Location of hell

Some Christians are taught that hell is a place located deep within the earth where the wicked burn forever, beginning the moment they die. Others teach that hell is located somewhere in the far reaches of the universe. Which one is true?

This is another area where the Bible leaves nothing to doubt.

Revelation chapter 20 says that a thousand years after the saints are resurrected, the wicked will be released from their graves. “They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them” (Revelation 20:9).

According to the Bible, the lost are then burned “on the breadth of the earth.”

One of the great promises of the Bible to His people on the earth is that we can “look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13).

Just as God cleansed the earth in the days of Noah, He will cleanse the earth again at the end of the world, this time with fire. As in Noah’s day, sinners will again receive their recompense, and once more it will happen “on the breadth of the earth.”

God’s plan is to recreate this sin-marred earth and return it to its original Edenic splendour. The earth will be transformed into what the Bible calls a “lake of fire” (Revelation 20:10). Every last vestige of sin will be burned up, and the curse will be obliterated.

Revelation chapter 20 says that a thousand years after the saints are resurrected, the wicked will be released from their graves.
Revelation 20 doesn't say the wicked will be released from their graves. It says that Satan deceives the nations which are living on the earth and gathers them to battle. There is nothing about anyone being released from their graves anywhere in the passage.

And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

Your article needs to add to Revelation 20 to make their interpretation of the rest of the Bible make sense, doesn't it? If Satan really gathered people from the earth at the end of Jesus Christ's 1000-year reign, as the Bible plainly says, it would mean that his reign is meant to be a literal one, and that the earth will be populated during that time.

Guess I should have read his whole post....you are right, the Bible doesn’t say the wicked are released from their graves.

@phipps The people that go to war against God with satan are the people that lived in the millennium. Then when satan was let out at the end of the millennium, he deceived the nations again and they surrounded the camp of the saints and God wipes them out with fire.

The whole time during the millennium, the dead are still dead and are only brought up after the God deals with the people gathered against Him. Then God brings up the dead who then are standing before the white throne of judgement and if their names aren’t in the book of life..they are thrown into the lake of fire.

Some people think when people die they then go to either heaven or hell but I think that when people die they stay sleeping in the earth until either they hear the trumpet that marks the rapture, that the dead will rise first then those who remain. So people aren’t in heaven hanging with God, they are still in the ground.
‭‭1 THESSALONIANS‬ ‭4:15-16
For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

And the rest of the dead don’t come alive until..
REVELATION‬ ‭20:5‬ ‭
The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection.

It matters where hell is located because many think hell exists right now. However the Bible tells us hell will happen on this earth after the judgement of the evil.

I don’t think that hell exist’s on the earth according to the white throne judgement and Revelation 21:1-3

REVELATION‬ ‭21:1-3, 8‬ ‭
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them.
But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.
‭‭Since the first earth will pass away and there will still be a lake of fire...your theory is wrong.

The “first” Earth will be the lake of fire. Not many will escape “judgment”. Only the chosen will survive.

I do not have any scriptures to back me up. Why ? Because God never spoke of a place called Hell in the Old Testament. However he did speak of the destruction, wrath, and judgment that he would bring to this earth.

God also spoke of His Messiah that would come and who did come, Isaiah 53 gives a glimpse of Jesus.
You’ve got Jesus wrong and hell wrong because you won’t accept the whole Bible and for such a flimsy reason too.

If you say so Lisa. You know I won’t go back and forth with you. I consider you an energy drainer. You hold stead-fast to non sense no matter what.

It’s funny that you pointed out that I do not accept the whole Bible, when your own fellow Christians prove you wrong day in and out with scriptures.

With that being said I noticed you don’t accept “whole Bible” as well. Only when it’s convenient to your beliefs.

They do? You mean with the once saved always saved theology? I think I gave good Biblical evidence to why I believe that I was right on that.

What things don’t I accept of the whole Bible? I’m not sure what you are talking about?

Not according to the Bible.

1 Corinthians 6:2-3, " Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life?"

Revelation 20:4, "And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years." Its the saints who will rule and reign and judge for a thousand years with Christ.

The Bible does not tell us the unrighteous who will be alive when He returns the second time will be alive during the thousand years. In fact the Bible tells us the earth will be a "bottomless pit" which means the earth will be void and only Satan will be alive and be chained during the thousand years here on earth.

