Hi,

The next interpretation is an attempt to unravel the hidden meanings behind the sayings in the Gospel of Thomas. This sayings gospel was discovered among the Nag Hammadi writings found in Egypt 1945. They had presumably been buried there after the Bishop of Alexandria condemned all apocrypha in his 39th Festal Letter. The majority of codices found at Nag Hammadi are generally considered Gnostic. Although for some scholars [some even go as far as to claim it is not Gnostic at all, ie. Paterson Brown] the presence of the Gospel of Thomas among them is the only indication that it could be qualified as such. The sole remaining indicator of possible Gnostic authorship would be the use of the words "secret" and "mysteries" (saying 62) when referring to Jesus' teachings, considered typical Gnostic rhetoric.

The next interpretation has been made possible by the extensive research into Gnostic literature as well as comparative studies of ancient religions and myths, providing a more accurate context in which Gnostics during Early Christianity used to interpret the teachings of Jesus Christ. The lack of the right context has led many researchers and scholars astray in determining the hidden meanings of scripture. The sayings contained within the Gospel of Thomas are allegedly independent from one another, lacking any coherent narrative. The sum of all these uncertainties are cause of continuous debate in the academic world about whether or not this gospel can rightfully be called Gnostic.

The next interpretation should settle it once and for all.

(Before continuing, it is recommended to read this article first as it will offer a more academic and biblical background to the understanding of the Gospel of Thomas. Those who have already read it, feel free to carry on.)

Introduction

Gnostic theologians had the habit of construing their scripture on multiple levels and their interpretation of the Gospel of Thomas will be rendered here on a mystical one. They are no longer among us to transmit their teachings themselves, but descriptions by early church fathers, enriched by the recently discovered manuscripts of Nag Hammadi, enable us to reconstruct much of the context in which they interpreted this gospel.

More detailed explanations will be given separately as to not clutter this text. For now however, and for readability’s sake, it seems necessary to clarify an important point:

Contrary to popular claims by experts of Gnosticism, it is not a system opposing two entities, a dualism where a good and evil god endure in an endless confrontation. It in fact denounces and demands us to escape this prison of duality trapping our spirits in the realm of Justice, between the just and unjust god, in order to access the “third” heaven, that of the original Fullness, of the Good Father revealed by Christ.

Gnosis therefore develops a threefold vision of the spiritual world or what Gnostics call Tripartition. It regards all aspects of reality as a result of this primordial trichotomy. This tripartition is found in humankind (everyone’s place in the tripartition is not innate, but depends on his response to the Word of Christ according to the Tripartite Tractate), in the church and every individual internally divided by it. There are equally three levels of revelations in the teachings of Christ, three levels of reading the Scriptures, the highest one being their interpretation.

As aforementioned, the first two dimensions, the just and the unjust, are bound and form a cage from which we must seek to escape. Only the dimension of the Father, the “third” dimension, that of Forgiveness, is redemptive. Gnostic redemption comes with detaching the Just from the Unjust dimension and reunite it with the dimension of the Father to restore the original Fullness (Gr: Pleroma).

Dimension of Anxiety
Born of the ignorance of the Father

At the lowest level, the dark side of the second dimension, we find the earth (in the sense of ‘dirt’), matter, realm of the “prince of this world” (John 12:31, 14:30).

This dimension unfolds as follows:

It is headed by the Prince of this World: Satan.

Satan’s offspring is Cain = carnal soul (Gr: hylic), present in all human beings.

Satan’s law: deceit and revenge, aspects of the old law.

Satan’s clergy: the Pharisees.

To continue to exist, this dimension of anxiety must remain linked to the second dimension, dimension of ignorance.

Dimension of Ignorance (of the Father)
Born of Sophia’s Passion for the Father

This dimension was created by the primordial tear with the original Fullness, due to the fall of Sophia. This tear is more commonly known as the separation of Heaven and Earth, a reoccurring cosmogonic concept in many religions and myths. This is the medium dimension, the sky, realm of the Demiurge, the Divider (of Heaven and Earth) and creator of the material universe.

Important: a thorough reading of gnostic literature reveals that the Demiurge, El or Elohim in the Bible, is the first god of the Old Testament, while the Lord (YHVH) is his son or one of his aspects.

This dimension unfolds as follows:

It is headed by the demiurge whose ignorance of the Father gave birth to anxiety, which makes him the father of the Prince of this World.

His offspring: Abel = psychic souls who are “called” by the Living Father so they would return to Him. The whole of these souls represent the fallen Sophia, Christ’s wife lost in matter.

His law: law of the Old Testament, just but imperfect because established in ignorance of the Father.

His church: that of the old law.

The demiurge, sometimes described by Gnostics as a lion, is ignorant and blind, but will eventually be converted by Christ (keep this in mind for logion 16). This conversion of the demiurge will correspond with the conversion of the old laws to the new: Christianity.

At the end of time, the demiurge, often designated by Gnostics as the All, God and even Father as well, will return with his “new church” to the original fullness of the Living Father. But the Prince of this World, knowing he was born of ignorance of the Father, also understands that the restoration of all souls to the Pleroma will accompany his own dissolution and thus tries to maintain the souls in, or bring them back to, the old law. Hence a struggle ensues between Satan and his father, the Demiurge. A battle that will culminate in an apocalyptic war in the end of time.

Dimension of the Living Father

Finally, the third dimension, the original Fullness; dimension of the Trinity Father-Mother-Son: of the God unknown before the coming of Christ and the Gnostics’ true Father.

This is the only redemptive dimension, transcending the struggle between the previous two. To this area belong the elect, gnosis, the interpretation of Scripture, the spiritual soul (Gr: pneumatic). Offspring: Seth.

In Gnosis, to restore this cosmic disorder, that which has been separated from the Fullness by the Tear (fall of Sophia) must be mended. It is when the second and third dimensions are joined that the Fullness will be reformed; and it is by turning all called souls to their inner Christ that this cosmic disorder would be undone and the Kingdom of God restored.

Notice: you can optimize the effect of the interpretation by clicking here for the original text, for those unacquainted with it or those simply seeking to refresh their memories. You can also use the translation and interpretation side by side and try to guess the mysteries one saying at a time. Those feeling familiar enough with the gospel, do carry on!

More information will be gradually added for each saying, which you may access by clicking on the respective Logion #.

GOSPEL OF THOMAS
(A Gnostic Interpretation)

When the interpretation is to a text
what the third dimension is to an image

These are the secret sayings that the living Jesus spoke and Didymos Judas Thomas recorded.

Logion 1

And he said, “Whoever discovers the interpretation of these sayings will not taste death.” (death = old law)

Logion 2

Jesus said, “Those who seek (the interpretation of these sayings) should not stop seeking until they find. When they find, they will be disturbed. When they are disturbed, they will marvel, and will reign over all. (he will be beyond the Universe. All / the All = everything outside of the original Fullness; dwelling in ignorance before the coming of Christ) [And after they have reigned they will rest.]”

Logion 3

Jesus said, “If your leaders say to you, ‘Look, the (Father’s) kingdom is in the sky,’ (paradise / religion) then the birds of the sky (the psychic souls / those capable of faith) will precede you. If they say to you, ‘It is in the sea,’ (the material world) then the fish (carnal / material souls) will precede you. Rather, the kingdom is within you (inner Christ) and it is outside you (the Father).

