The law is different in The Quran as it is a new revelation for mankind. So of course some differences will be there. The Quran takes a balanced approach. We are taught to forgive and have mercy on others just as God forgives and has mercy on us:This is a good question.
Jesus directly said to turn the other cheek.
Matthew 5
38Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also
I haven't read that part of the Quran yet, but a Muslim individual told me that is not what the Quran teaches. That Islam teaches eye for an eye, still.
Perhaps a Muslim person could clarify this: does the Quran teach to turn the other cheek, or eye for an eye?
I found this article
Turning the Other Cheek - Between Jesus and Muhammad | About Islam
The perception of Jesus (peace be upon him) as a passive individual who would have never encouraged violence in inaccurate even according to Christian...aboutislam.net
It claims Islam teaches similar to Christianity. However...
That is not what Jesus said
Matthew 5
40And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. 41And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. 42Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
43Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
[41:34] Not equal is the good response and the bad response. You shall resort to the nicest possible response. Thus, the one who used to be your enemy, may become your best friend
[8:61] If they resort to peace, so shall you, and put your trust in GOD. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient.
However, we are not stupid and ridiculous. You cannot expect someone to try and rob you and then you give them your coat and belongings. Unless of course your life is danger and they have a weapon. You fight and defend yourself. That’s literally what everyone does so I don’t know you’re even referring to turning the other cheek as I don’t see anyone doing that in a threatening situation.
[42:41] Certainly, those who stand up for their rights, when injustice befalls them, are not committing any error.
[42:42] The wrong ones are those who treat the people unjustly, and resort to aggression without provocation. These have incurred a painful retribution.
[42:43] Resorting to patience and forgiveness reflects a true strength of character.
We are always encouraged to forgive and leave others if they’ve wronged us but are allowed to defend ourselves.
