What I've noticed about people in general is that they have become more callous and cruel and unfeeling. Maybe movies are responsible. I dont' know. I love movies like The Evil Dead because of utter irony of death.
But I will tell you something: The Western people's religion is TV, the only life they know, everything else is false. I have watched people close to me die, and nobody batted an eyelid. Total lack of emotion.
I once slit my wrists, blood flowing everywhere on the carpet... their reaction is shrugging shoulders and dirtying their carpet. "Replace it, please". This is coming from my own mother and half-brother. Their emotions are DEAD.
