Bronies, such as myself, have been around for nearly a decade. Only, like, half of us are perverted degenerates. But it really is a good show. Not my fault ninety percent of television is shit and I have to watch a kid's show to find something good. It ended on a very bad note though with an episode that had a super creepy totaltarian moral.

I've met a few self proclaimed "bronies", they're all really weird. Like the creeper kid in school that always sat alone and talked to himself. The ones that never fit in anywhere. Poor kids who didn't dress well and were made fun of a lot. I feel like a lot of this is the reason why so many cling to stuff like this, i feel like they didn't have a good go as a child, so they act like a child as an adult. It's really sad.

Gonna say. Any man who works so closely with children, especially doing children's entertainment, falls under suspicion to me.
I mean there could be an easy answer such as "failed actor who couldn't get any other gigs" or a parent who decided to start a show for their kids...but if you investigate the background of the individual and there are questionable red flags (unmarried, middle aged/older man, no kids, peculiar habits etc.) that makes me wonder....

he isnt a clown per se, he has many characters. each show he's doing roleplay as someone else, be it women, old women..which is esp where it gets weird.
It's the way he plays all these characters with such enthusiasm, really gets into it with that same annoying weird happy face, breaking into song almost always.

He had a female co-presenter/actress on there who did a little nude thing on the side once, he completely cut her off. Not just from the show but never spoke to her again.

Bronies are like furries. Fucking weird, but 99.5% of them are harmless. I don't get either, but I met some people who were part of the fandom and they were decent folks.

I might be way off, because I don’t really get it either. It seems the furry thing is more of a kink or an obsession for many, while brony fandom just seems like an outlet for young men who desperately want attention from women but rely on imaginary relationships with cartoon ponies instead for whatever reason, whether they are socially awkward, frustrated, fearful, fragile, etc.

So I'm not sure if this common knowledge or not, but randomly scrolling through the internet today, I stumbled across "Bronies" & had to reach out to my fellow VCs. (As with most internet paths, I was reading an article, which led to other articles, which led to watching David Lynch's "Six Men Getting Sick (Six Times)" on YouTube & if that wasn't odd enough, the comments led to Bronies. (On YouTube, someone commented that they should redo the film with ponies, and a self-proclaimed "Furry" called the poster a "Bronie"). Being the overly curious person I am, I had new topic to investigate... and this one is a doozy. I'm sure most of you remember "My Little Pony" - the cute little toy & 80s cartoon show was something I remember loving as a child. The people in this forum are already well-versed on the adult themes hidden in cartoons, from Disney to Sponge Bob, but I never heard "My Little Pony" cited as an example.... until today.

All it took was entering "bronie" into Google & yowza, a whole new like-minded group exploded in the search results. Basically, "My Little Pony" was rebooted by a woman named Lauren Faust (interesting last name...I immediately thought of the Faustian Bargain to make a deal with the devil, but it could just be a coincidence...) & the reboot has attracted so many adult-male fans that they have termed themselves "Bronies". Sounded creepy, but hey, I thought maybe it is just nerdy guys trying to be overly ironic or something, who am I to judge? So I pressed on... and did not like what I found... it seems that the "My Little Pony" reboot purposely included adult themes, and now has "Bronies" making odd fan videos. Remember the VC article about YouTube & the corruption of knock-off cartoons to include violence, sex, & other adult themes as a way to secretly traumatize kids? It appears the same thing is now being done with “My Little Pony”, only the creator (Faust) is proud that there are so many adult fans (so proud that they even made a YouTube promo video for Bronies to the theme song of Katy Perry’s “California Girls”:

This means that a cartoon designed for toddler-aged females is now openly catering to an adult-male fanbase… but that doesn’t mean that these young kids are going to stop watching the show. It means that, once again, today’s youth will subconsciously be served adult topics through a seemingly innocuous platform. That is when I stopped reading and came here… has anyone else heard of this? And if so, are you as creeped out as I am?? Granted I haven’t watched My Little Pony for probably like 25 years or so, but I really don’t think the original show had underlying adult themes – or at least I have never seen it explicitly mentioned. But the fact that the reboot has garnered SO MANY adult men as fans that they literally have a name (Bronies) left my skin crawling. I just randomly stumbled upon this, so I wasn’t sure if you all have heard of this phenomenon or had any insight, but I felt it deserved being discussed. I don’t personally have children, but if I did, I would want to know that My Little Pony (MLP, for short) has this sinister side to it… apparently just googling “Pinkie Pie” (a character on the show) will quickly lead to images & videos of this poor Pony in very adult situations.

