True, their fandom like to dismiss the impact P S Y had, they call him a "meme" and talk about nobody took him seriusly in the west (as if the west take b t 5 seriusly).
That fandom can turn a lie into a truth and a truth into a lie, they are the ones that media play the most, that's why it's very difficult to understand the real impact that group has.
All i can say is that rarely people talk about their music, they are more like a trend, and trends are never longlasting
yes, BTS has a big fandom and are "trendy" with teenagers. But the general public are not familiar with their music

If you ask a random person about a popular BTS song, nobody will know the answer
But if you ask a random person about "gangan style" most people would be familiar with the song

PSY might be a "meme" but his song had more impact than anything BTS ever did

Outside the Twitter ecochamber and other kpop related forums, BTS isn't known by the gp. Indeed, the kpop genre is seen as music for weirdos or people that are a lot into anime and other East Asian related stuff.

But if you ask a random person on the street about Psy, they will know about the song "Gangnam Style". Perhaps they won't know the name of the song, but they will know about the song.

Wtf, why is jk and jm always ranked higher than V???
Pretty sure they do some harder rituals than Tae to get on the spot, i mean how is jamal on 1st place? He is not even handsome or cute, not even talking about his lack of vocal.
Now i understand why bigshit always promote jikook, why they always are the leads in all bangtan bomb videos. It's always jikook ft other members.
Why is jamal so popular in korea, he is so average, he doesn't have visual, neither the talent, he must be special to the elite to hold that place. Kook is not really good looking (in my opinion, i hope i don't offend anyone) but at least he have some talent.
But jamal??

What do they mean by "brand value", though?

I don't find any of them particularly good looking. V can look very handsome in photos and is the most attractive of the bunch (to me -- but beauty is, of course, a very subjective thing), but his overly feminine style (wearing actual women's clothing) kind of diminishes that. JK is maybe cute, but certainly not handsome. He is the only one who can sing reliably in tune, though, so I get why he is pushed so hard. He is the main singer and carries the rest of them in terms of vocals. JM, I guess, is popular because he is the "sexy" one -- though it is hard to imagine that his flamboyancy is that attractive to women. (And his vocals are the weakest -- they can make him sound good in the studio, but live they can't hide it.) But, maybe Korean women like effeminate men? I would have thought that J!n would be #1 in Korea since he was picked to be the visual. And he is definitely more masculine than V, JK or JM. But, he doesn't seem to have much personality and his talent is mediocre, so maybe that explains why he isn't as popular?

you sound like an angry th stan, theres no way that they will do a ritual just for that stupid spot, and lately jm and jk has been much more popular than th and theyre actually not as boring and depressed as him to be honest, and their song from the bt$ game is promoted very highly. jk is the main character of bt$ and jm is the second character, he is very popular among men much more than th and even jk ever did, like it or not, its true, dont be mad that th didnt get the first spot.

when i first see bt$ in the bst mv, i like jn and jk and i actually think th is ugly for some reason, jn is actually attractive and the most masculine looking member next to nj, but most girls like girly looking boys and "flower boys" like the maknae line

Jimin has been the most popular in korea for a while, It could be because of his cute act because koreans like that.
But even if he has awful vocals I can recognize Jimin has some type of charisma ,I remember the first BTs performance I watched he stood out a lot...it was this one:

you see how in that video he was manly tho....I think he was way better back then

And I agree about Jin, in that "street video" people chose him as the most handsome....but if you watch BTs perform Jin would never stand out. He is not really talented in anything

Well, you are probably right about the charisma. That is something that can't really be learned. You either have it or you don't. And I do think he has it. He is also a very talented dancer. So, I think the eye sometimes is naturally drawn to him because his movements are just better. JH is a good dancer, too, but he is the least attractive of the group -- so between the 2 JM looks better dancing even if technically he isn't better. His voice, though, is tough to listen to live. But maybe if they didn't make him sing such high pitches all the time, it wouldn't be that bad. Before puberty hit, he could probably hit the notes a lot easier. Most men don't use falsetto that much because it is hard to do it well. I mean, a long time ago they castrated boys in order to keep them as sopranos ... which means it isn't something that post-pubescent males can do easily. So, I guess he can't be faulted for some of the vocal issues he has. Most of it is probably BH's fault.

And I don't get the "cute" acting stuff at all. But that is just a cultural thing, I guess. I find it incredibly annoying and infantilizing, but that's coming from a Western perspective. If Koreans really like that kind of stuff, it makes sense he'd be the favorite since he does it the most.

Jikook are definitely Big$hits faves and the most promoted. It is becoming too much in fact causing some to complain about the discrimination against other members. They take up most of the content released by Big$hit, behind the scenes probably also the most promoted, so it is no wonder they rank first. Depsite all this wasn’t V first or second just last month? I have no idea what these rankings are based on. I also have a hard time seeing why Jimin is the most popular in the rankings every single time, although I think he is popular, but not exactly the ”it boy” you know. He is pretty and has stage charisma, but still...maybe they like his on screen personality? He does really feed into the shipping stuff with Jk, they constantly keep posting and flirting with eo so perhaps that contributes as well.

Jin is a handsome guy, but, his problem is that, it's just that, a handsome guy. His singing abilities are average, his dancing ability average and his stage presence not so great. If you've seen videos of their stages, it's easy to forget that he is there. I'm sorry, I don't really see this guy with a solo career.

