does anyone else feel like nowadays kpop groups become famous for just being korean? kpop groups now don't become famous because the members are good singers, have talent, or are genuinely in it for the artistry (and don't get me wrong, this was the case for some old kpop groups, but it has gotten way severe). i've been thinking back on how ppl (specifically americans) used to react to 1st/2nd gen kpop and they always attacked the unique/flashy/interesting/fresh concepts that made kpop, well, kpop. and the entire kpop industry started becoming ashamed of what made kpop unique. yea, time has passed, preferences and trends have changed, but literally no groups are doing anything groundbreaking anymore. i feel like f(x) was the last gg that took risks and shinee were the last bg to take risks before jh died. the remaining 2nd gen groups have gone downhill because everyone's scared, everyone's playing it safe. hot topic cheap shein concepts for ggs and macho alpha concepts for bgs. and i feel like a lot of the blame is because of bts lmao. a bunch of companies basically found out that all it takes are some conventionally pretty koreans in a group to make profit, to draw allll the koreaboos and femboy fetishizers in, and dedicating any time towards the quality of the music or concepts is just a waste of time.
p.s. 0new's japanese debut single life goes on or something sucks i bet it took 30 minutes to write that shit