Normally I really don’t care what consenting adults do in their spare time, it’s not my place to judge - if no one is being hurt. BUT, to take a child’s platform & purposely corrupt it for sick, deviant behavior is just plain wrong. Especially since it appears nothing being done to curb this aberrant misuse of a trademarked cartoon – quite the opposite actually, it is being promoted by the creator of the reboot! THAT I have a MAJOR problem with…. If some weirdos want to make a sexed up, violent version of a cartoon, it should be forced to use a different name so there is no confusion with the actual show, because no child needs to lose their innocence just for clicking the wrong link… Again, I don’t know if this is widely known, but I just stumbled upon “Bronies” & am still reeling.

I mean, no offense, but even the guys that are shown & quoted in the "positive" Brony article creep the hell out of me… collecting dolls, remaking videos using ponies – I swear I can see their creepiness oozing through their photos….there is even a BronyCon for these male fans! (which of course includes sexualized versions of the Ponies, so any unsuspecting parent could easily bring their young daughter there without realizing the depravity waiting behind the convention’s doors). Of note, the reboot is called “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” which immediately sounded like “grooming” to me…

Oh & did I mention that the target audience for the show is ages 2-12? Are you as creeped out as I am now?!?!

You are like 6 years too late. The whole MLP Brony fad has long since left the station and has been replaced by other stuff.

MLP is first and foremost a show for little girls age 4-7. It always has been, it always will be. Lauren Faust got the contract from hasbro and this isn't the first reboot of this franchise, just the one that took off propelled not by the intended demographic but by the dads, brothers, cousins ... BOYS who watched it. Something in the show really resonated with them...and no it wasn't some satanic mind control bs. Rather something way more basic. The need to be accepted for who they are not for what they can accomplish, have, or fight.

YES you need to show some common sense when viewing media with your kids, and obviously going to ANY type of entertainment convention you are going to see some interesting things that are NOT suitable for all audiences. Be aware of that. Pony porn has existed, and NO it's not "endorsed" by Lauren Faust, she may KNOW about it, because she's not blissfully detached from the fans but what can she do about it? Rule 34 of the internet states, "if it exists, there is porn of it". I know you are full of righteous indignation that such stuff exists of a show dedicated to little kids but it's the internet, and unless you want to make it your personal mission to scrub the internet of all forms of adult material make sure you use a filter.

Perhaps it would be best for you to google "rules of the internet" it's satire, but there is some sage wisdom in between the lines.

What the Bronies have shown us, is that there is a genuine detachment between men and their emotions, and that many men relate to the franchise simply because they envy the qualities they see in the ponies and want to emulate those qualities in themselves and have meaningful relationships with each other that women take for granted. We get a free "pass" to talk, share emotions, to be open with each other in a way that most men will never have. Sure they have it when they are children but it gets beat out of them. They lose that connection and they are STARVED for connection. To the point that they are willing to face ridicule and be ostracized and bullied for supporting a "little girls show". Yet courage, faithfulness, tenderness, loyalty, joy, creativity, and imagination are seen as weak by the the ones making entertainment directed at men.

Sure even if there is porn of the stuff, and even if some guy is wanking one out to it, they are the MINORITY of the fandom. Tbh all fandoms have this element to them, and they are just a small group that go there because a) it's profitable b) they like it c) once its out there its impossible to remove...

Honestly, for once, it would be nice to have entertainment that dads can watch with their daughters and it NOT be awkward. Entertainment that celebrates the oh I don't know... positive things we can be for each other instead of unhealthy expectations, modeling unhealthy relationships, and materialistic lifestyles.
