It’s Incredibly Harmful To Search For Pictures Of Kim Petras Pre-Transition
Kim Petras made history last night as the first transgender woman to win the best duo/group collaboration alongside Sam Smith for their single Unholy. The 30-year-old singer gave an impassioned speech thanking pioneers who ‘kicked the doors open’ to make way for artists like her- including Wendy Carlos, the first trans woman to win a Grammy back in 1970 for synth album Switched-On Bach.
‘All these years are going through my head of people saying I'd be a niche artist because I'm transgender, and my music would only ever play in gay clubs - and what's wrong with that, because I love gay clubs - but now I got a Grammy for making gay club music with my friend,’ Petras said after her win. 'It's the best feeling in the world.’
It should be a beautiful, empowering moment then – and it certainly is – but the win is somewhat clouded by the immediate reaction afterwards, be it transphobic trolling online or the harmful Google searches revealed by Google Trends. According to the data platform, ‘Kim Petras as a boy’ was a breakout search term immediately after her win, alongside phrases like ‘Kim Petras man’ and ‘Kim Petras before’. Even ‘Kim Petras as a child’ is trending, a not-so-subtle attempt for the transphobic public to seek out pictures of Petras pre-transition.
What’s telling about these searches is what they say about people’s attitude towards trans people, especially in moments that should be purely joyful. We know it’s harmful to share images of trans people pre-transition, that they’re often used to delegitimise and demonise trans people and usually shared with the intention to upset or traumatise someone, so to seek out such pictures indicates an intention to cause harm to the trans community. Couple that with the blatant transphobia on Twitter following Petras’ win and it’s clear that despite her breaking records, society is far from celebratory of trans joy.
So, if you come across any images, or are curious to seek them out yourself, remember the harm that can be done by engaging with them or sharing them. Kim Petras deserves this win to be all about her incredible talent, let’s not let it be clouded in transphobia.
It is hurtful and transphobic to look at TIM Petras pre-op
From Tim to Kim: German pop star, 16, becomes world's youngest transsexual after sex change op
German teenager Kim Petras who became the world's youngest transsexual after undergoing an operation at the age of just 16 says she can't wait for the summer so she can try out a whole new wardrobe of tight fitting clothes.
The pop singer - born Tim - is well known in Germany for having started hormone replacement therapy as part of her gender transition by the age of 12.
Now 16, she completed Gender Reassignment Surgery in November, according to a posting on her blog.
Girl in a boy's body: Pop singer Kim Petras, 16, may have become the world's youngest transsexual after completing gender reassignment surgery last November
Switch: Kim Petras is currently the world's youngest transsexual after having gender reassignment surgery earlier this year at the age of 16
Dr Bernd Meyenburg who heads the Psychiatric Special Outpatient Clinic for Children and Adolescents with Identity Disorders at the University of Frankfurt Hospital said: 'Very few youth psychiatrists have any experience with transsexual developments. The families wander from one psychiatrist to the next.
'I was always against such operations on children so young but after seeing how happy one of my patients was and how well adjusted after returning from having the operation abroad while still a teenager – I realised that in some cases it is the right decision.
'Kim is such a case – she always knew what she wanted.'
Kim herself said: 'Everything has changed because of this operation. I just can't wait to put on my favourite bathing suit and go swimming like I've never done before.
'I had to wait until my 16th birthday but once that was past I was able legally to have the operation.
'I know that because of my past people will always bring up the subject, I can't get away from it. But I hope that one day I might be better known for something else like my music.'
In Germany, such operations are not usually allowed until the patient is 18.
However Kim managed to convince doctors when she was just 12 that she should have the surgery.
By 14 she was officially registered as a girl - and was already famous for her choice.
The costs of her procedure were covered by health insurance as her condition was officially diagnosed as an illness.
Dr Achim Wuesthof, an endocrinologist specialising in children and adolescents, who was treating Kim at a clinic in Hamburg, said that he and his colleagues felt that in this case it had been best to start earlier.
