He calls the police to get them to move on because like I said the trash piles up and it’s just disgusting. The police will come and send them on their way, so that obviously is their job and they do send them on their way...you can’t just live on a public sidewalk and all that comes with it.

Edit: You can’t live on a public sidewalk until the politician’s let them and then you’ve got filth and disease and nothing to be done about it. We don’t have that yet in our capital city but I’m sure it’s gonna happen here too.
I don't know about America but here (Canada) the homeless are pretty clean (to sleep in shelters you need to take a mandatory shower for example) I have known none who piles up trash either. You are basing your opinion on outdated stereotypes. That or you are just hating for the heck of it.

I’m basing my opinion on real life in the US.

The bottom line is your husband doesn’t HAVE to call the police. He does so because they gross him out. He does so because they inconvenience the image he or his business is trying to portray.

There are very few situations when anyone HAS to call the police. Being inconvenienced or grossed out by the needy is definately not one of them.

“Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’”

Bottom line is that he does have to call the police. He has a business to run and they don’t need to be there in front of his business. The police are ok with coming by and moving them on and it gets solved for awhile and then they come back and it starts all over again. If the police thought it wasn’t their job they wouldn’t come by and do it, would they?

The police are supposed to serve and protect the people. Instead they serve and protect money and by extension business. So I guess if you want to look at it that way it’s their job. But this isn’t a felony Lisa. At most it’s loitering - which is a bullshit law to begin with. And there’s no NEED to call the police. None. I’m not sure how the presence of homeless people prevents your husband from running a business. I suspect it doesn’t. Or alternatively his clientele are just shitty people. I’ve never not entered a business because there were homeless people outside or around. I don’t know anyone who has. Thank god.

Your Bible was pretty damn clear on how to treat the poor. I’m sure this isn’t what Jesus had in mind.

Have you actually been to these cities Lisa? Maybe try and talk to people who actually live there instead of relying on propaganda by Paul Joseph Watson, I’m sure they would tell you it’s a normal place.

Of course there is a growing homeless problem, it’s a result of unrestrained capitalism. We’re all suffering and it’s not just big bad librul cities either. There’s homeless problems in Fairbanks Alaska. I’ve watched drug dealers and prostitutes outside my hotel in Minot, ND and Billings, MT.

Social problems are increasing everywhere, all these small towns have numerous casinos, doesn’t matter where you go this empire is collapsing. It’s just obviously more visible in famous big cities.

Any actual fixes to these issues will be denounced by you and others as “socialist”.

Your hatred for the poor Lisa makes you an anti-Christ.

Lol, I doubt they took the homeless to jail and charged them a felony. They moved them along and then the sidewalk was cleared and hosed down...because like I said, there was filth.

Have ya had a business Jess? Have ya had to run one when the homeless and all their filthiness is outside the business? When you get a business and try to run one with it then you can lecture me.

My husband has a business downtown and has the homeless camp out in front of his business every once in awhile and I’ve seen the filthy mess they’ve made and left behind...so ya I believe PJW’s videos.

I thought it was because people would rather not work because they were either drunkards or drug users and maybe some of them have mental problems?

I thought our taxes go to solving these problems anyway? Seems to be getting worse and not solved.

Lol, when did I say I hate anyone?

Actually I do own a business with my husband. Which I help him run. I managed my fathers business when I was in college too. We - me my husband my parents - just have an entirely different outlook on life then you apparantly. I’ve never even passed a homeless person by without trying to help them in some way, the idea of calling police to get their undesirable person out of my way would have never even occurred to me, it’s vile.

What does filth even mean?

And how exactly is the presence of homeless people impacting your husbands ability to run his business? Are your customers so damn shallow? Or is it just you using them as an excuse?

Now homeless people are homeless because they are drunk or on drugs... are you sure you read that bible Lisa?

Around 44% of homeless people were employed. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development's 2008 Annual Homeless Assessment Report, the most common demographic features of all sheltered homeless people are: male, members of minority groups, older than age 31, and alone.

Filth, garbage, food. The homeless are not clean people and after awhile you can’t put up with the garbage anymore..or the drugs. Ya, some of them are homeless because they are drunks and they do drugs.

SOME being the key word Lisa. And bring a drunk or an addict is a disease, not a moral failure.

How are they supposed to be clean when they have no home to shower or bathe in? Don’t you think an easier option to your issue would be to put some garbage cans around?

And again how does any of this impact your husbands ability to run his business?

You honestly just seem like the most heartless person I’ve ever conversed with in my life. Not a shred of empathy apparant in any of these conversations. Not a shred.

