Disadvantage in Vietnam is we didn’t know the terrain and we didn’t know the enemy. They have decades of psychological intel on the American populace and google satellite imaging maps and live views that make the terrain 100% knowable.
Vietnam has been around awhile, so I think we did know the terrain. And we should have known tanks and choppers don't work too good in the jungle.

Of course, the scenario we are talking about would be a lot different. And as far as I know Googles satellites can't see through walls. Or the ground.

Would fighting like I describe be easy? No it won't. I'm just saying an American insurgency would be just as effective as anywhere else.

Maybe. Both groups would be on their own terrain. So neither would have an advantage I guess.. but the sheer disparity in weaponry available to either side is concerning to me. Don’t get me wrong if it comes to that I’m going to stand my own damn ground. I have contingency plans in place to do so for as long as I possibly can.. but let’s be honest, most Americans cry about being called mean names. I don’t think the vast majority of the American population is cut out for insurrection. We have militia men whining they can’t get a hair cut for chrissakes. Buck up and shave the damn thing. Idk. I have no faith in the American people at this point in my life.

Lol true. Most of these Nancy's wouldn't last long in a real war.

As far as weaponry goes, I think we could get our hands on some anti tank or aircraft guns. We may even be able to steal a submarine or two.

I've seen what a 50 caliber does to a tank track (absolutely nothing). So yeah the weaponry will be a problem

Guerilla warfare beat us in Vietnam though. We had all the tech and got beat by dudes with AK-47s

The point is to wear the opponent down through attrition. Basically don't engage except to harass, and stay mobile so we don't get bombed.
Tech is nowhere advanced as it is today.
I’m willing to bet our gov has pinpointed and taken out some people of interest.

The people who would be willing to fight against a government, I admire the courage, but we’d get whooped bad.

Doesn’t mean I won’t go down fighting, but I’ll admit, I stand very little chance at best

I've said this before and I think it needs repeating.

North Vietnamese or Afghanis live much, much harder lives than average Americans, not only that but their countries were invaded and they all likely had family or friends killed.

You cannot compare their willingness to fight and die to that of a (relatively speaking) highly pampered individual. These are 2 entirely different scenarios.

The willingness to fight and die is something Americans do not have.

Only very small percentages of people (ideologically driven radicals) would take up arms against the government, unless of course the gov started doing something very drastic (like mass executions on the street) and even then I still say highly unlikely.

Forgot to mention that Vietnam had been fighting a decade long war of independence against the French before they took on the US, who basically came to spoil their newly won independence.

Comparing this situation to today's Americans "rising up" against the government is nothing alike.

You raised some good points.

I mostly agree, but I think the possibility of the average citizen being pushed into having to fight isn't so far fetched. Like the government doesn't need to do mass executions in the street. As soon as there is a really big food shortage, that's when the hardships will start.

It’s a well established fact that the most significant issue in the Vietnam war, was the terrain.
The jungle was a very hostile environment in itself and the Viet Cong had a network of tunnels with hidden a variety of different facilities in them, that the US army didn’t know about.

All this talk about the Viet Cong, tunnels and formidable terrain reminded me of this...something i'd completely forgotten about.
Attention, city dwellers! We're interested in identifying university-owned or commercially managed underground urban tunnels & facilities able to host research & experimentation. https://t.co/tHZ1Tqy5nV

It's short notice... We're asking for responses by Aug. 30 at 5:00 PM ET. pic.twitter.com/TSWO07bJam

The ideal space would be a human-made underground environment spanning several city blocks w/ complex layout & multiple stories, including atriums, tunnels & stairwells. Spaces
that are currently closed off from pedestrians or can be temporarily used for testing are of
interest. pic.twitter.com/GkWKm2w2p9

So, the obvious question to ask here is; if the PTB already have a headstart, what are the future militia leaders doing about it?
I try to keep up with what goes on around the world but to the best of my recollection, i don't see other governments around the world actively anticipating a showdown with their subjects. Maybe they don't do that because they are assured of an upper hand?
If the US population never owned guns, would the US gov still engage in these simulated exercises? If yes, then there must be something about the american spirit that the civilians are underestimating but that the gov't is taking very seriously. Kiwis (New Zealand) own guns but their gov't isn't so obsessed with a coming showdown as the American gov't is.

Yes, but that fact remains whether google maps existed or not. Plus it's not like a spy plane doesn't serve the exact same function as a satellite.

We have a shit ton of mountain woods and trails out here, an atv lovers paradise. But half of it is either federal land or abuts federal land. I’m not sure there’s even an inch of terrain in this country they don’t have mapped out completely..

Of course I don’t think it will start by heading to the woods guerilla warfare style. I think it’s going to start by turning on our own neighbors. Then they roll in and most will be so traumatized by their fellow citizens that instead of fighting back they will welcome them.

New Mexico's governor signed a red flag gun measure into law and urged sheriffs to enforce it or resign

The laws have faced heavy backlash -- from both gun rights activists and law enforcement officials who say the measures violate residents' Second Amendment rights and don't follow due process.
In a public letter over the weekend, the head of the New Mexico Sheriffs' Association, Tony Mace, wrote that red flag laws don't allow gun owners to defend themselves against an initial confiscation order.
