Who is Michael the Archangel?

In Daniel 10, Daniel is in a fierce spiritual battle when finally,

"Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me" (Daniel 10:13).

In Daniel’s time of need did God send someone else to rescue Daniel, or did He demonstrate His love by rescuing Daniel Himself?

It’s easy for some to conclude, on surface reading, that Michael is just another angel. But as I've posted above and all through out this thread, Michael is actually the Son of God, who became incarnate as “Jesus,” coming to our rescue.

Archangel is a compound of two Greek words: “arche” which means beginning or commencement, and “aggelos” which means angel or messenger. The word arche is also closely related to the word “archo,” which means “to be first” or to “reign (rule) over.” Thus the “Archangel” is the One who began (created) the angels and reigns over them. That would be none other than Christ.

Bible scholars are in general agreement that an “archangel” is over the created angels. But not all agree that the Archangel is the Creator Himself.

Let’s look at a similar passage in which Christ is called the “beginning” of the creation of God:

“And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God” (Revelation 3:14).

In this text “arche” is translated as “beginning.” Is it not reasonable to conclude that since to all the other churches, the One speaking is Christ Himself, this is clearly another description of Christ. Thus, it appears that in biblical usage, the “arch-creation” or “beginning of creation” means the Creator Himself.

Thus from the word usage, we could conclude that the “archangel” is also the Creator of the angels and not one of the created angels.

The name Michael means “One like God” or “There is no one else like God.” If Michael were only a created angel, then Lucifer’s aspiration to be “like God” could not be blasphemous and a reason for his expulsion from heaven (Isaiah 14:14).

In Revelation 19:10 John starts to worship an angel and the angel tells him not to. Obviously this was a created angel who realized there was no way he, a created being could be equal with God. However, in Joshua 5, Joshua meets an Angel who accepts his worship, demonstrating that this was not a created angel, but the Angel who led Israel in the wilderness, referred to in Exodus 23:20-21:

"Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him."

Notice that the implication that this Angel can forgive transgression. Who but God Himself can forgive transgression? The Jews knew this and accused Christ of blasphemy when He forgave sin (Matthew 9:2-6).

So how do we know in the Bible that Michael is the Son of God, now known as Jesus?

Daniel called Michael a chief prince. Who is our chief prince?

"For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given….. And His name will be called…. Prince of Peace"
(Isaiah 9:6).

Who did Jude 1:9 say raises the dead?

"Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee"
(Jude 1:9).

When Jesus comes, who raises the dead?

"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first"
(1 Thessalonians 4:16).

It is the Lord Himself who has the voice of the archangel. The same voice that Jesus said would raise the dead.

"Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live"
(John 5:25).

There are not two different persons who raise the dead. No created angel can raise the dead. Only Christ can do that.

While Michael rescued Daniel during his time of need, who will rescue us during our time of trouble?

“And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation [even] to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake…”
(Daniel 12:1-2).

Michael, the Son of God Himself will come to our rescue! How assuring to know that God loves us too much to let someone else save and rescue us! He rescues us Himself! Yes God also send angels both terrestrial and celestial to help us in our time of needs, but He also loves us so much that He will finally come rescue all His people Himself!

Daniel 10 gives me comfort that, in my time of need, when I feel I am being overcome by Satan, I can cry out God, “Please send Michael!” And Michael, the Only one “like Unto God,” Yes God Himself will rescue me!

Are you in the middle of a spiritual warfare now, and feel like you are losing the battle? Don’t wait. Call for Michael, the Son of God Himself, now!

Good post... but Jesus is called the Son of God because God begot Him... that is provided the Y chromosome to His biological body.

We also know from the bible that angels are called sons of God... but is the archangel Michael a created angel and so a son of God ?

There is reason to believe from the bible that Michael is not a created angel... and so cannot be a son of God but part and parcel of the Godhead.

As you know Jesus has many titles and roles in the Bible and one of them is Michael the Archangel and another is the Son of God. He is the same Person who works to save us all in His different roles.

Angels or sons of God were created by God.

So if Michael the archangel is a son of God then he was created by God.

You see the problem of calling Michael a son of God ?

