken place. It truly seems like you think this is the way the hospital must have looked already and so there has been no visible change and so obviously the media is completely exaggerating something.
I mean people didn't stop having cancer and heart attacks, but for some reason, they are not coming to the ER for this as frequently. This is probably going to create some fluctuations in our statistics as well because large population groups that are diagnosed with other diseases have somehow disappeared from view. So the empty hospital that you see in these videos is not what a hospital looked like a couple of months ago. We were knee-deep in flu season and there were hours-long wait times in many ER's that have vanished.
I think people just didn't expect that the average patient would choose to avoid pursuing hospital services during this time and that is why the expectation was to increase capacity has not been necessary. I don't doubt even a little bit that these videos are showing something that is really happening in other locations because that is what I see where I am.
There was a social response that created this reality in a country that had not yet experienced the same manifestations of the symptoms of this new contagious disease.
