The massive amount of Chinese students in Australia are starting to have an adverse affect on freedom of speech.

Academics being shamed and forced to apologise for saying potentially offensive things about Chinese government or contradict things they said earlier.

Is this happening in other countries who have Chinese university students too?

To me that looks like it is approaching 1/3 university students from China.

Approaching 200 thousand Chinese students at end of 2016. They have money, Australian universities need it due to limited funding from government.
Way too many students from an intellectually barren country - no freedom of thought - will have inevitable results. They go to foreign countries to get a broader education, and then complain when that's working.

I don't think so. The Chinese student population here can't compete with the identity politics of the rest of campus.