Angels or sons of God were created by God.
Except Michael the Archangel and the Son of God who are one and the same person. Jesus Christ.

So if Michael the archangel is a son of God then he was created by God.
Unless Michael is Jesus which He is then no, He is not created as the Bible tells us He is God.

I've explained using scripture why Michael cannot be a created angel in detail.

You see the problem of calling Michael a son of God ?
There is no problem if you understand that Michael is Jesus who is also the Son of God.

I posted on this very thread that Jesus appeared as an angel in the Old Testament. The terms used are :

"the angel of the Lord" (Exodus 3:2) and "the angel of God" (Exodus 14:19). Jesus is also called the "angel of presence" (Isaiah 63:9), "the messenger of the covenant" (Malachi 3:1), "mine angel" (Exodus 23:23) and "His angel" (Daniel 3:28). All these passages refer to the angel as Lord or God too. This God is Jesus Christ and not a created angel.

Is God's name something secret or wonderful ?

Maybe the angel of the LORD whom at least Manoah and his wife thought was God... predicted the future prophecy of Isaiah ?

Isaiah 9 6For unto us a child is born,

unto us a son is given,

and the government will be upon His shoulders.

And He will be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7Of the increase of His government and peace

there will be no end.

He will reign on the throne of David

and over his kingdom,

to establish and sustain it

with justice and righteousness

from that time and forevermore.
Judges 13 NKJV

17 Then Manoah said to the Angel of the Lord, “What is Your name, that when Your words come to pass we may honor You?”

18 And the Angel of the Lord said to him, (O)“Why do you ask My name, seeing it is wonderful?”

Here is another name for the Son of God in the Old Testament.

"The "Angel " Who Appeared to Jacob.—This Angel (Hosea 12:4) appeared to Jacob in the form of a man (Genesis 32:24). The Angel (man) blessed Jacob (verse 29), and Jacob said, "I have seen God face to face" (verse 30). Worship of angels is not permitted (Colossians 2:18; Revelation 19:10; 22:8, 9). This is an important difference between Christ and angels.

He is also called "a child," "a son" (Isaiah 9:6). And this "son" is none other than "The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace" (verse 6).

Yes so what i'm trying to say... the only reason Jesus is called the only begotten Son of God is because God provided the Y chromosome for His biological body.

Where in the Bible does it say that? Remember Jesus existed before He came into this world because He is God. He created this world. That is why He appeared as the Angel in the Old Testament to people and is the archangel. In order to save us, He came as a baby and lived in this world for 331/2 years and in our stead paid the penalty for our sins.

John 3 16For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

The biological body of Jesus was conceived without a human father. And that's why Jesus is called the only begotten Son of God because God is the Father of the biological body of Jesus. Before that He was the Word of God in Heaven... who when born on earth became the Son of God.

John 3:16-17 does not say nor imply that, "the only reason Jesus is called the only begotten Son of God is because God provided the Y chromosome for His biological body."

The conception of Jesus is a mystery. I think its best to leave it at that and not add words to the Bible that aren't there.

No the only reason Jesus is the Son of God... is because God is the Father of the biological body of Jesus.

Before the biological body of Jesus was born on earth... He was the Logos of God in Heaven.

Yes God is the Father of Jesus but beyond that you do not know the mystery of His conception nor does the Bible tell us in specific details does it?

Jesus was and always will be God for all eternity. He never stopped being God even when He was here on earth. Its just He did not use that part of Him.

Yes so the reason there is no mention of the name Jesus in the OT... is because the Logos who is God was given that name when His biological body was conceived in the womb of Mary.

The conception and birth of Jesus is a miracle. Its something we can't explain. The Messiah, Son of God, Son of man etc are actually mentioned in the Old Testament. So I will disagree with you on that.

Btw did you know that the Holy Spirit calls God the Father, Father too?

Galatians 4:6, "And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”

The name Jesus is not specifically mentioned in the OT because that name was given 2000 years ago when the Logos of God became the Son of God.

Yes and did you know also Jesus is called Father ?

The name Of Jesus means, "to deliver or save" doesn't it?

Yes and did you know also Jesus is called the Father ?

I did. That means the Holy Spirit is God' the Father's Son and we are Jesus' sons or children too.
