Instinct keeps us away from the goo our brain tells us...the goo is bad, the goo is pain, the goo hurts, we are designed to stay away from the goo, some may even say, innately. The varying depictions on screen are Hollywood's attempt to express an interpretation of a prehistoric ritual, one no human witnessed.. I think it is interesting to point out the contrast between the sacred and the profane. In our mind everything the goo touches is debauched, in some of these "productions" the goo is accepted even sought out. The symbols on screen made up of sound, visuals, human facial features, the assumed real, and words trigger deep imprints in the mind's eye, and in the 120 quadrillion ancient atoms that help make up our blood.
