Massive explosion in Deir el-Balah kills 2 people
It’s the second time an evacuation centre has been hit. This time on the western side of Gaza City, in the Shati refugee camp where Palestinians have been taking shelter from Israeli bombardment.
It happened less than an hour ago. Two Palestinians were killed in the massive explosion and a number of wounded were taken to Al-Aqsa Hospital.
People went through a difficult night because of the rain. I saw rainwater-flooded flimsy tents, which were already torn in places due to strong winds.
A look at Israel’s school shelter bombings
We earlier reported that seven people were killed and many wounded as a result of the Israeli bombing of the Kafr Qasim School in the Shati refugee camp in western Gaza City.
This isn’t the first time Israel has
targeted schools housing displaced Palestinians. According to Gaza’s media office, Israel has
bombed 181 displacement and shelter centres to date.
Here are some of the most recent attacks:
- Yesterday, 22 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli attack on a Zeitoun school in the eastern part of Gaza City.
- A strike on the UN-run al-Jaouni School in central Gaza on September 11 drew an international outcry after UNRWA said six of its staffers were among the 18 reported killed.
- On August 10, more than 100 people were killed and 150 others wounded after Israeli forces bombed al-Tabin School, east of Gaza City.
- On August 4, at least 30 people were killed in Israeli air raids on the Nassr and Hassan Salama schools, west of Gaza City, while on August 8, at least 17 were killed in attacks on Abdul Fattah Hamouda and az-Zahra schools, which are also located in Gaza City.
- On August 1, at least 15 people were killed in an Israeli attack on the Dalal al-Mughrabi school in Gaza City, while on August 3, another 16 were killed in the bombing of the Hamama school, also in Gaza City.
About 85 percent of school buildings in Gaza have been damaged since Israel’s war on Gaza began.
