Sex work should be decriminalized

Trying to compare prostitution with r*pe is offensive to actual victims of r*pe imo. There is no such thing as consenting to r*pe because by definition r*pe is the violation of consent.

The person who thinks he can buy his way into a body is immoral because buying someone reduces them to an object. Most women who sell sex have some type of past trauma. I can assure you that pretty much no one actually wants to have sex with strangers for money. That concept in itself is immoral.
You can't tell a grown ass adult what they should or shouldn't be doing with their body. It's their life, it's their choice, period.
And selling sex isn't just prostitution. Instagram models, cam girls, strippers are essentially all selling sex even when they're not sleeping with strangers.

uhh if you only agree to having sex with someone in exchange for something else you're literally not consenting to the sex. You're consenting to getting the thing in return. Consent cannot be bought. Humans are not stock.
Except the client is not buying the sex worker, he's only buying a service in exchange for money. If he thinks he owns someone else beacuse he pays for their service then the entitlement is the problem. The sense of ownership that men have towards women is the reason why r*pe is so prevalent.

I'm not telling anyone what they should or should'nt do with their bodies. I'm NOT criticising the people who sell themselves. I'm criticising the people who BUY them. I'm not arguing that sex workers should be criminalised, their actions are not criminal or immoral or bad. They are slaves to a capitalist, patriarchal racist system, and they're just trying to survive. I don't condone people who try to silence their voices or take their basic human rights away from them. The thing is, sex work serves mainly men. It was made by men, for men.
'Sex work' includes cam stuff, porn, stripping and all of that. All of this is enabled by the patriarchy. Have you read any of the stuff I've written already? 'Sex work' is modern day slavery. Women are exploited because of their sex. Please just do your research on this topic, I truly don't have the energy to argue. Don't fall for the lib-fem bs. Sex work is exploitation.

How is prostitution not r*pe tho? How am I belittling "real" victims of r*pe? Even if a prostitute doesn't view the paid sex act as r*pe, she/he has MOST definitely been raped at some point in her/his life by a sex buyer, or someone else.
Who are you to define what a real victim of r*pe is? r*pe is when someone has sex with you against your will. If you ONLY agree to sex for money, that is r*pe. Would the seller still want to have sex if you took money out of the equation? If a SW doesn't get paid after a sex act, is it still consensual? Sex shouldn't be agreed to. You should want to have sex, truly desire the person you have sex with. It should be based on mutual love and respect. Even if it's a one night stand. Paying someone to have sex with you is coercion, manipulation, and incredibly disrespectful. It is the complete opposite of what sex should be.

..Governments should fully decriminalize sex work..
Yeah even Jesus has got the girls backs, he said to the snooty priests-
"The tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of god ahead of you" (Matt 21:31)

And he went around rescuing naughty girls from stone-throwing mobs-

(PS- I tried going with a few prossies in my younger days but hated it because it was so cold and loveless so I gave it up)

yes, i agree that tinder is exploitation of women. Hookup culture only serves men.
Girl (don't know your sex but i assume ur a girl) you ought to educate yourself on female matters. I don't understand how the fuck you can defend prostitution. Made BY men FOR men. NOT feminist. Does NOT defend women, does not protect women, does not do anything good for women in GENERAL. It doesn't matter that a white (or any other race for that matter) middle class girl decides to sell nudes and be a cam girl and occasionally fuck for money. She has the privilege to protect herself. A MAJORITY of women in the sex industry do not have that privilege.
I mean can't you hear it from the name? Sex INDUSTRY. Capitalising bodies, commodifying sex. And don't you dare come with the argument that it's physical labour. It is not comparable to other jobs that include physical activity.

I think it's better to hear directly from sex workers; if someone is genuinely concerned about their safety they should take what they say into consideration.

"I don't understand a feminist who says they're pro women movement and pro women having agency. But then when it comes to sex work they're completely against it. When in fact sex work can give women a lot of agency.

Can anyone be feminist under a patriarcal system?...You kind of have to work with what you got. Being a sex worker is also a big f*ck you to the patriarchy: you are choosing your hours of work, you're choosing your rate of pay. That gives you agency, which is essentially what patriarchy is against."

"Essentially what sex workers want is decriminilization, which is the model they have in New Zealand and it's made sex workers a lot safer. Sex workers have been able to take brothel owners who abuse their power to court and have actually won cases against that. As a sex worker if you've been raped or assaulted you can go to the police and report it.

As it stand now within the Nordic model or any model really you can't report r*pe to the police if you're a sex worker, because you get met with stigma and a lot of the time you get arrested.

If there were less stigma and more support then sex work would be a lot safer. "

ah yes, here comes the sex positivity... I truly would assume someone who hangs out on VC would understand how the feminist movement has been hijacked by the elite to further serve male/ transhumanist interests etc. but no. apparently not.

So if I get this right, sucking some random dude's dick because he payed for it is a big fuck you to the patriarchy? Doing exactly what the patriarchy wants you to do is a big fuck you to the patriarchy? Because you get paid? And "choose" your own working hours? hehe makes perfect sense.

If you want stories from sex workers how about you listen to those who can't go on vice and talk openly about it without risking their lives.

Quit supporting the educational industrial complex. On the job training should suffice. :p

If they made sex work legal, could they refuse someone unemployment benefit if they refuse to take a sex work job?

Ooh, good question.
I think it came up once in this country.
Someone unemployed was told they couldn't get unemployment benefits because the job centre had either phone sex or stripper jobs on the board.

It was a long time ago, and if I remember right, no one was made to do those jobs.
However a change in the law regarding the legitimacy of all sex work could change that.

Maybe use under/over qualified as an excuse?

lol why so feisty?
For someone who can't even bother to read the thread you sure do have a lot of venom to spit regarding this topic.
What were you saying earlier? You don't look down on sex workers? Well you sure do, and it's showing.

I personally am for the protection of sex workers, even if everything the woman says in the vice video said doesn't align with my personal beliefs.

And feminism isn't monolithic, there are many different schools of feminism. Two feminists may have totally different opinions on this topic. Does that mean one is better than the other? No, their views differ simply because they may come from dfferent backgrounds, have a different race or different life experiences. I always say I dont identify with mainstream feminism as it is mostly for white middle-class women. I'm well aware that there are sex workes who don't share the same privilege as a white middle-class sex worker who goes into the industry because she doesn't want to work at a minimum wage job, is bored with her life and wants to have new sexual experiences and get paid for it. Yet it still doesn't mean we should belittle the very real risks (r*pe, assault) that they're encountering while being in that industry.

I visited poor countries where girls as young as 12 would go out with grown men and have sex with them - foreigners, in exchange for money because they couldn't go to school and lived in miserable conditions. My heart breaks for these girls, it really does, but who's gonna find a better job for them??...You? Obviously not, but you're here bitching about sex workers wanting to be protected and respected.

Hmm... they are currently refusing unemployment benefits to sex workers in the US even where it’s legal.

Marriage also serves mostly men, after all it's also a patriarcal institution. I've seen far too many women with an uninvolved husband who expects them to take on all the housework, and expects to have his dinner ready and sex on a buffet when he goes home. Doesn't care if his wife is tired or doesn't want to have sex, because if she files a complaint the judge will say sex is her marital duty.
