Yea I was having a conversation with a friend and suggested that this probably wasn’t the first time Yoongi had done it, but rather the first time he didn’t get away with it. I think it would be smart on his part to view getting caught as a good thing- potentially saving his life and those of others.

It is very inexcusable and indefensible that he drove drunk - which to his credit he fully admitted to and apologized for. And he also had an alcohol level high enough not just to have his license suspended, but revoked. He was very much in the wrong and is fortunate that he didn’t injure himself or others. Yoongi made a serious mistake, but it is still forgivable. It may take a while to repair his reputation, but if he makes good on his apology and doesn’t repeat the offense, he could redeem himself.
There's new info now, that he apparently lied about how many drinks he had, and the breath test basically proves that: https://www.koreaboo.com/news/netizen-speculation-lies-bts-suga-drunk-driving-apology/

So yeah, my disappointment was fading but now I'm even more irritated at him.

Yea I had read that he lied as well- which is not admirable. I’m not any more irritated at him though. In the end, he accepted full responsibility for his wrong without excuses. A lot of celebrity apologies are non- apologies that place the blame and responsibility elsewhere.

I think he apologize because he got caught
Perhaps. But at least he offered a real apology by taking full ownership and responsibility for being careless and wrong. This is not common in celebrity culture even when they get caught. They usually point the blame elsewhere and make excuses.

Netizens call out inconsistencies in Suga's apology about the circumstances of his drunken "kickboard" accident

[+1,100] He wrote such a long-winded letter trying to downplay this as much as possible by saying it was just a kickboard, he only rode it for 500m, he wore a helmet, he fell in front of his home, no one else was hurt... and yet he was drunk to the point where his license is at risk of being canceled while operating something that's basically a motorcycle, going over 10 lane roads back and forth. Can you imagine if he had impacted with any of the cars around him? It could've caused an even bigger multiple-car accident.

[+328] I truly don't understand why he would lie about something that he knew CCTV would've caught and the truth would've gotten out anyway. Hybe even media played the lies...

[+248] Drunk driving cannot be shielded ever...

I was getting ready to share about the inconsistencies in response to your post before this one, but you beat me to it!

Dude did not, I repeat, DID NOT fall outside his house. He even says in his music that he lives at Hannam Hill, and the cop spotted him at Nine One Villa (I think Nine One is where Jin resides?). Anyway, point is he wasn't on his way home. He might not have had any idea where he was and where he was going.

The way the label and YG both tried to lie, and sweep it under the rug, really upsets me.

So many people acting like it wasn't dangerous cause it was an electric scooter. You can run red lights, hit another vehicle, turn the wrong way down a one way street, hit a pedestrian, crash into stationary objects, cause a pile-up like you said, in any vehicle that's on the road. It doesn't matter how far he went, what matters is that he did it. He broke the law and he got rightfully punished for it.

Oh and I love the CCTV footage. It's golden.

Like, I shared my thoughts about the JJ issue a long time ago and I could forgive him for it. But this? No. This is bad. This is where I draw the line.

yes, Hybe this time was totally exposed for lying, and Sugar too.
also Dispatch posted his apology trying to make him look goood, basically confirms what we already knew (dispatch works for Hybe)

like i said before JK was in a similar scandal but he was protected
also international fans are making a million excuses for him.....but this was expected

Well yeah in light of this information, it looks like he lied, which is inexcusable. That to me looks like an electronic bike though and not a scooter. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t a kickboard basically synonymous with a scooter?

It’s hard to see exactly who that is on that bike (?) though. Maybe in time, even more incriminating footage will emerge.

And yes, it is seeming suspicious or planted or something.

I doubt it. I think they happened to be patrolling like reports say, and he happened to break the law, and he got caught. Same thing would've happened to anyone who did what he did.
Perhaps not. It may have been that he was called in by a concerned citizen when he was observed driving wrecklessly on that bike. And the cops maybe followed him. I really don’t know at this point. Maybe I will just give a little more time for more information to come out to form a more solid and informed opinion, lol.

Yeah, that's how they control the news on BT5 and any other group that Hive want to protect. It's not that different from how the SK gov't will control the news to take attention off of any political issues going on.

It's gross to me that they are defending him. Just stop it. He effed around, he found out, he's *mostly* owning it, he will pay for it, and that's that.

This is some info about how they handle DUI's in SK: https://expatguidekorea.com/article/drunk-driving-in-korea-consequences-sobriety-test-procedures-and-legal-penalties-explained.html
