I thought about this for a minute and I think it would all depend on age because age is going to determine coping mechanisms for abuse. Younger children in abusive homes have different coping mechanisms than older kids, but all kids are going to be finding a way to escape in one form or another right now.

If I was 14 or older, this would actually seem like a good time to run away because there would be no one who could report you for ditching school or something like that. I would get a friend and go somewhere small enough that they didn't have their own police station in the town. Somewhere that has a sheriff for a whole area and find something that was abandoned and not expected to be used during the lockdown.

Then, you would have to figure out who would let you work as a minor. The upside and downside of child labor laws present themselves when people won't let you work without permission from an adult when you need to work because adults can be bad people.

But schools are often a place that requires many kids to fake it and I don't really think they serve as good opportunities to report abuse anyway especially when you start getting older, so I hope someone out there is using this opportunity to find a way out. I don't know that it's really possible, but that is what I would hope for.
I think you have the same problems trying to run away right now that you have trying to score drugs. People out on the street in the midst of this arouse suspicion.

With public transport recommended to be minimized to essential travel an unaccompanied minor would attract immediate attention, as would an unaccompanied minor walking or standing on a street corner in the midst of this..

With unemployment numbers sky rocketing and most businesses closed there really aren’t that many opportunities to even find work for kids right now. Can’t even steal food out the grocery store too easily atm with people stationed at doors to meter in potential customers.

It’s a shitty time to be experiencing any kind of abuse and my heart goes out to anyone dealing with it. I unfortunately don’t have the answers.. protective services are still running but they suck under normal stresses.

Then where are the videos coming from? I won't rule out a psy-op.
I couldn’t tell you. Do they have gps tags on them? Date/time stamps?

I mean we have a lot of hospitals that aren’t very busy because covid hasn’t hit there much yet. Maybe it’s those hospitals?

I have a couple cousins working in hospitals in NY/NJ, they’ve been slammed. I feel horrible for them.

When I used to work for CPS and would stop to pick up a burger at the drive through in between calls... members of the community would complain “how do they have time” - mind you there were days I worked 32 hours straight, still need to eat.

I’ve seen the same complaints about cops over and over.. why are they out to lunch?

Sometimes I wonder if people in general think once you put on a uniform or take a government badge you just cease being human?

Maybe combined with the fact that elective procedures (anything that can be scheduled) have been canceled. Perhaps.

It's the job they signed up for.

I think the nurse dance videos are something that was a trend before this, but most people didn't realize it. I don't know why they were trending and I don't know anyone motivated to make one now, but they were already a thing.

This is from 9 years ago, but if you search for nurse dance videos, there are a ton over the past several years.

There are a lot of extra staff available that are working in other departments because there are no elective procedures in some places I would imagine.

My only complaint with that is if they can afford daily restaurants, they don't need a raise. Brown bag that shit.
And my response to that would be brown bagging it is a lot easier when you have a set shift and are on office hours. If your on a field day it is not so easy. If your working a 33 hour shift it’s impossible. Me and my coworkers would treat ourselves once a week because the remainder we were usually working through lunch.

Also, everyone deserves a raise. Cost of living at the bare minimum. But people deserve raises when they stay in jobs and work hard. It’s not like they are making a billion dollars. I’m not going to begrudge someone a fast food meal because they get paid with tax dollars.

How would you even know it was the same cop getting daily take out?

It is the job they signed up for. I can steal feel bad for how slammed they are right now and how stressful it is. I’d feel bad for anyone who was under extra stress for any reason.

I really want to see the data on this one..

@Lurker hmm.. I think we would all be a little happier and the world would be a generally better place if EVERYONE got a pat on the back for doing their job every once in a while. Not just in an emergency. There are very few people who do their jobs because they like them and prefer to be doing them to something else. And the vast majority of jobs that don’t get “pats on the backs” are the ones we actually need and that contribute to the betterment of society.

I’m a ok withholding back patting for celebrities and sports figures.

I'm sure cooler would fit in the trunk of a squad car. And they do work a set schedule, somewhat. Day/night shift. Would you begrudge them if there's always a cop car at the more$$$ than fast food?
