Sorry but there are countless studies that show no link between video games and violence. Here are just a few.

Also Trump is an idiot to say that he disapproves what his kid is watching but lets him watch anyway.

And I used to play video games all the time while growing up but never had any academic problems and graduated at university.

There are many games that are educational and really make you think so lumping them all in the same bag is too simplistic.
"scientific" studies are bought and paid for every day. to me they mean nothing. Trust Your Instincts.

That's the issue with these pathos filled stories they don't take into account the majority but focus on the outliers, the extremes, to prove a point. I was a religious World of Warcraft player all through high school and the only thing it stopped me from doing was all the high school girls. If I
aggressive or angry it was because of puberty but I became an adult weigh priorities that second include $15 a month for a subscription and a $2000 rig.

If anything video games fill a void.
but should they be used to fill a void? a lot of kids are running to screens to deal with their emotions, i think thats what makes it so dangerous.

Video games are like anything else; too much of something is never good. Personally, I play video games for two reasons; relaxation and socialization.

In the case of the former two, I take care of a parent whose in poor health and has dementia. They really can't be left alone so I have a lot of free time on my hands. You could argue that I could read, but if you give me a book, hours pass and I forget the world exists... Video games? Not so much, not matter how immersive a game can be. It let's me detach myself, at least for a little bit and decompress.

The socialization aspect is forums, discord, or in-game chat. I'm currently playing a lot of Final Fantasy XIV, a MMO, and it let's me talk to people which gives me some form of interaction that I normally wouldn't get since... You know. Full-time caretaker.

Everything is good in moderation.
but on this socialization aspect, is it really socializing if it's done virtually? my fear is that these kids won't be able to communicate with each other, face to face

i think the real trouble is for kids. starting as babies they are sticking them in front of cartoons i.e. baby einstein. there are many people who think kids should not even learn to READ until age 8, because before then their minds are not ready for abstractions. kids that young are supposed to be dealing with concrete objects and learn what reality is. my fear is that they won't be able to seperate reality from virtual fantasy. i saw a video where a 12 yr old boy had played so much he did not know, between his game and reality, which was which!!

Parents aren't helping them obviously. My mother never assisted me with all my puberty laden emotions and playing games kept me out of trouble. I'm sure there are healthier things but ultimately games are enjoyable to pass the time whether they be on a screen or on a board. Games aren't to blame but parents.

Mobile games are the worst right now. That's what I think we should be paying attention to. I say that because all of the content on these games are time locked. You have a certain amount of energy, or currency to complete tasks. Once that energy runs out, you can't even play the game as much as you want. Unless you spend Real life money.

Regular video games are addictive enough. But these pay to win, and gambling schemes are compounding the fact.

That would be one very dumb thing to do. The ability to read (as well as write) is the main factor that determines how well a child will succeed academically and in the job market. My parents started to teach me how to read at 4, and it helped me tremendously in achieving a lot of things. I also think that kids should start learning how to program at the age of 6. It is one of the best way to increase their problem solving skills and their IQ.

Or you can do your real life tasks in that time period lol nobody is forcing anyone to spend money. Its nothing more than clever marketing and gamemaking that works.

We could now throw a bunch of studies at each other but, let's just go ahead and agree to disagree! :)

well you've hit the nail on the head there. and it's getting worse.
i work in a restaurant i can't tell you how many people plop a cell phone video or game down for a kid as soon as they sit. i'm talking 2 and 4 year olds!! but, mom wants to be on her phone too that's the main thing. what ever happened to talking? shouldn't going out to eat at a nice restaurant be special, and fun?
my parent peers are ALL using screens now to babysit, soothe, and occupy their children with ZERO consideration of the consequences! like how do we even know that these screens are all safe for our eyes, much less our mental health.

i heard a comedian the other day talking about how noisy he and his siblings used to be in the back of the car while going out. he said now he has to keep checking that his kids are still there because they are silent! its creepy as shit! and sad

im sad i never lived in an era before television and a/c when everyone hung out on their porches.
and i know that every generation fears for the next and thinks they're screwed, but, consider the fact that electricity was invented in the last 100 years. what has emerged since then is completely unprecedented against the history of time! so how can anyone possibly know it's safety or impact we cant.

and NEVER FORGET that TPTB want very much for you and your children to become zombies because you will be easier to control. video games, violent movies, vaccines, pesticides, your toothpaste, they are coming at you from every angle they can!
autism rates have skyrocketed what if it turns out to be something simple like HD TV?

welp that's my rant thanks to anyone who stuck with it till the end :) if it doesn't make sense you probably have yet to accept the fact that they ARE very actively trying to kill you :)

also NEVER FORGET that they can't. and they won't. no one has any control or power over you if you don't let them. they will never win because good always wins.
dontya remember disney taught you that? lol
(P.S. they no longer teach that)

I do agree they do not spark violence.

But I do feel it can be an unhealthy addiction, causing the individual to miss out on some life. Especially while young.

Some know how to balance life/gaming, while others develop an addiction that leads to isolation or lack of social skills at least