When you know yourselves (know the Son / inner Christ), then you will be known (by the Father), and you will understand that you are children of the living Father (the true Father, transcending the creator of the material universe). But if you do not know yourselves, then you live in poverty (in matter / death), and you are the poverty.” (you are but matter)

Logion 4

Jesus said, “The person old in days (a priest or sage of the old law) won’t hesitate to ask a little child seven days old (an accomplished Gnostic, an elect) about the place (spiritual level) of life (the highest one), and that person will live (he will be converted to the living Father). For many of the first will be last, and [they] (the old person and little child = old law and new law – or from another perspective – soul and spirit) will become a single one.” (one church)

Logion 5

Jesus said (to his disciples), “Know what is (revealed) in front of your face (the resurrected Christ), and what is hidden from you (the living Father) will be disclosed to you.

For there is nothing hidden (by the scribes and Pharisees / by religion) that will not be revealed. [And there is nothing buried that will not be raised.”]

Logion 6

His disciples asked him and said to him, “Do you want us to fast? (physically) How should we pray? Should we give to charity? (spiritual charity = preaching) What diet should we observe?” (in terms of scriptures)

Jesus said, “Don’t lie (about the Father), and don’t do what you hate, because all things are disclosed before heaven (before Jesus). After all, there is nothing hidden (by the scribes and Pharisees) that will not be revealed, and there is nothing (not even Satan) covered up (by scripture) that will remain undisclosed.”

Logion 7

(Logion summarizing the encounter between the old law and gnosis)

Jesus said, “Lucky is the lion (demiurge / old law) that the human (Jesus / gnosis) will eat (to bring it alive – see logion 11), so that the lion becomes human (becomes alive spiritually). And foul is the human (Jesus / gnosis) that the lion will eat (kill / crucify), and the lion still will become human.” (the old law will be made alive and become the new law, Christianity, by incorporating man / Christ)

Logion 8

And he said, The man (Jesus / gnosis) is like a wise fisherman who cast his net (his teachings) into the sea and drew it up from the sea full of little fish (men). Among them the wise fisherman discovered a fine large fish (a true disciple). He threw all the little fish back into the sea, and easily chose the large fish (to whom Jesus would reveal the mysteries). Anyone here with two good ears (anyone capable of interpreting) had better listen!

Logion 9

Jesus said, Look, the sower (Jesus) went out, took a handful (of seeds) (His words), and scattered (them). Some fell on the road (religions), and the birds (psychic souls, capable of faith) came and gathered them (content to eat the seed without worrying about the fruit inside = content with the literal interpretation of the Word of Christ without seeking superior meaning). Others fell on rock (matter), and they (carnal /material souls) didn’t take root in the soil (old law) and didn’t produce heads of grain (sprout skywards /convert to the new law). Others fell on thorns (bad branches, scribes and Pharisees), and they choked the seeds (extirpated the hidden meaning of the living Word of Christ) and worms (those that feed on the literal, rigid, dead sense of scripture) ate them. And others fell on good soil (soil prepared by the Holy Spirit), and it produced a good crop (Christianity): it yielded sixty per measure (the “called”, those of Faith, Christians) and one hundred twenty per measure. (the elect, those of gnosis)

Note: the “thirty(fold)”, “sixty(fold)” and “hundred twenty / hundred(fold)” present in both the apocrypha as the canonical gospels [Matt 13:8; 13:23, Mark 4:8;4:20] represent the three levels of teachings, respectively the one given to those of the old law, the one for Christians and the one reserved for those able to hear the mysteries, Gnostics.

Logion 10

Jesus said, “I have cast fire (the Truth / Judgment) upon the world, and look, I’m guarding it until it (the world) blazes.”

Logion 11

Jesus said, “This heaven (the visible heaven, in this world, the heaven of Satan) will pass away, and the one above it (heaven of the demiurge, creator of the cosmos and father of Satan) will pass away.

The dead (those remaining in the old law) are not alive, and the living (those who know the Living Father in the Fullness) will not die. During the days when you ate what is dead (when you reinterpret the old law), you made it come alive. When you are in the light (the light of Christ / have gnosis), what will you do? On the day when you were one (one Church / when Christians and Gnostics were one: the dead law made alive), you became two (Christians and Gnostics). But when you become two (completely divided), what will you do?”

Note: when Christ or gnosis “eats” you, it makes you alive. When the old law eats you, it kills you.

Logion 12

The disciples said to Jesus, “We know that you are going to leave us. Who will be our leader?”

Jesus said to them, “No matter where you are (in the old law or the new) you are to go to James the Just, for whose sake heaven (new law) and earth (old law) came into being.”

Logion 13

(Logion revealing the three levels of interpretation)

Jesus said to his disciples, “Compare me to something and tell me what I am like.”

Simon Peter (Christian interpretation, interpretation of heaven, the sixtyfold – see logion 9) said to him, “You are like a just messenger.”

Matthew (Judaizing, terrestrial interpretation, the thirtyfold) said to him, “You are like a wise philosopher.”

Thomas (Gnostic interpretation, the hundred twenty) said to him, “Teacher, my mouth is utterly unable to say what you are like.”

Jesus said, “I am not your teacher. Because you have drunk (the Word), you have become intoxicated from the bubbling (living) spring that I have tended.”

And he took him, and withdrew, and spoke three sayings to him (three levels of interpretation). When Thomas came back to his friends they asked him, “What did Jesus say to you?”

Thomas said to them, “If I tell you one of the sayings he spoke to me, you will pick up rocks and stone me (according to the old law), and fire will come from the rocks (final Judgment) and devour you.”

Logion 14

Jesus said to them, “If you fast (physically), you will bring sin upon yourselves, and if you pray (with Jesus / the Father in front of you – see logion 104), you will be condemned, and if you give to charity (spiritual charity = preaching = that which comes out of your mouth), you will harm your spirits.

When you go into any region and walk about in the countryside (to preach), when people take you in, eat (interpret to make it alive – see logion 11) what they serve you (as scripture) and heal the sick among them (those under the old law / death).

After all, what goes into your mouth (that which you will make alive by interpreting) will not defile you; rather, it’s what comes out of your mouth (that which you preach) that will defile you.”

Logion 15

Jesus said, “When you see one (Christ) who was not born of woman (not born of matter), fall on your faces and worship. That one is your (true) Father.”

Logion 16

Jesus said, “Perhaps people think that I have come to cast peace upon the world (change nothing and confirm the old law). They do not know that I have come to cast conflicts upon the earth: fire (Judgment), sword (the Word that cuts, distinguishes between Good and Evil), war (between the demiurge and his son, Satan).

For there will be five in a house (church): there’ll be three (Trinity) against two (demiurge and Satan) and two against three, [but I will convert the – see additional note] father (demiurge) against son (Satan) and son against father, and they will stand alone. (alone = spiritually single = a soul linked to neither Satan or the demiurge, waiting to be reunited with Christ)

Note: although virtually unknown to experts on “Gnosticism”, this aspect of gnostic soteriology where Christ, sent by the Living Father, converts the demiurge and creates a conflict between him and his son, the prince of this world, is clearly present in gnostic scripture.