The whole time during the millennium, the dead are still dead and are only brought up after the God deals with the people gathered against Him. Then God brings up the dead who then are standing before the white throne of judgement and if their names aren’t in the book of life..they are thrown into the lake of fire.
All the unrighteous will be dead during the millennium. On this earth only Satan will be alive for a thousand years. Revelation 20:1-3, "Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while." The word for “bottomless pit” in the original Greek is “abussos,” or abyss. That same word is used in Genesis 1:2 in the Greek version of the Old Testament in connection with the creation of the earth, but there it is translated “deep.” “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep.” The words “deep,” “bottomless pit,” and “abyss” here refer to the same thing—the earth in its totally dark, disorganized form before God made order of it. Jeremiah, in describing this earth during the 1,000 years, used virtually the same terms as these in Genesis 1:2: “without form, and void,” “no light,” “no man,” and “black” (Jeremiah 4:23, 25, 28). So the battered, dark earth with no people alive will be called the bottomless pit, or abyss, during the 1,000 years, just as it was in the beginning before Creation was completed. Also, Isaiah 24:22 speaks of Satan and his angels during the 1,000 years as “gathered in the pit” and “shut up in the prison.” The terrible destruction which occurs at the second coming leaves the earth devastated and uninhabited. Satan will be unable to continue his work of evil because there will be no one to tempt. Then the unrighteous will be resurrected the second time and Satan will be loosed out of his prison for a while. Revelation 20:7. Satan and the unrighteous will then attack God's people and fire will rain from heaven and that will be hell.

Some people think when people die they then go to either heaven or hell but I think that when people die they stay sleeping in the earth until either they hear the trumpet that marks the rapture, that the dead will rise first then those who remain. So people aren’t in heaven hanging with God, they are still in the ground.
True.

‭‭Since the first earth will pass away and there will still be a lake of fire...your theory is wrong.
After the a thousand years, the unrighteous will be raised from the dead and Satan will be loosed for a while, Revelation 20:5, 7, 8. Also the holy city, New Jerusalem will come down to earth from heaven. Revelation 21:2-3, "Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God."

Satan, true to his nature, will immediately begin lying to the people left on the earth—the wicked from all ages. He and the wicked will surround New Jerusalem. Revelation 20:7-9, “Satan will … go out to deceive the nations … of the earth … to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city.”

Then, Revelation 20:9, 10; 21:8, “Fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. The devil, who deceived them, was cast into ... the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death” So as you can see hell will literally be on earth and after their punishment, the wicked will die the second death which is eternal.

Revelation 21:6-8, "And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”" This part of Revelation 21 is just telling us of those who are allowed inside the city, and those who will not be in the city. Needless to say, the great majority will be outside of the city. It does not say that hell is located somewhere else other than earth because that will be contradicting itself.

Revelation‬ ‭21:1-3, which you posted is describing the new heavens and earth that will be created after the fire has completely eradicated sin and those who cherish it from the universe forever. The heading in the NKJV says, "All Things Made New". The New Jerusalem will never leave earth again after it comes down. Hell will happen right in front of the righteous. The Lord will then wipe all tears away from His redeemed people because many will lose their loved ones and friends forever in the fire. God will create new heavens and a new earth for His saints. This earth will be restored to its former glory before sin. And God will reside here with His people throughout eternity.

Matthew 5:5, "Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth." This is referring to the new restored earth after sin has been eradicated forever. The people that will be on the new earth will not be proud people. They will be willing to submit to God’s leading.

Revelation 21:1-5, "Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.””

Psalm 115:16, "The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD's; But the earth He has given to the children of men."

There is not going to be hell after the New earth and heaven is created. That doesn't harmonise with the Word of God.

Jesuschrist will not reign with those in the 1,000 years. God and satan will be with them. fun begins with repentance to jesuschrist and actually, totally mean it!!
Not according to the Bible. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years." It clearly says the saints will reign with Christ for a thousand years.

Why would God and Satan be with anyone together? That isn't biblical is it?

What is the “The Message”?
A very “modern” Bible translation, oddly loved by the Church of England right now?!

Here’s a sample (including The Lord’s Prayer)

Matthew 6:9-13 The Message (MSG)

7-13 “The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:

Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what’s best—
as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You’re in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You’re ablaze in beauty!
Yes. Yes. Yes.

If the lake that burns with fire and brimstone is hell, what is the lake of fire that hell gets cast into?

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
