Hi I am a 30 year old man with Rh O Negative blood, was wondering if any other people on here suffer from auto-immune diseases, my story begins at 12 years old when I was diagnosed with HSP (Henoch Schonlein Purpura), HSP is a rare auto-immune disease that makes my immune system attack my own body, I had a few flare ups of this through the years which has now resulted in me developing IGA Nephropathy (Chronic Kidney Disease) as my immune system has attacked my kidneys and left me with 25% kidney function, I now attend a renal clinic and have been tested for Lupus which came back positive but the doc says this can sometimes happen and I don't in fact have Lupus. This led me to the following link which I found very interesting:
http://www.steadyhealth.com/topics/lupus-and-rh-negative?page=1
After visiting the above link and posting a few times on there I am now convinced there is some sort of link with Rh negative and all auto-immune diseases, I would be interested in anyone else's knowledge on this and to know if anyone else suffers from an auto-immune disease? What blood type and condition you have? I have tried mentioning this to a number of doctors at various visits to my renal clinic and they don't seem to want to discuss it, I find this really strange as there seems to be some kind of link and I can't help but think they know this but won't entertain any type of discussion with me on the matter. Any response to this thread is much appreciated.

Thanks for this interesting post. I didn't visit the website yet and I don't have a lot to contribute except that I am RH negative and, as you may or may not know, this can be an issue for women in pregnancy.
Similar to an autoimmune condition, Rh disease occurs when the Rh-negative mother's body detects Rh factor in the baby's blood and develops antibodies to protect itself. (The body sees the Rh factor as an infection.) The antibodies cross the placenta to fight the Rh-positive cells in the baby's body. As the antibodies destroy the red blood cells, the baby becomes anemic, which can lead to complications like jaundice, heart failure, organ enlargement and possibly death.
Do you know anyone who has autoimmune disease AND RH positive blood? Maybe you should ask that first.

Maybe the doctors don't want to talk about it because they don't have time or aren't really interested. Most doctors only want to write a prescription and get you out of their office to bring the next money maker in. They aren't doctors to "do no harm" but are in it for the title and money.

I also have an autoimmune disease but I would rather not disclose it here. My Mother has rheumatoid arthritis (don't know her blood type).

I have O- blood. I have psoriasis and crohns. And I had shingles when I was 10.

All of which are autoimmune disorders I believe.

Crazy.

Hi Grateful Servant thanks for your response, yes I am aware of the Rh negative bloods effects on pregnant woman as I have an older brother who is 20 months older than me who has positive blood I have had some discussion on this in the link I posted in my original post, my mother is RH negative also and had to have the injection while pregnant with my older brother, In the link I have posted in previously everyone who has an auto-immune disease is RH negative who has posted there that's why I have asked for anyone who has an auto-immune disease to state their blood type wether be + or -. I attend a renal clinic therefor the doctors always have time to sit and chat to me about my condition at the next appointment I will raise the fact that there is a high number of people online who have auto-immune diseases and they all seem to have the negative blood type to see what response I get if any. It just seems like it should be common knowledge if auto-immune diseases are only affecting Rh negative people and the fact that it isn't makes me more curious to understand it all in more detail.

Do you know of anyone who has RH + and an autoimmune disease? What if everyone who is RH negative with autoimmune could be cured with simple treatments of RhoGAm? As it stands there is TONS of money to be made off people suffering autoimmune diseases. My mom got a prescription for her arthritis that costs over 750 for 2 month supply - and insurance doesn't cover it! So who knows... maybe they know it could ALL be easily prevented but.. greed. (I hate that I even think of that, God help us). Please let us know if you hear anything else.

I have yet to find someone who has Rh positive with auto-immune disease all the people who seem to post have negative blood, part of me thinks that they have discovered down the line that something causes auto-immune diseases in RH negative people maybe some sort of vaccination i.e. TB or measles shots etc as these seem to manipulate the immune system and that's why now it would cost to much for this to be revealed to the public as so many people are now affected by it, this is just my thoughts as in the uk now they don't tell you your blood type and say that they only test for that if they have to, I would have thought this is something that would always be on your medical record from birth, I would love to hear from someone on this thread if they have positive blood and auto-immune disease, I am now on 3 types of blood pressure tablets and will most likely be on them for the rest of my life not sure how much profit myself alone will generate for the pharmaceutical companies.

You gave me more to think about and the rabbit hole goes deeper.

Goodness infinite truth you are on to something! Was always interested in why certain ethnic groups have more autism spectrum disorders perhaps it is the same thing with auto immune disorders.

Hi. My Dad is O-, but doesn't have any auto immune problems. Like my son and daughter he is well on the aspergers scale, although not officially diagnosed. (Oh. My husband says he doesn' t think the aspergers skipped a generation. ho ho ho .) Only my Dad is O- out of all of us with diagnosed Asperger traits

I have the Rh+ blood type but suffer from an autoimmune disease called psoriatic arthritis. I saw that many of you have been curious to whether autoimmune disease is only found in people with the Rh- factor, so I hope my comment helps.

I have no idea what my blood type is but I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome with can incorporate some autoimmune disorders. Be interesting to find out more about this but you would think somebody would have picked up on that like they already know with sickle cell and other illnesses that are more common in different ethnic backgrounds or anything distnguishing but there is a serious lack of research into many illnesses.

Hello,
I am O+, and I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and rosacea along with asthma and allergies. Who knows how it's all connected, but I'm sure there is some sort of link. I do have flares that are similar in nature to fibromyalgia, but no definite diagnosis of it yet. I'm way too young to feel so old.