Logion 17

Jesus said, “I will give you what no eye (spiritual level) has seen, what no ear (level of faith) has heard, what no hand (carnal, material level) has touched, what has not arisen in the human heart.” (the soul)

Logion 18

The disciples said to Jesus, “Tell us, how will our end come?”

Jesus said, “Have you found the beginning (the original Word of Christ), then, that you are looking for the end (return to the original Fullness (Gr: apocatastasis))? You see, the end will be where the beginning is. (it’s in the original Word of Christ where the Fullness is)

Congratulations to the one who stands at the beginning (he who finds the original word of Christ): that one will know the end (the Fullness) and will not taste death.”

Logion 19

Jesus said, “Congratulations to the one who came into being (who is from the original Fullness) before coming into being (in the flesh).

If you become my disciples and pay attention to my sayings, these stones (His words) will serve you (to build your inner temple).

For there are five trees in Paradise for you (Mind, Thought, Thoughtfulness, Consideration, Reason); they do not change (lose their authority), summer (Fullness) or winter (this world), and their leaves do not fall. Whoever knows them will not taste death.”

Logion 20

The disciples said to Jesus, “Tell us what Heaven’s kingdom is like.”

He said to them, “It’s like a mustard seed, the smallest of all seeds (the most difficult to discern of all teachings), but when it falls on prepared soil (by the Holy Spirit / Sophia), it produces a large plant (Christianity) and becomes a shelter for birds of the sky (the faithful).”

Logion 21

Mary said to Jesus, “What are your disciples like?”

He said, “They are like little children (new humans of gnosis) living in a field (a world) that is not theirs. When the owners of the field come (the masters of the world who steal souls and do business with them), they will say, ‘Give us back our field.’ They (the children) take off their clothes (their carnal souls) in front of them in order to give it back to them, and they return their field to them.

For this reason I say, if the owners of a house (church) know that a thief (thief of souls, owner of the field) is coming, they will be on guard before the thief arrives and will not let the thief break (lie his way) into their house (their domain / the church) and steal their possessions (the souls of the called).

As for you, then, be on guard against the world. Prepare yourselves with great strength (the Truth), so the robbers (the Pharisees) can’t find a way (by the old law) to get to you, for the trouble you expect (souls to be stolen) will come.

Let there be among you (in your church) a person who understands (the mysteries of Christ).

When the crop ripened, he (that person, a Gnostic) came quickly carrying a sickle (to cut out the old law which manages the Debt due to Sin) and harvested it (by revealing the mysteries of Christ). Anyone here with two good ears (capable of interpreting) had better listen!”

Logion 22

Jesus saw some babies (those reborn by gnosis) nursing (feeding on the Holy Spirit). He said to his disciples, “These nursing babies are like those who enter the (Father’s) kingdom.”

They said to him, “Then shall we enter the (Father’s) kingdom as babies (being spiritually reborn)?”

Jesus said to them, “When you make the two into one, and when you make the inner (the soul / Sophia) like the outer (the spirit / Christ) and the outer like the inner, and the upper like the lower, and when you make male (Christ, the Husband) and female (Sophia, the Wife) into a single one, so that the male will not be male nor the female be female (but again become “light” by forming one in the Fullness), when you make eyes (of light) in place of an eye (of matter), a hand (of light) in place of a hand (of matter), a foot in place of a foot, an image in place of an image, then you will enter [the kingdom].”

Logion 23

Jesus said, “I shall choose you, one from a thousand (the faithful / Christians) and two from ten thousand (the elect / Gnostics), and they will stand (after the end of time) as a single one (a single church, Sophia and Christ reunited).”

Logion 24

His disciples said, “Show us the place (the spiritual level) where you are, for we must seek it.”

He said to them, “Anyone here with two ears had better listen! There is light (truth) within a person of light (of truth), and it shines on the whole world (and thus not hard to find). If it does not shine, it is dark.”

Logion 25

Jesus said (to the called, the Christians), “Love your friends (the elect / Gnostics) like your own soul, protect them like the pupil of your eye (your spiritual guide).”

Logion 26

Jesus said, “You see the sliver (imperfection) in your friend’s eye (his teaching), but you don’t see the timber (Satan) in your own eye (your own teaching). When you take the timber out of your own eye, then you will see well enough to remove the sliver from your friend’s eye.”

Logion 27

“If you do not fast from the world, you will not find the (Father’s) kingdom. If you do not observe the Sabbath [of the] (*) Sabbath (fast from the world) you will not see the Father.”

* Translation taken from Jean-Marie Sevrin.

Note: English translations read "observe the Sabbath as the Sabbath" which is both illogical in the Gnostic context as well as less in accordance with the metaphoric wordplay of the original Coptic. According to Antione Guillaumon the expression "Sabbath of the Sabbath" signifies "to fast from this world". Sevrin argues it should be interpreted as the "abolishment of the Sabbath". (Sabbath, derived from "to rest, to cease" = "rest / cease the Sabbath").

Logion 28

Jesus said, “I took my stand in the midst of the world (in Jerusalem), and in flesh (as carnal Jesus) I appeared to them. I found them all drunk (of the old law / the world), and I did not find any of them thirsty (who was fasting). My soul ached for the children of humanity, because they are blind in their hearts and do not see, for they came into the world empty (fasting), and they also seek (they search while being empty) to depart from the world empty.

But meanwhile they are drunk (of the old law). When they shake off their wine (their illusions / false teachings), then they will change their ways.”

Logion 29

(Logion where Jesus mocks the vision of the Judaizers opposing Christians)

Jesus said, “If the flesh came into being because of spirit (Christian vision), that is a marvel , but if spirit came into being because of the body (Judaizing vision), that is a marvel of marvels.

Yet I marvel at how this great wealth (the spirit) has come to dwell in this poverty (the body / matter).”

Logion 30

Jesus said, “Where there are three deities (Trinity), in God they are (*). Where there are two or one (the two that become one – see logion 22), I am with that one.”

* taken from the original Coptic version

Logion 31

Jesus said, “No prophet is welcome on his home turf (Jerusalem); doctors don’t cure those who know them (prophets don’t cure their own people).”

Logion 32

Jesus said, “A city (a religion / a church) built on a high hill (the high mysteries) and fortified (through faith) cannot fall, nor can it be hidden.”

Logion 33

Jesus said, “What you will hear in your ear (the one that hears / has faith), in the other ear (the one that interprets) proclaim from your rooftops (of your churches).

After all, no one lights a lamp (keys to the Knowledge) and puts it under a basket, nor does one put it in a hidden place (hidden in scripture, as the scribes and Pharisees do). Rather, one puts it on a lampstand so that all who come (into the world) and go (from the world) will see its light.”

Logion 34

Jesus said, “If a blind person (of the old law) leads a blind person (a Christian void of gnosis), both of them will fall into a hole.”

Logion 35

Jesus said, “One can’t enter a strong person’s (Satan’s) house (synagogue) and take it by force without tying his hands. (the left hand: carnal souls, those of the old law; the right hand: psychic souls, the called) Then one can loot (convert to Christianity) his house (the synagogue).”

Logion 36

Jesus said, "Do not fret, from morning to evening and from evening to morning (between the first and second coming of Christ), what you are going to wear. (after having stripped of your flesh / after having quitted the old law)

Logion 37

His disciples said, "When will you appear to us (when will be the second coming), and when will we [be able to] see you (in Your totality, when will we all perceive Your mysteries)?"

