I made a general statement about the change in societal conditions which I think plays a role in the recent unpleasantness of society and is doing us a disservice. I never advocated violence against anyone or any group.

But it is shocking to me at this point in time to see so many entitled pricks celebrating the end of “pc” who two decades ago (before pc was even a thing) wouldn’t dared have said half the shit coming out of their mouths because they knew they’d have to answer for it.

yes, i liked that post. but how do you know what i liked about it?

i liked a lot of what lurker said, but i particularly didnt care for the wording "a polite society". i dont think gun rights have anything to do with politeness; at least i couldnt understand that phrasing. with an armed public, i do think that many individuals will rethink a career in criminality when that career could end on their first day. guns are not for preemptive attack-- they are for self defense. i would never support a preemptive attack using guns on someone else, ESPECIALLY when its over something as insignificant as a verbal debate.
i support gun ownership 100% with zero compromise on that issue.

I have zero problem with gun ownership. So I’m not sure if you think your arguing against me.. but your not. I do believe in background checks because i think certain behaviors restrict your rights but that’s about it.

My point here is that if you understand how consequences work as deterrents you would see how that statement and my statement are effectively similar just on a different place of the scale. For a consequence to be effective it needs to be immediate and guaranteed. That’s why prison isn’t an effective deterrent to crime. That’s why hate speech laws or laws infringing on free speech aren’t a deterrent to people being assholes.

When I was younger and where I grew up people knew they shouldn’t say something they weren’t willing to back up with their hands. I feel like this was more true with each generation you go back.. and society was more civil in many ways.

I sit in these schools and I watch these kids all day every day... and I’m not called for the ones who run their mouths, who bully and berate and verbally and emotionally abuse others. They get off Scott free no matter what damage their behavior causes cuz “it’s just words” - but god help the person who stands up to them with a slap or a punch. They’re going through the criminal justice system and being put on meds and assigned a behavior specialist and one on one assistance and monitoring all damn day. It isn’t right. And on a societal level we are having issues that are only going to continue to get worse as a result because we are ignoring basic human psychology and behavioral principles to stand on the alter of free speech and the right to be dicks.

this is true, but society was more civil for a lot of reasons other than for backing up your claims with your fists. perhaps the primary reason was that we had strong family cohesiveness and parents taught their children morality and correct behavior.
this is why you have to see these delinquents in your school.
