He sang about bullying, racism, self-improvement, environment, world peace, domestic violence etc. Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Jim Morrison we used to have singers who would sing about things other than sex and drugs and a lot of songs used to have good messages. Why can't artists now sing such songs? The simple answer is there is no creativity or passion left in modern singers. Everyone wants to make easy money and capitalism has consumed whatever creativity artists used to have.