Jesus said, "When you strip without being ashamed (the timber in the eye = carnal/material soul), and you take your clothes (your flesh / old law) and put them under your feet like little children (those reborn by gnosis) and trample them, then [you] will see the son of the living one (inner Christ) and you will not be afraid.”

Logion 38

Jesus said, "Often (for many generations) you have desired to hear these sayings that I am speaking to you, and you have no one else (who knows the Living Father) from whom to hear them. There will be days (between the first and second coming of Christ) when you will seek me (the Word) and you will not find me.”

Logion 39

Jesus said, "The Pharisees and the scholars have taken the keys (interpretations of scripture) of knowledge (of the Father) and have hidden them (by distorting the scriptures). They have not entered (in the knowledge of the Father) nor have they allowed those who want to enter to do so.

As for you, be as sly (φρόνιμο : effective, shrewd) as snakes (scribes and Pharisees) and as simple as doves (gnostics).”

Logion 40

Jesus said, "A grapevine has been planted apart from the Father (the seed of the serpent / Satan = Cain and the Pharisees). Since it is not strong (rejects the Word of Christ), it (the seed of the serpent) will be pulled up by its root and will perish.”

Logion 41

Jesus said, "Whoever has something (Life) in hand (this world) will be given more (Life eternal), and whoever has nothing (is dead, is but flesh) will be deprived of even the little they have (his flesh).”

Logion 42

Jesus said, "Be passersby."

Note: the original text in Coptic reads “Come into being (the new man) as you pass away” (from being the old man)

Logion 43

His disciples said to him, "Who are you to say these things to us?"

"You don't understand who I am from what I say to you.

Rather, you have become like the Judeans, for they love (jealously guard) the tree (source of Knowledge) but hate its fruit (gnosis), or they love the fruit (gnosis / keys of knowledge – logion 39) but hate the tree (the source = the Father)."

Logion 44

Jesus said, "Whoever blasphemes against the Father (the demiurge, creator of the cosmos) will be forgiven, and whoever blasphemes against the son (son of the demiurge = Satan) will be forgiven, but whoever blasphemes against the holy spirit (in gnosis, the Holy Spirit is the same as the Trinity Father-Mother-Son – see parallel comparison of this logion with logion 16) will not be forgiven, either on earth or in heaven."

Logion 45

Jesus said, "Grapes (good fruits / good disciples) are not harvested from thorn trees (old law), nor are figs gathered from thistles, for they yield no fruit.

Good persons produce good from what they've stored up (gnosis); bad persons produce evil from the wickedness (the old law – also see “wine” in logia 28 and 47) they've stored up in their hearts, and say evil things. For from the overflow (drunkenness) of the heart they produce evil.”

Logion 46

Jesus said, "From Adam (the first carnal man) to John the Baptist, among those born of women (born of matter), no one is so much greater than John the Baptist that his eyes (his spirit) should not be averted.

But I have said that whoever among you becomes a child (reborn by gnosis) will recognize the (Father's) kingdom and will become greater than John."

Logion 47

Jesus said, "A person cannot mount two horses or bend two bows.

And a slave cannot serve two masters (the demiurge and the Living Father), otherwise that slave will honor the one and offend the other.

Nobody drinks aged wine (old law) and immediately wants to drink young wine (new law). Young wine is not poured into old wineskins (old traditions / religions), or they might break, and aged wine is not poured into a new wineskin, or it might spoil.

An old patch (old law) is not sewn onto a new garment (new law), since it would create a tear.”

Logion 48

Jesus said, "If two (the Christian and the Gnostic) make peace with each other in a single house (a single church), they will say to the mountain (Satan), ‘Move from here!’ and it will move.”

Logion 49

Jesus said, "Congratulations to those who are alone (alone = spiritually single: a “called” soul no longer “prostitute” of this world and awaiting to be reunited with Christ) and chosen, for you will find the kingdom (when you make one with your inner Christ). For you have come from it (the original Fullness, where you were one with Christ), and you will return there again.”

Logion 50

Jesus said, "If they say to you, 'Where have you come from?' say to them, 'We have come from the light (the original Fullness / Word), from the place where the light (Christ) came into being by itself, established [itself], and appeared in their image.' (Jesus)

If they say to you, 'Is it you?' say, 'We are its children, and we are the chosen (the gnostics) of the living Father.'

If they ask you, 'What is the evidence of your Father in you?' say to them, 'It is motion (of the Mother / Sophia) and rest. (in the Father)’”

Logion 51

His disciples said to him, "When will the rest (the end) for the dead (those of the old law) take place, and when will the new world come?"

He said to them, "What you are looking forward to has come (the Word of Christ), but you don’t know it.”

Logion 52

His disciples said to him, "Twenty-four prophets have spoken in Israel, and they all spoke of you."

He said to them, "You have disregarded the living one (Christ) who is in your presence, and have spoken of the dead. (those of the old law)"

Logion 53

His disciples said to him, "Is circumcision (in the flesh) useful or not?"

He said to them, "If it were useful, their father (the Demiurge) would produce children already circumcised from their mother. Rather, the true circumcision in spirit (separation from the old law) has become profitable in every respect.”

Logion 54

Jesus said, "Congratulations to the poor (poor in spirit = those not drunk of aged wine but have thirst for the new), for to you belongs Heaven’s kingdom.”

Logion 55

Jesus said, "Whoever does not hate (leave) father and mother (the archontic parents, masters of this world) cannot be my disciple, and whoever does not hate (leave) brothers and sisters, and carry the cross as I do (whoever does not carry the faithful), will not be worthy of me.”

Logion 56

Jesus said, "Whoever (the soul who) has come to know (who united with) the world has discovered a carcass (a carnal corpse), and whoever (the soul who) has discovered a carcass, of that person the world is not worthy.”

Logion 57

Jesus said, "The Father's kingdom is like a person who has [good] seed (the Word of Christ). His enemy came during the night and sowed weeds (old law, carnal teachings) among the good seed (the gospels). The person did not let the workers pull up the weeds (carnal souls), but said to them, 'No, otherwise you might go to pull up the weeds and pull up the wheat (psychic souls, souls of the faithful) along with them.' For on the day of the harvest (end of time) the weeds will be conspicuous, and will be pulled up (the carnal soul will be separated from the psychic soul; the old law separated from the new) and burned.”

Logion 58

Jesus said, "Congratulations to the person (the true disciple) who has toiled (carryied the cross = carried the faithful / Christians) and has found life."

Logion 59

Jesus said, "Look to the living one (the original Word) as long as you live (as long as you have gnosis), otherwise you might die (lose gnosis) and then try to see the living one, and you will be unable to see. (Because the original Word will be gone – see logion 38)"

Logion 60

He saw a Samaritan (keeping a rigid, dead literature of the old law) carrying a lamb (a Christian) and going to Judea. He said to his disciples, "Why does he carry (guide / give instructions to) the lamb?" (*) They said to him, "So that he may kill it (deprive him of the original Word, gnosis) and eat (convert) it." He said to them, "He will not eat it while it is alive (has gnosis), but only after he has killed it (took the gnosis away) and it has become a carcass. (observing a rigid, dead literature of scripture)"

They said, "Otherwise he can't do it."

