What do you think the sacrificing of lambs were in the OT? Jesus is called the lamb of God, the spotless, blameless once for all sacrifice for sins. Without His sacrifice something had to die for sins because without the shedding blood there is no forgiveness.

For they invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods. So Israel joined themselves to Baal of Peor, and the LORD was angry against Israel. The LORD said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of the people and execute them in broad daylight before the LORD, so that the fierce anger of the LORD may turn away from Israel.” So Moses said to the judges of Israel, “Each of you slay his men who have joined themselves to Baal of Peor.

Well a lot of words in the older translations don’t mean the same things now, it was a different time. At that time people understood that translation. We speak differently so to get a translation that reflects the times is a good idea. In fact those translations were done for the common people who didn’t tknow latin. I feel like the newer translations reflect the same idea.
