The new Sailor Moon features Usagi and Mamoru's time travelling five-seven year old daughter (It's complicated.) In one scene while they are at Mamoru's apartment (that's her dad), Chibiusa makes the statement that she wants her father to see her the same way he sees her mother. If this wasn't creepy enough, he suggests Usagi leave and Chibiusa stay. Both stay however and Mamoru mentions, while giving her a VERY creepy look, that Chibiusa is "more grown up" than Usagi. It's unusual that he wanted to send Usagi home as they have all shared a bed as a family before so it kind of comes across as Mamoru wanting to do something with Chibiusa that Usagi would not approve of. I'm not sure it was intentional, but Mamoru comes across as a p***phile who wants to molest his own daughter.

Sailor Moon is one of my favorite animes, because, childhood. However, I will admit something is wrong:

Rini, or Mini Moon if you will, has always had a thing for her dad, literally since the anime was created in the 90's. Her, and Serena would always fight for his attention. It wasn't a, "I want my dad to acknowledge me in a family way", it was a, "I want him to notice me as a beautiful female" according to Rini.

And there was even an episode in Sailor Moon Super S where the sailor scouts are curious about some dude Rini is crushing on (that just turns out to be Pegasus) and they follow her all day wanting to see what the guy looks like. They find her leaning over a rail looking at an adult male feed some fish at a lake. The sailor scouts make a mistake in thinking that he's the guy Rini likes, but he isn't. He was just a random citizen that Rini just so happen to be staring at out of boredom. Serena herself didn't have a problem if Rini were to date an older guy, she said and I quote, "Age doesn't matter in love!" Meaning if that random guy WAS actually the guy Rini was crushing on, Serena wouldn't have a problem with it.

Also, Pegasus, the magical white horse, who in human form, is at least 20 years older than Rini, is...clearly an adult. And I remember another episode, also in Sailor Moon Super S, where Serena and Rini's ages were reversed so Rini became an adult, and Serena became a child for 24 hours.

One of Rini's powers is calling upon Pegasus to grant Serena a sword that helps defeat her enemies. Strangely enough, once Rini becomes an adult for a short period of time, she calls Pegasus for his help, yet he doesn't answer. He only answers when she's a child.

Pxdophilia at its finest. Now who wants to talk about how Sailor Uranus, and the Star soldiers keep switching between male and female?

I love Sailor Moon myself and consider season 3 of Crystal to be a work of art, but there's certainly something not quite right with Rini/Chibiusa's relationships.

I wouldn't expect anything good from an anime from the magical girl genre, which is basically about witchcraft.
I've always found the take that magic, as presented in fictional settings, is "basically witchcraft" to be a weird as hell (no pun intended) take.

As someone who's studied various real-world occult philosophies, they bare little similarities to how magic is portrayed in fiction. You might occasionally get an element or two that takes something from the real world it's so far removed that it's something completely different. Especially in magical girl stuff, where it's usually more or less just super powers. Even in grimdark reconstructions, where they could totally play up a possibly demonic aspect of magic.

it's not surprising when you know japans age of consent is 12/13 and its VERY common for older men to pay 12 yr olds+ money to spend alone time with them in bars and stuff.