He said to them, "So also with you, seek for yourselves a place (a spiritual level) for rest (in the fullness), or you might become a carcass (incapable of interpreting) and be eaten (converted).”

* Brill of Leiden translation

Logion 61

Jesus said, "Two (the carnal soul and the psychic soul) will recline (during the second coming of Christ) on a couch (in a body); one (the carnal soul) will die, one (the psychic soul) will live (convert to the Living Father)."

Salome (the psychic soul / Sophia - the Wife) said, "Who are you mister? You have climbed onto my couch and eaten from my table (the banquet preceding the “mystical marriage”) as if you are from someone."

Jesus said to her, "I am the one (Christ - the Husband) who comes from what is whole (the Fullness). I was given the things of (the souls belonging to) my Father." (that is why I’ve come for you)

"I am your disciple (I belong to you, I unite myself with you)."

"For this reason I say (to you), if one (a soul) is whole (united with the inner Christ), one will be filled with light (with Truth), but if one is divided (two instead of one), one will be filled with darkness.”

Logion 62

Jesus said, "I disclose my mysteries to those [who are worthy] of [my] mysteries.

Do not let your left hand (of the old law, the thirtyfold) know what your right hand (of the new law, the called, sixtyfold) is doing.”

Logion 63

Note: to understand logia 63, 64 and 65, one must know that money, debt, merchants, interest, etc … are words used by Gnostics to describe the prison in which the demiurge and his archons (the merchants) maintain us through sin. Sin is called “debt” (even in the canonical gospels), usury represents the chains of sin that we cannot dispose of … without Christ.

Jesus said, "There was a rich person (Satan) who had [subdued] a great deal of money (souls). He said, 'I shall invest my money (make my souls labour) so that I may sow (the weeds – see logion 57), reap, plant, and fill my storehouses (synagogue of Satan) with produce (disciples), that I may lack nothing.' These were the things he was thinking in his heart (in secret), but that very night (at the end of time) he died. Anyone here with two ears had better listen!"

Logion 64

Jesus said, "A person (the Living Father) was receiving guests. When he had prepared the dinner, he sent his slave (Christ) to invite the guests.

The slave went to the first (the first Archon = the Demiurge, the “Lord of Debt”) and said to that one, 'My master invites you.' That one (the demiurge) said, 'Some merchants (merchants = those who bind souls with Debt / Sin) owe me money (souls); they are coming to me tonight. I have to go and give them instructions (on the fate of these souls). Please excuse me from dinner.'

The slave went to another (archon, merchant of souls) and said to that one, 'My master has invited you.' That one (the archon) said to the slave, 'I have bought a house (a soul), and I have been called away for a day (a lifetime). I shall have no time.'

The slave went to another (Satan) and said to that one, 'My master invites you.' That one (Satan) said to the slave, 'My friend (an archon / carnal soul) is to be married (with a psychic soul / one in faith), and I am to arrange the banquet. I shall not be able to come. Please excuse me from dinner.'

The slave went to another (a priest) and said to that one, 'My master invites you.' That one (the priest) said to the slave, 'I have bought (by selling my soul = pact with the Devil / Covenant) an estate (the world), and I am going to collect the rent (the wealth). I shall not be able to come. Please excuse me.'

The slave (Christ) returned and said to his master (the Father), 'Those whom you invited to dinner have asked to be excused.' The master said to his slave, 'Go out (of Judaism / the world) on the streets and bring back whomever (is alone / spiritually single) you find to have dinner. (to return to the Father)

Buyers and merchants (of souls) [will] not enter the places of my Father.”

Logion 65

He said, "A usurer (*) (the Lord of Debt / demiurge) owned a vineyard (Judaism) and rented it to some farmers (priests and Pharisees), so they could work it and he could collect its crop (the souls) from them. He sent his slave (a prophet) so the farmers would give him the vineyard's crop. They (priests and Pharisees) grabbed him, beat him, and almost killed him, and the slave returned and told his master. His master said, 'Perhaps he didn't know them.' He sent another slave, and the farmers beat that one as well. Then the master sent his son (carnal Jesus) and said, 'Perhaps they'll show my son some respect.' Because the farmers (priests and Pharisees) knew that he was the heir (of the souls) to the vineyard (of the demiurge), they grabbed him and killed (crucified) him. Anyone here with two ears had better listen!"

* Berlin Working Group translation

Logion 66

Jesus said, "Show me the stone (the inner, spiritual man) that the builders (of the world = the archons) rejected: that is the keystone (the inner Christ)."

Logion 67

Jesus said, "Those who know all (the universe / cosmos), but are lacking in themselves (don’t know their inner self / Christ), are utterly lacking.”

Logion 68

Jesus said, "Congratulations to you when you are hated (by the blind) and persecuted (for your knowledge of the Father); and no place (in the knowledge of the Father) will be found (for them), wherever you have been persecuted.”

Logion 69

Jesus said, "Congratulations to those who have been persecuted in their hearts (in spirit, in gnosis): they are the ones who have truly come to know the Father.

Congratulations to those who go hungry (for the Word of Christ, gnosis), so the stomach of the one in want may be filled."

Logion 70

Jesus said, "If you bring forth (give rise / give birth to) what is within you (inner, spiritual man), what you have (in you) will save you. If you do not have that within you (if you are but matter), what you do not have within you [will] kill you (at the end of time, when all matter will be dissolved)."

Logion 71

Jesus said, "I will destroy [this] house (temple of Jerusalem), and no one will be able to build it [...]."

Logion 72

A [person said] to him, "Tell my brothers to divide my father's possessions (of the old and new law) with me."

He (Jesus) said to the person, "Mister, who made me a divider?"

He turned to his disciples and said to them, "I'm not a divider, am I?" (Divider = Demiurge)

Logion 73

Jesus said, "The crop (the called / Christians) is huge but the workers (the elect / Gnostics) are few, so beg the harvest boss (the Father) to dispatch workers to the fields (to free the souls from the old law / this world)."

Logion 74

He said, "Lord, there are many (called / Christians) around the drinking trough (the source, original Word), but there is nothing in the well (no one has reunited with Christ yet)."

Logion 75

Jesus said, "There are many standing at the door, but those who are alone (the spiritually single, detached from this world / the old law) will enter the bridal suite (for the reunion with Christ – see logion 74)."

Logion 76

Jesus said, "The Father's kingdom is like a merchant who had a supply of merchandise (carnal souls) and found a pearl (a spiritual soul). That merchant was prudent (wise, unlike other merchants); he sold the merchandise and bought the single pearl for himself.

So also with you, seek his treasure (the spiritual soul) that is unfailing , that is enduring (eternal), where no moth comes to eat (that which is old) and no worm (who eats that which is dead) destroys." (the moth and the worm = the scribes and Pharisees)

Logion 77

Jesus said, "I am the light (Truth) that is over all things. I am (one with) all (the demiurge / universe): (because) from me all came forth, and to me all attained (all returned).

Split a piece of wood (probe your soul); I am there.

Lift up the stone (the inner / spiritual man), and you will find me there."