I can understand why Jimin and Jungkook are the most popular. As others here have said before, Jimin is pretty charismatic and somehow attractive; at times sounds like a lamb being slaughtered, but, who cares? And Jungkook can sing and has presence when dancing.

Looks matter, it's true for BTS and any other singer or entertainment personality.

Except that Jimin is not the most popular among fans, it is TH & JK, Jimin comes in third by quite a margin. They have the most fans, even on this forum TH seems to have the most fans depsite the fact that people aren’t really ”fans” which reflects the wider audience. However Jamal consistently ranks number 1 on these non voted polls. In terms of looks and charisma/charm TH is number one (imo) and number two in vocals in the group ( at least has the most unique voice), also good stage presence. JK is the main singer and dances powerfully, looks are good and in a lot of shipping so I get it. Jimin comes in number three, has good stage presence, dances great although has the worst vocals. He looks pretty in a non masculine, way, not on par with TH, Jin or Jk and the thing that stands out about his personality is how feminine and cute he behaves while flirts and hits on men all the time. How would that make him the most popular among a female audience makes no sense to me. V has been number two on these rankings before but I guess not being active on social media and looking unhappy during interviews makes your rank drop.
jimin was voted the most popular in the Gallup poll tho. I posted the results not long ago (its a national korean service with random netizens)
He was way ahead of names like Gragon and IU, wich was really impressive to me
And there was other time when BTS went to a TV variety show and he was trending on Naver (korean site)

so it looks like people like him....because of his "cute" persona and stage charisma
Taehyung is good looking, has a lot of fans like JK but maybe the korean public dont find anything special about him

Besides JM and JK are kind of a package deal.....if you like one of them you will probably like the other too (because they are always together?)....so the ship benefits them both

I deleted my post, because these rankings change all the time. Last time V was number 2 and Jk was 4 and in another poll V was the most popular so forth. What is clear is that the maknae line are more popular than the hyungs. No one in BTS has what it takes to be like G dragon though, who has both talent and outstanding charisma despite mediocre looks. At the end of the day it is about having ”it”.He is the only kpop idol to have a solo world tour in Asia/US/europe. I don’t think any BTS member will have solo success on that level in music, certainly not Jimin. As I said before, they are much better off together.
Part of the reason is because G dragon made himself stand out in many ways apart from rapping and wrote/produced music. TOP was much better looking than G dragon but Gdragon is the most sucessful, although TOP came in second before his marijuana scandal.

yeah, I agree BTS has the typical "cheerleader effect", it means they are decent together but alone...its a different story

Jimin has star quallity but with those vocals he could never be solo, and JK while he has a decent voice, he is is very boring IMO so I dont find him all that ......they all benefit of being in a group and I actually think Sugar has the most chances of being succesful alone but as a producer behind the scenes

But, I think who is popular and who isn't is largely a product of who is promoted by the media. In my day, MTV was the king maker in terms of musical artists. If MTV said you were the "it" artist -- people just accepted it and followed. Now it is YT views and twitter followers that push who is the artist of the moment. Of course, the media helps those that are pushing whatever agenda they want at the moment. I don't know much about G dragon -- but looking at images of him, it is clear that you can check off all the occult symbolism in his stuff, just like BTS and others VC talks about on this site. He seems to be part of the "gender bending" crowd and is vocal about LGBQT and that is the issue being heavily promoted right now -- which explains the push of BTS and k-pop in general in the US.

Very few artists are truly popular outside of media manipulation. That's not to say those being promoted aren't talented or that people don't actually like their music -- but just that they get contracts and promotion that people who refuse to sell their souls don't get. If the media wants to make someone like JK the next big thing -- they will. And most people will be easily manipulated to go along with it. They are already planting the seeds with his meeting up with western celebs like Ariana Grande, etc. Seems to me that he is the only one who is being groomed for a potential solo career. Suga will probably produce -- RM, too, since I don't think he can really pull off a solo rap career. Or he might even go the politics route as an ambassador or something. JH can choreograph. JM could, too. V has acting/modeling. Not sure what Jin could do -- maybe just own restaurants? Endorsements? I think they are likely to disband in 2020 -- but I bet they will get a grammy before they do.

yikes the replies to that tweet are so ugly, Armys are really out of control o_O
And what is this?

is about the video posted here before? the guy and Billboard girl saying there is a BTS over saturation.....I imagine the kind of hate the guy is getting after what he said lol

Yes it is. Army has been going crazy over it for the past few days. I recommend watching it. It raised really interesting points about BH's strategy that I hadn't considered before. All in all an informative, mature discussion among adults about the industrial perspective on BT$.
The only thing I would criticise is, that when Army posted hate comments on the channel, the guy started verbally abusing the commentators. Most of them are stupid teenagers, you are a grown man. Block and ignore the comments or collect hate speech/ threats and report to the police.

Gdragon has been in the industry since he was a child (7 years old) he was part of kid shows

GDragon has interesting fashion (loving mickey mouse)

And interesting tattos, (a tattoo on his stomack that says "mind control")

so looking at this you can guess whats going on with him .He went from child star to superstar....all his life in the entertainment world

I agree with you that the media pushes stars to be popular, in BH case they have a prefference for JK
In their videos JK is always the protagonist and the others side characters

I only watched a little part and it was interesting
Im surprised the girl is getting hate because she was very nice about BTS, you could tell she was scared of talking too much

But the guy was very open, he said BTS game sucks, he said BTS is not using that new app and its their staff and he is tired of seeing BTS everywhere lol....I agree with a lot of his opinions. But I imagine Armys want to kill him
