both of the main characters go inside a door that has what they think will fulfill their dreams and being in there feels like a dream came true for them, and for jack's case, he became santa which in theory, santa is actually satan if you switch some of the letters, he became a whole new person and he thinks that being santa will solve his boredom of being stuck in halloween but it actually putted him in danger, same with caroline. yeah, i think the whole movie is just jack being reckless and going through programming, its so sad for me cause nightmare before christmas is my fav movie of all time.It's about mixing halloween and christmas,both pagan festivals by the way.