Logion 78

Jesus said, "Why have you come out to the countryside (on an introspection)? To see a reed shaken by the wind (implying futility)? And to see (submit to) a person dressed in soft clothes, [like your] rulers and your powerful ones (merchants of souls)? They are dressed in soft clothes, and they cannot understand truth." (see logion 64)

Logion 79

A woman (a Christian) in the crowd said to him, "Lucky are the womb that bore you and the breasts (the terrestrial mother of Jesus) that fed you."

He said to [her], "Lucky are those who have heard the word of the (true) Father and have truly kept it (in truth for centuries). For there will be days when you will say, 'Lucky are the womb (of Sophia, celestial mother of Christ) that has not conceived (not carnally, but spiritually) and the breasts that have not given milk (not carnally, but spiritually).'"

Logion 80

Jesus said, "Whoever (the soul who – see logion 97) has come to know (has coupled with) the world (matter) has discovered the body (the carnal soul), and whoever (the soul who) has discovered the body, of that one the world is not worthy."

Logion 81

Jesus said, "Let one who has become wealthy (the soul who has found the pearl / the Spirit) reign, and let one who has power (the body / matter) renounce <it>."

Logion 82

Jesus said, "Whoever is near me (the original Word) is near the fire (Life and Truth), and whoever is far from me is far from the (Father's) kingdom."

Logion 83

Jesus says: "Images
(the carnal bodies) are visible to man, but the light (the inner Christ) which is in them (the carnal bodies) is hidden. In the image (Jesus) of the light of the Father (Christ), it <this light> will be revealed, and his image (Jesus) will be veiled by his light. (the Christ)" (*)

* Doresse translation

Logion 84

Jesus said, "When you see your likeness (Jesus), you are happy. But when you see your images that came into being before you (our lost halves, the angels, with whom only the spiritually single reunite in the bridal chamber to recover the original fullness) and that neither die nor become visible, how much you will have to bear!"

Logion 85

Jesus said, "Adam came from great power (matter / the Archon) and great wealth (the Spirit), but he was not worthy of you. For had he been worthy, [he would] not [have tasted] death.”

Logion 86

Jesus said, "[Foxes (Pharisees) have] their dens (synagogues) and birds (Christians) have their nests (churches), but the son of man (Christ) has no place (church) to lay his head (the elect / gnostics) down (and) to rest. (*)

* Berlin Working Group translation

Logion 87

Jesus said, "How miserable is the body (the flesh) that depends on a body (the carnal, material soul), and how miserable is the soul (the psychic soul) that depends on these two."

Logion 88

Jesus said, "The messengers (the angels, lost halves – see logion 84) and the prophets will come to you and give you what belongs to you (your true name, the one by which you are “called”). You, in turn, give them what you have (your true name and unite your two names that are, in fact, identical), and say to yourselves, 'When will they come and take what belongs to them? (When will they come for you?)'"

Logion 89

Jesus said, "Why do you wash the outside of the cup (the body)? Don't you understand that the one (the demiurge) who made the inside (the psychic soul) is also the one who made the outside?" (that’s why one must also “wash” the inside)

Logion 90

Jesus said, "Come to me (the Son), for my yoke (the Father) is comfortable and my lordship (my Mother) is gentle, and you will find rest for yourselves (in the Trinity)."

Logion 91

They said to him, "Tell us who you are so that we may believe in you."

He said to them, "You examine the face of heaven (Jesus / the new law) and earth (old law), but you have not come to know the one who is in your presence (the risen Christ / gnosis), and you do not know how to examine the present moment."

Logion 92

Jesus said, "Seek and you will find (who is in your presence – see logion 91).

In the past (when I was in the flesh), however, I did not tell you the things (the mysteries) about which you asked me then. Now (that I am risen / the Gnostic Christ) I am willing to tell them, but you are not seeking them.”

Logion 93

"Don't give what is holy (the mysteries) to dogs (Pharisees), for they might throw them upon the manure pile. Do not throw pearls to swine, lest they turn <them> into [mud]. (*)

* Berlin Working Group translation

Logion 94

Jesus [said], "One who seeks will find (the mysteries), and for [one who knocks] it (the door to the mysteries) will be opened."

Logion 95

[Jesus said], "If you have money (debt due to the sins of souls), don't lend it at interest. Rather, give [it] (forgive) to someone from whom you won't get it back (expect nothing in return)."

Logion 96

Jesus [said], "The Father's kingdom is like [a] woman (Sophia / Holy Spirit). She took a little leaven (original Word), [hid] it in dough (scripture), and made it into large loaves of bread (the gospels). Anyone here with two ears had better listen!"

Logion 97

Jesus said, "The [Father's] kingdom is like a woman (Sophia) who was carrying a [jar] full of meal (souls). While she was walking along [a] distant road, the handle of the jar broke and the meal (souls) spilled behind her [along] the road (matter). She didn't know it; she hadn't noticed a problem. When she reached her house (returned to the fullness), she put the jar down and discovered that it was empty (she left the souls in anguish, souls that together represent “little Sophia” whom Christ would come for in the material dimension to reunite with)."

Logion 98

Jesus said, "The Father's kingdom is like a person who wanted to kill someone powerful (Satan). While still at (his own) home he drew his sword and thrust it into the (his own) wall to find out whether his hand would go in. Then he killed the powerful one (inside himself)."

Logion 99

The disciples said to him, "Your brothers and your mother are standing outside (outside of the mysteries)."

He said to them, "Those here (to hear the mysteries) who do what my Father wants are my brothers and my mother. They are the ones who will enter my Father's kingdom."

Logion 100

They showed Jesus a gold coin and said to him, "The Roman emperor's people demand taxes from us."

He said to them, "Give the emperor (Satan) what belongs to the emperor (the carnal soul), give God (the Demiurge) what belongs to God (the psychic soul), and give me (Christ / the Father) what is mine (the spiritual soul)."

Logion 101

"Whoever does not hate (leave) [father] (the Demiurge) and mother (matter) as I do cannot be my [disciple], and whoever does [not] love [the Living] [Father and] Mother (Sophia / Holy Spirit) as I do cannot be my [disciple]. For my mother (matter) [gave me falsehood] (death), but [my]true [Mother] (Sophia / Holy Spirit) gave me life. (*) (Truth)

* Thomas O. Lambdin translation

Logion 102

Jesus said, "Damn the Pharisees! They are like a dog sleeping in the cattle (those under the yoke of the old law) manger (scripture): the dog neither eats (interpret scripture) nor [lets] the cattle eat (interpret scripture)."

Logion 103

Jesus said, "Congratulations to those who know where (in the church) the rebels are going to attack (with the old law). [They] can get going, collect their imperial resources, and be prepared (with the Truth) before the rebels arrive."

Logion 104

They said to Jesus, "Come, let us pray (to God) today, and let us fast."

Jesus said, "What sin have I committed, or how have I been undone (to have you pray to God while He is in front of you)? Rather, when the groom (the Husband / Christ) leaves the bridal suite (is no longer with them), then let people fast and pray."

Logion 105

Jesus said, "Whoever knows (doesn’t leave) the father (the demiurge) and the mother (matter) will be called the child of a whore (the Christian church)."

Note: the whore refers to the church, the faithful, community of believers, bedding / worshipping the wrong father (the demiurge instead of the Living Father).

Logion 106

Jesus said, "When you make the two (the psychic soul and the Spirit / Christians and Gnostics) into one, you will become children of Adam, and when you say, 'Mountain (the carnal soul / Satan), move from here!' it will move."

