lol why so feisty?
For someone who can't even bother to read the thread you sure do have a lot of venom to spit regarding this topic.
What were you saying earlier? You don't look down on sex workers? Well you sure do, and it's showing.

I personally am for the protection of sex workers, even if everything the woman says in the vice video said doesn't align with my personal beliefs.

And feminism isn't monolithic, there are many different schools of feminism. Two feminists may have totally different opinions on this topic. Does that mean one is better than the other? No, their views differ simply because they may come from dfferent backgrounds, have a different race or different life experiences. I always say I dont identify with mainstream feminism as it is mostly for white middle-class women. I'm well aware that there are sex workes who don't share the same privilege as a white middle-class sex worker who goes into the industry because she doesn't want to work at a minimum wage job, is bored with her life and wants to have new sexual experiences and get paid for it. Yet it still doesn't mean we should belittle the very real risks (r*pe, assault) that they're encountering while being in that industry.

I visited poor countries where girls as young as 12 would go out with grown men and have sex with them - foreigners, in exchange for money because they couldn't go to school and lived in miserable conditions. My heart breaks for these girls, it really does, but who's gonna find a better job for them??...You? Obviously not, but you're here bitching about sex workers wanting to be protected and respected.

I am not bitching about it. I want sex workers to be respected. What i want more is sex to not be commodified. Jesus fucking christ. Women using the patriarchy for their own benefit are not feminist.

Marriage also serves mostly men, after all it's also a patriarcal institution. I've seen far too many women with an uninvolved husband who expects them to take on all the housework, and expects to have his dinner ready and sex on a buffet when he goes home. Doesn't care if his wife is tired or doesn't want to have sex, because if she files a complaint the judge will say sex is her marital duty.

Where did I say I support marriage? Stop assuming my opinions.

You said sex work benefits men, I'm telling you everything under the ptriarchy benefits men. Even marriage that is said to provide women with safety. Women generally enter marriages expecting men to provide money; if we follow your logic does that mean they don't consent to marriage (and the sexual chores that it entails) but just to the money that the man will provide??

uhh if you only agree to having sex with someone in exchange for something else you're literally not consenting to the sex. You're consenting to getting the thing in return. Consent cannot be bought. Humans are not stock.
And yet most women won't get in a relationship and even less in a marriage where a man can't provide for money. And before the prospective husband had to pay a dowry so he could buy the approval of his father in law (in other words buy his wife like chattel). These practices are not as prevalent nowadays but still, it pretty much seems like it's legalized prostitution.
And hook-up culture is worse in many ways since these women get used and don't even get paid, unless the man buys her dinner, which they don't even do now.

What i want more is sex to not be commodified
lol good luck on that. Maybe take your bitterness on the men who commodified the women's body, they're to blame for this mess.

I literally am blaming the patriarchy. I haven't said that it is the women's fault. Can you read? Maybe read some radfem litterature. I will stop answering to this thread now because clearly you have misunderstood my stance on this and I see no point in getting you to understand how prostitution is exploitation of women. If you are able to see how hetero-patriarchal institutions like marriage is fucked up, how do you not see that prostitution/porn/any type of 'sex work' is equally, and even more fucked up? Don't answer that question.
Have a nice day

Wife: government approved, religion approved whore to a man.

No offense to whores though, they are forced to do what they're doing, they either need money or have been trafficked. Which makes them victims of male violence and male perversion.

(I don't know if someone already made a thread on this matter, just thought I would post this.)

"Criminalization makes sex workers more vulnerable to violence, including r*pe, assault, and murder, by attackers who see sex workers as easy targets because they are stigmatized and unlikely to receive help from the police. Criminalization may also force sex workers to work in unsafe locations to avoid the police.

Criminalization consistently undermines sex workers’ ability to seek justice for crimes against them.
They said that they are afraid of being arrested because their work is illegal and that their experience with police is of being harassed or profiled and arrested, or laughed at or not taken seriously. "

"Does decriminalizing sex work encourage other human rights violations such as human trafficking and sexual exploitation?
Sex work is the consensual exchange of sex between adults. Human trafficking and sexual exploitation are separate issues. They are both serious human rights abuses and crimes and should always be investigated and prosecuted."

"Governments should fully decriminalize sex work and ensure that sex workers do not face discrimination in law or practice. They should also strengthen services for sex workers and ensure that they have safe working conditions and access to public benefits and social safety nets."

Yes, but we are dealing with shallow and ignorant populations.

Take Instagram for example, it is just like prostitution. Men and women all over are essentially selling their bodies and likeness to a major corporation. Now that Instagram is altering the "like" system it takes that notion even further. Before that change, at least there was an illusion where users could build some kind of social media brand.

I like how you brought up prizefighters. Because a great many social media users act one part gangster, one part UFC warrior. Of course, I hate to sound crass, but it's like no these fools are total hookers. And sure, In a way, I'm acting in the same fashion, like I got my pimp hand out ready to slap.

