The John 4 part is also a red herring, but this time in the form of the fact that Samaritans are closely ethnically related to Jews and Samaritans exclusively follow the Torah (and reject the rest of the OT - making them infamous in Jewish and Christian sources). John 8 is not over race issues, it's over behavior issues being seen by Jesus as bad in the legacy of Abraham.
