Why do you think he needs the time? Does he have some place to be? You gonna bring him a replacement battery when it runs down? Or maybe it’s good enough he has the time for now? I think the watch thing is kinda dumb actually. Even he didn’t know why you gave it to him..but you guys gave each other a pat on the back for it..which probably is the real reason you did it.
How would you help that guy with bezo’s money?
I wasn’t even there Lisa. And my husband came home and told me and thought I’d be mad.
Maybe having the time helps him get to the welfare office or a job interview or the food bank on time. Idk. It was a sweet gesture. And it’s just what’s in my husbands heart. He grew up dirt poor and struggled most of his life. It’s important for him to help where he can. He wishes someone would have helped his mom. Or him. Or us. We were homeless for 6 months. Both working our asses off barely enough money to eat. We get it.
We got a flat tire and didn’t know how we were going to manage to get it fixed because paying for it would have meant we didn’t have the money for our motel room. And not paying for it meant we wouldn’t have had a way to get to work. We went to get the tire and figured we’d try to work something out with the motel later. Some guy at the tire place started talking to my husband about boxing. They talked for like an hour and when we went to pay for the tire they told us the other guy had already paid for us. We didn’t tell him we didn’t have the money or were struggling or anything. That mans gesture kept us housed and enabled us to pull ourselves out of a situation there’s a good chance we wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. If we lost our jobs or our motel room at that point things would have just kept spiraling downwards.
You never know what kind of good you can do in this world and refusing to even try or to write it all of as some cynical “pat on the back” is bullshit. I truly feel sorry for you Lisa. You must have a miserable life. I can’t imagine anyone as bitter jaded and cynical as you finding much joy in anything.
Ps: the church clearly agrees with me on this one since most require or strongly encourage tithing and most of the biggest charities on earth are Christian. So did Jesus.