Did you actually read the Bible Lisa? My mom did, she walks around areas with a lot of homeless people and hands out care packages a couple times a year, with toothbrushes and socks and fucking designer chocolates..(because we all deserve a treat once in a while ya know?) she taught me from a VERY young age that when you see a homeless person, treat them well and give them what you can - food, money, aforementioned care packages - because you never know if it’s an angel or god in disguise, and you never know if one day you might be sitting there in the same position as they are praying someone gives you two bucks to get something to eat.

You don’t care about immigrant children being tortured. You don’t care about the plight of the homeless except for your NIMBY bullshit. You would begrudge the poor a soup kitchen... I mean honestly other than yourself and your family what do you care about?

Because they will throw it all away in the garbage..ok. The last time the homeless camped out in front of the building one lady said they would clean up the trash if they were given a garbage bag and so a garbage bag was given. She cleaned up and it was all good until the next day and they didn’t clean up anymore.

Isn’t it sort of a moral failure? You’ve done something wrong and you can’t get out of it. Probably didn’t happen over night but you didn’t stop and now you have bigger problems.

The catholic charities is around the corner where they can shower. But I mostly meant that they had a lot of garbage, you wouldn’t think the homeless could get so much garbage or would want to lug it all around with them but they do...

I think they do all right with the soup kitchen around the corner...they aren’t starving. The thing is that you can give them hand outs but that’s only going to keep them in the situation they are in. It’s not going to get them out of it so it’s just continuing a cycle. I don’t begrudge the homeless a soup kitchen..I just don’t think it helps them.

If I really thought the kids were being tortured...but they only are now that trump is president. Everything is horrible now that trump is president lol! I don’t think it’s all that bad. And I don’t see why I’m mean because I think the police moving along the homeless so a sidewalk can get cleaned up and hosed down is wrong. Even this thread..you and your ‘trump helped make it bad here’...

if these homeless are deterring his clientele from visiting his establishment, its a problem.
if someone owned an ice cream shoppe with a lot of homeless people around, i would consider it before going there with my kids. the reality is that many of those homeless people are drug users and/or mentally ill. it would be a similar situation if there was a tavern next door. having drunks stumble out of the bar is not the environment id want my kids to be exposed to.
i support the homeless` right to be homeless, but not when it infringes on others. if there were only a few homeless around the business and they were behaving themselves like any other citizen, i dont have a problem with it.

You didn't say that you hate anyone, but you seem to have no empathy. It is very unbecoming.

If you want homeless people to stay away from a certain area why not just talk to them and explain that. Help them find a more suitable place, perhaps they just want a drink of water or a bite of food. They are humans, they are capable of reasoning and most times are understanding.

There are many ways to get what you want without involving force or humiliation. A bit of tact an empathy will suit us all

One day you might be int here shoes, and you might wish someone had given you the time of day. We all need to be gracious. It could have been you or me in those streets. You never know!

But I do understand your point of view. I hear you.

Are you wanting to be gracious because it could be you in those streets or because you actually care about the homeless?

Empathetic to what? That they are homeless? Like I said many are homeless because they are addicts. I wish they wouldn’t be addicts, that’s the most empathy I can offer. I feel for the mentally ill but idk much about mental illness and homelessness so I can’t really argue as to what is available to them. I think if you’re homeless due to addiction then you are very far into drugs/drink and it’s hard to get a person like that turned around.

Talk to them and explain what exactly? That you’d like for them to move to someone else’s sidewalk? The police have more authority and could do that more effectively than my husband.

Like I said there is a soup kitchen a few blocks away..so food is not an issue and a catholic charities place where the homeless can go also a few blocks away...and the reasons there are a lot of homeless people near my husbands building. Plus at night the city puts most of them on a bus in the winter and puts them up somewhere and then buses them back in for the day. But, like I have said before..this only continues a problem and doesn’t really solve the problem of homelessness or addiction.

While many homeless do struggle with addiction it’s not anywhere even close to being all of them or even a majority.

Homelessness can be solved if it we didn’t waste trillions fighting religious wars, but I’m sure you and your husband would bitch about the spending and call it socialist.

You call yourself a Christian but show nothing but disdain for the poor.

The ones I’ve seen downtown...ya its a majority.

I’m not sure what you mean by fighting religious wars? How do you think homelessness can be solved?

Are the homeless poor or are they homeless due to their own choices?

Well it seems that you have made your mind about how you feel. I respect you. I wish you and your husband the best.

I pray that you can soften your heart to the needy and the down trodden. I wish you the best.