Logion 107

Jesus said, "The (Father's) kingdom is like a shepherd (Christ) who had a hundred sheep (in the original fullness). One of them (Sophia), the largest, went astray (got lost in matter). He left the ninety-nine and looked for the one (looked for Sophia in the material dimension = the psychic souls, souls of the called) until he found (reunites in the Church with) it. After he had toiled (carried the cross = carried the souls of the faithful), he said to the sheep (in the bridal chamber), 'I love you more than the ninety-nine.'"

Logion 108

Jesus said, "Whoever drinks (His Word) from my mouth (the source = original Word) will become like me; I myself shall become that person (the two shall become one), and the hidden things will be revealed to him.”

Logion 109

Jesus said, "The (Father's) kingdom is like a person (the Demiurge) who had a treasure (called souls – see logion 107) hidden in his field (the material world) but did not know it. And [when] he died he left it to his [son] (Satan). The son [did] not know about it either. He took over the field and sold it (made a pact with the priests / merchants of the temple). The buyer (who sold his soul) went plowing (interpreting the old law), [discovered] the treasure (the souls), and began to lend money at interest (began to chain the souls through Debt / sins) to whomever he wished."

Logion 110

Jesus said, "Let one who has found (who has coupled with) the world, and has become wealthy (acquired the keys of Knowledge), renounce the world."

Logion 111

Jesus said, "The heavens (of the demiurge and of his son, Satan – see logion 11) and the earth will roll up in your presence, and whoever is living (spiritually resurrected) from the living (the risen Christ, gnosis) one will not see death."

Does not Jesus say, "Those who have found themselves (their inner Christ), of them the world is not worthy"? (see logion 67)

Logion 112

Jesus said, "Damn the flesh that depends on (is subjected to) the soul (the flesh will be destroyed). Damn the soul that depends on (is subjected to) the flesh. (the soul will be destroyed)"

Logion 113

His disciples said to him, "When will the kingdom come?"

"It will not come by watching for it (according to the prophets’ prophecies). It will not be said, 'Look, here!' or 'Look, there!' Rather, the Father's kingdom is spread out upon the earth (by the Word of Christ), and people don't see it."

Logion 114

Simon Peter said to them, "Make Mary leave us, for females (the called, Christians) don't deserve life (gnosis)."

Jesus said, "Look, I will guide her to make her male (an elect, a Gnostic), so that she too may become a living spirit (spiritually revived) resembling you males (Gnostics). For every female who makes herself male will enter the kingdom of Heaven."

After all, what goes into your mouth (that which you will make alive by interpretating) will not defile you; rather, it’s what comes out of your mouth (that which you preach) that will defile you.”

* Brill of Leiden translation

* Berlin Working Group translation

Logion 66

Logion 73

Logion 82

In the image (Jesus) of the light of the Father (Christ), it <this light> will be revealed, and his image (Jesus) will be veiled by his light. (the Christ)" (*)

* Doresse translation

Logion 84

Jesus said, "When you see your likeness (Jesus), you are happy. * Berlin Working Group translation

Logion 91

(*) (Truth)

* Thomas O. Lambdin translation

Anyone here with two good ears had better listen!
May I at least commend you on your bravery in taking on an interpretation of the Book of Thomas, and there are certainly some original things in it.

But, for objective argument's sake, if we apply Occam's Razor to the two, which states that the simplest answer is normally the correct one, then JAH's must be it, because His is so simple and peaceable, while also gelling perfectly with the other scriptures?

King of kings' Bible James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, [and] easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

Let's not forget that this is an interpretation trying to be in accordance with early Gnostic scripture, which means an interpretation on a mystical level, not a literal (or simple) one.

But thanks for your time.

The Law represents the Demiurge's failed attempt to free human beings from sin. Being ignorant himself, he is powerless to free human beings from the ignorance which is the root cause of sin. According to the Gospel of Philip, the Law "has the power to give knowledge of good and evil. It neither removed him from evil, nor did it set him in the good. Instead it created death for those who ate of it. For when it said, 'Eat this. Do not eat that' it became the beginning of death" (Gospel of Philip 74:3-11). The Demiurge prescribed death for violations of the Law. However, the Law in itself does not prevent sin. Thus, in a way, the Law is a cause of death.

Romans 6
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 7
1 Or do you not know, brothers (for I am speaking to those who know the law), that the law is master of a person for as long a time as he lives?
2 For the married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of the husband.
3 Therefore as a result, if she belongs to another man while her husband is living, she will be called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress if she belongs to another man.
4 So then, my brothers, you also were brought to death with respect to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to the one who was raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God.
5 For when we were in the flesh, sinful desires were working through the law in our members, to bear fruit for death.
6 But now we have been released from the law, because we have died to that by which we were bound, so that we may serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter of the law.

Interesting thank-you.

But both Apostles Paul and Philip were student babes of Christ, and Paul never spent long periods of time with Jesus like the Disciples did, and is thereby notoriously easy to misinterpret (see the King of kings' Bible's interpretation of your Romans-quotes below).

And you can't guarantee that Philip's gospel wasn't tampered with before being released, like it took decades for the Dead Sea scrolls to be released? Why? But nevertheless I'd be interested to see the version that you're referring to please.

So to me Christ: the Gospels, is the final arbiter in all matters of apparent dispute between His followers, and where they appear to differ with Him, which they don't actually in the King of kings' Bible.

King of kings' Bible
Romans
6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under The Law, but under grace.
6:15 What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under The Law, but under grace? God forbid.
6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
6:18 Being then (by the death of "Self") made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the weakness of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to inequity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
6:20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
6:21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? For the end of those things [is] death.
6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting Life.
6:23 For the wages of sin [is] DEATH (Eze. 18:4); but the gift of God [is] eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

7:1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know The Law,) how that The Law hath dominion over a man as long as he (the "Self") liveth?
7:2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by The Law to [her] husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from The Law of [her] husband.
7:3 So then if, while [her] husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to The Law by the body of Christ (and the death of "Self"); that ye should be married to another, [even] to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by The Law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
7:6 But now we are delivered from (the Curses/Penalty Clauses of) The Law, that being dead (to "Self") whereby we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not [in] the oldness of the letter.

8:2 For The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Appreciate your commitment. However, this is about the Gnostic interpretation, not JAH's interpretation. There are many other threads to share your proselytising views. Nothing personal. Thanks for understanding.

The gospel of Thomas is not found in the Bible...so not a true gospel, to which you’re free to use it as gnostic or anything else you like..

Understood, thank-you.

Would you share a copy of your Gospel of Philip please?

The one's I found don't have the numbering you gave: hard to know which to use. Would be nice to compare.

I believe the numeral reference is to Meyer's translation which you can find here. I don't particularly subscribe to one translation though.

Jesus said, “Those who seek (the interpretation of these sayings) should not stop seeking until they find. When they find, they will be disturbed*. When they are disturbed, they will marvel, and will reign over all. (he will be beyond the Universe. All / the All = everything outside of the original Fullness; dwelling in ignorance before the coming of Christ) [And after they have reigned they will rest.]”