Of course, pimp slaps aren't my thing. My appearance is just too flawed to ever look like a proper hooker. Moreover, this isn't disrespecting, it's the reality of the two roles the "culture" has boxed us into. You are either the hooker or the pimp.
You can say prostitution and Instagram are the same thing all you want. Prostitution includes (always mostly women being in a situation where they have no choice but to sell their mind, body & soul to complete male strangers in exchange for money. These women have to deal with the horrible reality of being raped for pay. If they had the choice, I guarantee you they would not be in that “profession.” There’s high suicide and murder rates, most are addicted to drugs, have kids to support as single mothers, have no marketable trades, education, job experience etc. I cannot imagine how it must feel to have to take off my clothes, sexually pleasure strangers (hopefully condoms are used), then spread my legs and have to lie there and deal with some total stranger sexually penetrate me. No wonder they get addicted to drugs and alcohol! Pimps who sexually traffic people after kidnapping them always r*pe them as well, beat them, threaten, intimidate, and abuse their victims. And they usually charge very little, and force those poor, poor females to have to see up to 30 clients a day I heard. That is an absolute nightmare. The government wants to legalize it so them and their buddies will stop being embarrassed and ashamed after being caught in another brothel. Then they can do it freely and legally. They don’t give a crap about the victims!!!!!

Drugs/intoxicants should be decriminalized because the drug dealer either needs it or is forced to traffic drugs

Fraud should be decriminalized because the fraudster is in urgent need of money and is forced to do fraud.

Killing/murdering... should be decriminalized because the killer needs to kill for urgent need of money etc...

r*pe... should be decriminalized because the man was forced to r*pe as he was feeling urgent need for sex etc...

stealing... should be decriminalized

robbing... should be decriminalized
Have you ever had a course on women's history? Did you read some feminist litterature? Women have sold their sexual labor as a means of survival throughout history. So long as men existed they viewed women as property they could fuck and own. This is why we even have sex work in the first place.
In fact marital r*pe wasn't even a crime up until the 70s, because giving her husband sex was a wife's duty. Men created these institutions so they could get sex from women (ie: r*pe women) and ensure their genetic immortality . Women couldn't work so they had to get married. Very young girls had to marry old pigs to survive. Feminism has always posited that marriage was slavery for women and it is.
Just because now we associate marriage with the idea of "love and romance" doesnt erase its origins.

Sex work is a broad term, it encompasses not just prostitution but also camgirls, only fans, porn, etc.. I think that's what the poster meant by saying instagram is like prositution. Although not nearly as bad or as dangerous for women. But a lot of sex workers find their clients through instagram.
The government wants to legalize it so them and their buddies will stop being embarrassed and ashamed after being caught in another brothel. Then they can do it freely and legally. They don’t give a crap about the victims!!!!!
I agree that the government doesn't give a damn about sex workers, becuse they're men themselves and don't give a damn about women. The problem is systemic. The system is rigged and there aren't enough women in power to advocate for other women's safety.

No. They could grab a gat and rob a bank if they are going to break the law... or they could figure out another scam. I am all the way with yall that sex-trafficking and prostitution must be addressed, but there are other options for many of these victims. Although victims of gorilla pimps and other forced coersion situations are a different matter entirely.

Those who pay for sex should be arrested not the prostitute. Drecriminalising prostitution just enables traffickers.
This is why cops go undercover in these services. The good ones anyway. There’s a lot of sickos out there who can and will pry off the innocence of someone else. Quite sad

I think sex workers should be legalized. But at the same time, sex workers shows the failure of the current Government.
In most of the cases, sex worker are umployes with no other option to gain money.

I pretty much agree. But I didn't say Instagram and prostitution were the same. I said they were alike, as in there are way too many similarities. Also, just because someone wasn't literally raped doesn't mean their depression isn't just as deep.

To put it another way, sex workers are among a small field. Conversely, Instagram has millions of active users. In that sense, Instagram is creating far more depression than sex work.

Excerpt from King Kong theory:
People are endlessly trotting the idea that the problem is not moving prostitution away from sketchy neighourhoods
where women are exposed to all bunch of agressions, or establishing the sort of legal framework demanded
by sex workers, but simply banning prostitution.
It's hard not to think that what respectable women are actually saying when tehy express concerns about "whores"
is that deep down, they're afraid of competition. Unfair competition, because it's too effective and too straightforward.
If the prostitute could work in decent conditions, [...] if the legal pressures she currently faces were abolished, the role
of married woman suddenly becomes much less attractive. Because if the prostitutional contract becomes commonplace,
the marriage contract can be clearly seen for what it is; an indenture in which the woman signs up to perform a certain
number of chores at rock-bottom rates, notably sexual chores, to ensure a man's comfort.

Prostitution is illegal not because of its obvious immorality (of which any act of immorality being illegal should be a separate argument) Its illegal because it would be nearly impossible to structure and enforce taxation on money collected as a business, period. Its not like people selling their body would be any kind of legitimate business owner.
