The previous minimum birth rate in Russia was recorded by Rosstat in 1999 – 1.215 million children. However, at that time, the statistics did not include data on Chechnya and Crimea. If we exclude both regions for the comparability of statistics, then 1.213 million children were born in the Russian Federation last year, Raksha estimates. And this means that the "bottom of the nineties" in terms of the birth rate has been broken: for the same territory, the number of births of children is "an anti-record since the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries," the demographer points out."
