Indeed. His influence was far reaching. I believe he was one of the most influential people in the last century. But unfortunately, that influence was not good. He helped to decay the morals of society. He's not alone and he did not start it but he definitely deserves credit for helping it along in a way that hardly anyone else can claim.

I'm sorry but they did not had to have sex with him. Or were they slaves? Human trafficking? I don't think so. And as far as I know he didn't treat them bad, more like a gentleman.

If it wasn't him it would have been someone else, maybe in another time. He was a pioneer for open up peoples minds. You can't ignore the fact that sex and all of it's variations (between grown up human beeings!) are a part, you can say THE part, of our society. Where do all the babys come from again?

And as far as I know the pornography part was with hustler magazine, and that's legit as well. Again: the women (and men --> playgirl) showing off weren't forced to do what they did.

What I would critizise about playboy is the picture, young women get from magazines like this. But you can critizise our whole society about that point. Role model and stuff. Or "how you have to be". But that goes for men as well.

There are prostitutes who are forced to sell their bodies and their are some who do it by their own will.
So no: saying they had to have sex with him is totally wrong in my eyes. Only if they were forced by physical violence. Even if they signed a contract, they signed it. They wanted glamour, fame and money - and had to pay with sex. Of course they knew.

Show me some real evidence they were forced, I will change my opinion.

many of my american constituents can be prudish. youre right. and you are 100% correct about the muslim migrants losing it when they see women dressed in short clothes [the horror!]. but we arent talking about straight nudity. (BTW, plenty of nude resorts and beaches here in the USA. been to the nude beach several times. there is nothing sexual about them. nudity is NOT porn.

but sexualizing males to the level of which porn has done since kinsey has wreaked havoc on society. you covered the male ideal of a female being warped by pornography (as well as warping females into becoming hypersexualized to satisfy the new males desire), but i want to add that pornography--which hefner helped promote (knowingly or unknowingly) has made males addicted to pornography.

of course, i do not advocate making porn illegal (nor what people do in their bedroom), but porn is destroying traditional human relationships (other factors contribute to this as well). males who become jaded after seeing straight porn daily seek out more and more deviant sex to satisfy their high. why do you think transsexual, bestiality, and shemale porn is so pervasive among straight men? porn addiction is no different than any other drug. hefner contributed to this.

I hope VC does a piece on him, trying to research if he was a Freemason or not and his connections, most likely...I know he had a huge impact on opening the doors for "sexual revolution". I agree with Haich. I wonder if there is some sort of documentation on this like there was of the change in hip hop in the early 90s?

I read this as I would a tabloid report. On the chance that it is at all true, I am struck by how little Hefner apparently profited by gaining the Playboy Mansion but, in the end, losing his ability to simply make love. It's pitiful. With that said, I doubt that Jill Anne Spaulding will be called upon to write his official obituary.