He said: 'To the best of my knowledge, Kim is the youngest sex change patient in the world.
'According to German law, two independent psychiatrists must confirm that the child is indeed transsexual and approve the sex change. Once that has been done, it is best to start as early as possible.
'Transsexuals experience the onset of puberty, and the physical changes it brings, as a serious trauma.
'But there is a general lack of empathy with cases like Kim's, mostly because people know little about the condition. Imagine a man that suddenly starts growing breasts or a woman that starts growing a beard against their will – that is how Kim and people like her experience puberty.
'They are not freaks, nor do they suffer mental illness. They are simply trapped in the wrong bodies. That is why it is best to help them as early as possible and reduce the trauma for them and their families.'
Last year Kim was signed to Joyce Records and released online her first single 'Last Forever'. It became a YouTube and MySpace hit.
In September - just weeks before the cosmetic surgery finalising her transition from a male to a female -she released her first commercially available single 'Fade Away' into the German market.
Kim said: 'I was asked if I feel like a woman now – but the truth is I have always felt like a woman – I just ended up in the wrong body.
'I had a problem because I couldn't wear skinny stuff, but now I can wear whatever I want to. I really am looking forward to going swimming like everyone else and to wearing tight jeans that show off my figure. They are so tight, I always felt quite uncomfortable in them until now.
'Now I can go as tight as I want to. I used to wear mini skirts too, but yes, now even the tight ones can be part of my wardrobe.
'I can enjoy swimming, and bikinis, go in the changing rooms without a problem, everything has changed because of this operation. I just can't wait to put on my favourite bathing suit and go swimming like I've never done before.'
Kim, who is now studying fashion design, began calling herself a girl when she was just two years old.
Her father Lutz said: 'I suppose it took me longer than my wife to accept it, but Kim is a very persuasive girl, she knows what she wants and how to get it.
'I am very proud of what she has achieved, how she has managed to get there and how she sticks to her dreams no matter how hard and painful they are to follow.'
Transgender pop star Kim Petras says transitioning at 16 allowed her to chase stardom
“I had surgery at 16 — it allowed me, for the end of my teens, to be a normal girl. If you believe kids, that they are transgender, they can have a happy life earlier. And not be suicidal. Because I was suicidal, until I got surgery.”
Kim’s parents understood and her mum, a dance teacher with gay and transgender friends, sought professional help from psychologists and doctors from when she was 12.
She says: “I was so lucky to have supportive parents. I feel so blessed that I got to do it as young as I did.”
But what’s important about Kim is that her transition doesn’t define her.
Sure, it’s a big part of her story, but more fascinating is how she moved to Los Angeles with nothing and is now on the cutting edge of pop music.
Kim prepared herself by using her tough school years to learn how to write music on her MacBook computer.
She recalls: “I was just writing about boys that didn’t like me back. Really cheesy, but I eventually got much better and kind of wouldn’t stop.” She was able to afford the trip to Los Angeles after writing a jingle for laundry detergent in Germany, which helped her secure a publishing deal.
But despite making some amazing music, Kim became disillusioned with mainstream record companies in LA. She recalls: “All the labels were just talking about me being transgender constantly and didn’t even listen to the music. All the meetings I had with them were just like, ‘How do we promote it? How do we not promote it? Can you be a pop star and be transgender?’ “All these old men would talk about my gender and I was like, ‘Ugh’.”
Getting on radio playlists is also proving difficult, which is ridiculously discriminatory given the obvious quality of her tunes. She says with horror: “I’ve had a meeting with somebody who was like, ‘If I work for you, I’m going to hell because you’re going to hell’.”
As a result, she decided to maintain control of her music, saying: “That’s the reason why I get to be transgender and an artist — I don’t think I would if I had to go with a major label.” Kim’s main music collaborator has been Dr Luke, the controversial producer fighting for his reputation after being accused of physical, sexual and verbal abuse by Kesha.
