I have a friend who has been addicted to games for years, he has not graduated, lost his wife and lives in short money, he just can't stop playing. Addiction in games is no different from drug addiction. Maybe it's even worse, people get aggressive, angry, and in some cases they get violent yes, there are reports of many games-related crimes. Many parents are too soft in regard this issue.

My heart dropped when they said Disney also owned a part of Epic Games. I wouldn't even have thought about Disney being in this but it makes sense. There is a large percentage of children who play this game, so why not dabble into it a little bit Disney? What about that other company, 10 cents? Has anyone heard of them before?

Video games eat the brains of their players...

Sorry but there are countless studies that show no link between video games and violence. Here are just a few.

Also Trump is an idiot to say that he disapproves what his kid is watching but lets him watch anyway.

And I used to play video games all the time while growing up but never had any academic problems and graduated at university.

There are many games that are educational and really make you think so lumping them all in the same bag is too simplistic.

Alot of anything is dangerous, whether its games, movies, TV shows or even candies. Blaming games is the easiest way out for the people who don't want to admit that they are failure as people. Video games is a media which has its own different genre, lumping them all together is stupid.
Not only that but like Helioform said, there are countless studies that have shown that video games have no effect on individual violence.
There are millions of kids who play games around the globe, but when 1 or 2 goes wrong suddenly the entire media is bad?

Then again any country that considers gun ownership as a right and healthcare as a privilege is already beyond saving, Know the media you are criticizing, before you criticize it.

And again Ben is smart guy but that argument along with this video is the epitome of being dumb. All of these games with graphic content are for adults. GTA specifically says 18+ so maybe control your own breed?

Its almost like someone playing an erotica or porn that specifically says 18+ infront of his kids and then saying that these things shouldnt be watched by kids.

That's the issue with these pathos filled stories they don't take into account the majority but focus on the outliers, the extremes, to prove a point. I was a religious World of Warcraft player all through high school and the only thing it stopped me from doing was all the high school girls. If I
aggressive or angry it was because of puberty but I became an adult weigh priorities that second include $15 a month for a subscription and a $2000 rig.

If anything video games fill a void.

I didn't say the fact that they are bad guys surprises me. I said I was surprised they were involved in this but it made sense because of the fact that they are indeed "bad guys."

Games are designed to be addictive...they want to sell 'em and that's how you can sell more. I imagine they'll only become more addictive with time. That's not to say everyone will be an addict...but some may be more prone than others. Just like Facebook was designed to be addictive...it's how they make money.

Video games are like anything else; too much of something is never good. Personally, I play video games for two reasons; relaxation and socialization.

In the case of the former two, I take care of a parent whose in poor health and has dementia. They really can't be left alone so I have a lot of free time on my hands. You could argue that I could read, but if you give me a book, hours pass and I forget the world exists... Video games? Not so much, not matter how immersive a game can be. It let's me detach myself, at least for a little bit and decompress.

The socialization aspect is forums, discord, or in-game chat. I'm currently playing a lot of Final Fantasy XIV, a MMO, and it let's me talk to people which gives me some form of interaction that I normally wouldn't get since... You know. Full-time caretaker.

Everything is good in moderation.

Someone I knew was addicted to gaming and I think it's a little bit of both. He had health issues, both mental and physical, which made him not have energy to do much but play games and thus his life sucked and only left the gaming. So yeah, probably mainly people with problems of some kind who bc of them cannot participate in real life. But they are MANY, feels like most people don't give a shit about life anymore and just want to sit closed up in a dark room and play.

I'll never understand it. Especially not when the sun is shining and there's going bathing at sea, shopping, seeing friends, working out, travelling out there.. Why close up like that? Are they tired of life?

Girl you know a person with every mental disorder and a physical disability on the planet.

Maybe some people just like playing games, like others like watching movies etc. Its a way of passing time, a hobby. While i do realize some people get too addicted but then again there are people addicted to eating washing powder.

I think seperately, they might give people a push to become violent, IF they have very violent tendecies to start with. Personally I also don't understand why playing a game is more harmfull than seeing violence escalating in series, television... Also, correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think many games use explicit images of r*pe, while it's become a constant, almost normalized crime in popular series and movies.

your friend was already a failed person from the jump. not be mean or anything but there has to be a lot of underlying complex issues that went on with him that stem from a lot of self esteem, anxiety, insecurity, family or external involvement that deprived him of having the kind of growth needed to be at least an average functioning adult. For him to throw his entire life into games like that there has to be more to it.

but then again depending on the genre it can have harmful affects if not played wisely. Video games, personally for me, have been beneficial. It was an escape through some dark times in my life and helped me develop quick problem solving skills as well as improve my vocabulary or creativity depending on what I was playing. Plus it was a great bonding and cultural experience if I could play with others. I never got into any type of gaming like world of war craft, league of legends, or anything that was a extreme pull to unstable geeks or people with an unknown tendency to addictive behaviors to abuse it. I play final fantasy brave exvius (it's a mobile app game that is really popular) and I say some of those players need to get it together as they shell out big amounts of real life money on it. but it's a gacha game that is forever updating and progressive (even though the quality has went down now). I spent about $30 on it (which to some degree is a waste, but for myself I would have wasted the money on something more frivolous so I'm not hurt about it) and won't spend a penny more, I play whenevr I can to make my money go to use. The money did go to use in the long run for what I wanted but Gacha games like FFBE are kinda like gambling and I wish people would realize that.

but yeah gaming can be dangerous and have evil content put inside .

How do you all feel about the assassins creed series?

true. maybe it's just me but I haven't played a console game or any literal video game in years as I grew up and grew out of it. But I was a heavy player when I was a kid and teenager. But I lived in a house hold where some sense of reality was always present and my parents would eventually get sick of me gaming and making me stop lol. I think you're 100% right. games like social media just make people who are already more prone to that become addicted to games.

but some games if not most I tend to stop after I completed it. I don't replay it if I got the full story mode done and whatever.
so I think we have to look at what types of games are locking people in. Cause rpg and multi-player seem to be the worst.

I've most played linear games or story base games. gta vice city (open world and still story based) karate and fighthing games (virtual fighter, wwe, boxing etc) fantasy (spyro the dragon, final fantasy, soul caliber [still fighting but fits]) then racing games [need for speed]. Games I played required or always involved another person or me having to think or use strategy. I find that games that people become heavily addicted to aren't games that can be enjoyed by a mass variety. Like GTA may be addictive but there is nothing in there that would spawn that unless you are addicted to running the people over, the mini games or the music, even then the game runs it course unless its the GTA V. Pong has been addictive for me recently but after a while I stop it's a good mental work out.
