Wow! This is yet another
stupid project from our provincial government! Throwing money at something that already exists in another form at the provincial and federal levels.
As an FYI, the so-called "services" this Digital ID is attempting to verify already exist, as I have used them myself. When an individual fills out online forms at either levels, it asks for information such as a Social Insurance Number, Driver's License, Health Card Numbers, bank account #s, home address, etc., to verify who's filling out the forms. If the information isn't correct, they will inform you to let you know it's either incorrect or I'm assuming, the information doesn't belong to the individual. People can try and cheat the system this way, but it'll eventually get found out. Not to mention, considering how this province has treated small businesses with the constant lockdowns, what business in their right mind would think having their information online with a digital ID with the
McKinsey Global Institute would be a
good thing? I can't recall the specifics, but something like this happened with Haliburton, SNC-Lavalin having the contract for Canada's income tax filings, personal information and there were concerns then. I don't think anything's changed to allay our concerns.
This just seems like wasted money on something we could've used on something more meaningful for our province. However, as usual this government could care less about what this province really needs.