IT was a penis painter that ended up helping Kim become friends with Miley Cyrus , one of her pop heroes. They met in March at the birthday party of cosmetics king Francois Nars, who had hired the quirky artist as entertainment. She says: “We were having this chat while this dude was painting a picture with his d*** and were all just staring at it.”
Kim is also tight with socialite
Paris Hilton, who appeared in her video for I Don’t Want It All.

What are his songs about? Demons, death, hell, blood, evil, human sacrifice
Sample Tim Petras Lyrics
<demons>
The spirits are why the house is possessed
They've never existed in physical form
They've only exist in spirit form
It's true evil
Demons
Massacre
It's gonna be a massacre, gonna be a massacre, gonna be a massacre
One taste of blood is not enough to satisfy
Take your last breath and get a rush, gotta die to feel alive
Sweet evil come deliver us the sacrifice
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, gotta die to feel alive
Tell Me Its A Nightmare
I'm a demon in the shadows
And you stepped into the dark
Everybody Dies
Mama's gonna get a call one day
That her baby's dead and gone away
I been knocking on Heaven's door
Since the day that I was born
Yeah, since a young girl
Always knew that I was trouble
Livin' like a loaded pistol
'Cause when you're gone is when they miss ya
So I'm gon' rebel until the end
And when I go down, I'ma see you in Hell
You can't scare me, I'm prepared
So give me all my roses while I'm here
Not everybody fears
But everybody cries
Not everybody lives
But everybody dies
And you stepped into the dark
Party Til I Die
I'ma end up dead, I'll still be in Vetements
Find me in the back with a lethal weapon
All designer drugs all up in my system
Party till I die, till my resurrection
When I'm gone, I'ma be a legend
Sex icon like Marilyn Manson
Look in the mirror, all I see is REDЯUM
I'll see you in hell, heaven's not an option
Dark paradise calling me home
We already know where we're gonna go
Close Your Eyes
When the beast comes out at night
Yeah, it always wants a bite
And I try, try to the resist
But then the devil always wins, yeah
Wrong Turn
Follow flames, bloody bones
Whips and chains, heart to stone
I am who you really fear
Hold your tears, save the press
Demons, bottles, crucified
You and death come eye to eye
Go and kiss your life goodbye
Kiss your life goodbye
It's your final destination
Count your blessings
Time to make a sacrifice
Take a deep breath
Let it sink in
Now you realize
You took the wrong turn, took the wrong turn, at the wrong time
There Will Be Blood
In the club, I can't save you now
Ain't nobody can hear you shout
When I'm pulling you underground
(There will be)
Take a sip from the devil's cup
Just a taste, you won't get enough
Seal your fate when you swallow up
(There will be)
Don't let me in, I'ma ruin your life
I'm straight psychotic
(There will be)
This is gonna be a hell of a night
I know you want it
There will be blood
Run for your life
Go on and say, Go on and say your last goodbye
There will be blood
You're gonna die
You'll never make it, never make it through the night
In the Next Life
There's no turning back now, I can't be saved
And in the next life they'll remember me, remember me
I'm the greatest, God created
I'm a sickness, I'm contagious
I'm a demon, power trippin'
On the mission and vindictive
Suffocating, exterminating
And I love that every second
Full of hatred, irritated
Cut you open for entertainment
Slut Pop
This is Slut Pop
Whip your dick out
Turn your bitch out
Out, out, out-out-out-out
This is Slut Pop
Get your tits out
Do it right now
Now, now, now-now-now-now
Treat Me Like a Slut
Little dirty bitch, I love to fuck
Treat me like a slut
Throat Goat
I can take it all
Love it big or small
Make it hit the wall
I'm the throat
goat
I just sucked my ex
No gag reflex
I just had to flex
I'm the throat
goat
What's my name?
What's my name?
What's my name?
I'm the throat
goat