1. According to Valentinian myth, one's fate depended on whether one had attained gnosis or not. Those who did not have gnosis were believed to be subject to judgement and punishment by the Craftsman (demiurge) and his associates in the "Middle" (Gospel of Philip 66:7-20). - Realized Eschatology

2a. From the beginning you are immortal and children of eternal life. You wished to distribute death amongst yourselves so as to consume it and annihilate it, and so that death might die in and through you. For when you dissolve the world and are not yourselves dissolved, you rule over creation and over the whole of corruption. - Fragments From Lost Writings of Valentinus.

2b. This is what Valentinus refers to when he addresses the elect: "From the beginning you have been immortal and you are children of eternal life. And you wanted death to be allocated to yourselves so that you might spend it and use it up, and that death might die in you and through you. For when you nullify the world and are not yourselves annihilated, you are lord over creation and all corruption" (Valentinus Fragment 4). The matter of which the world was formed is regarded as identical with ignorance or “death". - Valentinian Creation

3. Moreover whenever Sophia receives her consort and Jesus receives the Christ and the seeds and the angels, then the Pleroma will receive Sophia joyfully, and the All will come to be in unity and reconciliation. - A Valentinian Exposition

4. "Being baptized, we are illuminated; illuminated we become sons; being made sons, we are made perfect; being made perfect, we are made immortal." - Clement of Alexandria, Instructor, 1.6.26.1

5. As also it stands written in the Gospel of the Hebrews: "He that marvels shall reign, and he that has reigned shall rest." - Clement of Alexandria: The Stromatae

Excuse me for carrying on a bit, but I have to say this.

As much as I'd like to read this gospel, Mr. Marvin Meyer's counterfeit "Jew" - the identity theft fraudsters (Rev. 2:9, 3:9), sounding name, is a bit of a red flag?

And it could have been tampered with even before it got to him, and he's innocent of an accusation?

But thanks again. All will be revealed in time, I suppose.

Gospel of Mary Magdalene
34 Beware that no one lead you astray saying Lo here or lo there! For the Son of Man is within you.
35 Follow after Him!

1. inasmuch as they declare that some men are wicked by nature, and some, on the other hand, naturally good,--to point out such differences also among their AEons, and to maintain that some of them were produced naturally good, while some were naturally evil, so that the supposition of the likeness of those things might harmonize with the AEons. Moreover, since there are in the world some creatures that are gentle, and others that are fierce, some that are innocuous, while others are hurtful and destroy the rest; some have their abode on the earth, others in the water, others in the air, and others in the heaven; in like manner, they are bound to show that the AEons possess such properties. - Irenaeus: Against Heresies

2. For He applied the name "fowls of the air" to those who were distinct from the other birds--those really pure, those that have the power of flying to the knowledge of the heavenly Word. - Clement of Alexandria: The Stromata

3. “Say unto them: Renounce thieving, that ye may be worthy of the mysteries of the Light and be saved from the bubbling seas of the dragon-faced [ones]." - Pistis Sophia

4. “If thou goest down into Egypt, And thence thou bring’st the one Pearl – "[The Pearl] that lies in the Sea, Hard by the loud-breathing Serpent" - Hymn of the Pearl

5. Miryai in humbleness prays and proclaims with wondrous voice. The fishes gather out of the sea, the birds from the mouth of Euphrates.
...
When the fishers heard the call, their heart fell down from its stay. One calls to the other and speaks to him: "Go into thy inner ground. For there is the call of the Fisher, the Fisher who eats no fish. His voice is not like that of a fisher, his squbrā not like our squbrā. His voice is not like our voice, his discourse not like to this world."
...
In the bows stands the Fisher and delivers wondrous discourses. [There are] lamps [there], whose wicks shift not hither and thither, and a . . . is not by him. He wears no ring of Deception, and with white robes is he clad. He calls to the fish of the sea and speaks to them: "Give heed to yourselves in the world! Beware of the foul-smelling birds who are above you. If you give heed to yourselves my brothers, I will for you be a succour,—a succour and a support out of the regions of Darkness unto Light's region." -
Gnostic John the Baptizer

Jesus said, “The person old in days (a priest or sage of the old law) won’t hesitate to ask a little child seven days old (an accomplished Gnostic, an elect) about the place (spiritual level) of life (the highest one), and that person will live (he will be converted to the living Father). For many of the first will be last, and [they] (the old person and little child = old law and new law – or from another perspective – soul and spirit) will become a single one.” (one church)

1. We admit that the elect seed is both a spark kindled by the Logos and a pupil of the eye and a grain of mustard seed and leaven which unites in faith the genera which appear to be divided. - Excerpts from Theodotus

2. Tatian also separates the old man and the new, but not as we understand it. We agree with him that the law is the old man and the gospel the new, and say the same ourselves, but not in the sense in which he takes it since he would do away with the law as originating from another God. - Clement of Alexandria: The Stromata

3. Faustus said: We are asked the reason for our denial that man is made by God. But we do not assert that man is in no sense made by God; we only ask in what sense, and when, and how. For, according to the apostle, there are two men, one of whom he calls sometimes the outer man, generally the earthy, sometimes, too, the old man: the other he calls the inner or heavenly or new man. - St. Augustine: Contra Faustum, Book XXIV

4. Ultimately the Old Man, without good works, is the one who cannot jump over the three ditches with the tail of the body. But the chosen New Man has purged the three poisons from the body and has borne in his body the agony caused by observing the Law, and he can endure separation from his dear wife and children and from riches, and on the Final Day his soul will arise from the body and will attain the peace of Paradise. - Parable of the Two Snakes

5. Now when Zacchaeus the teacher heard such and so many allegories of the first letter spoken by the young child, he was perplexed at his answer and his instruction being so great, and said to them that were there: Woe is me, wretch that I am, I am confounded: I have brought shame to myself by drawing to me this young child. Take him away, therefore I beseech thee, my brother Joseph: I cannot endure the severity of his look, I cannot once make clear my (or his) word. This young child is not earthly born: this is one that can tame even fire: be like this is one begotten before the making of the world. What belly bare this, what womb nurtured it? I know not. Woe is me, O my friend, he putteth me from my sense, I cannot follow his understanding. I have deceived myself, thrice wretched man that I am: I strove to get me a disciple and I am found to have a master. - Infancy Gospel of Thomas 7:1-2

6. When he entered into the city of Athens which is called Hellas, 300 philosophers gathered and said: Let us go and see what his wisdom is, for they say of the wise men of Asia that their wisdom is great. For they supposed Philip to be a philosopher: he travelled only in a cloak and an undergarment. So they assembled and looked into their books, lest he should get the better of them.

They said: If you have anything new to tell us, let us hear it, for we need nothing else but only to hear some new thing. Philip: Then you must cast away the old man. The Lord said: Ye cannot put new wine into old bottles. I am glad to hear that you desire something new, for my Lord's teaching is new.* - Acts of Philip

Logion 47

Nobody drinks aged wine (old law) and immediately wants to drink young wine (new law). Young wine is not poured into old wineskins (old traditions / religions), or they might break, and aged wine is not poured into a new wineskin, or it might spoil.

An old patch (old law) is not sewn onto a new garment (new law), since it would create a tear.”

Luke 8
17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.

Luke 12
1 Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, saying: “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2 There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. 3 What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.

Matt 10
26 “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.

32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.

Mark 4
21 He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? 22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”
