Carrying weight on your back or from your shoulders is NOT healthy.

*Weight that’s carried evenly is healthy - and who ever said they would use backpacks? They can use trollies or whatever they prefer.

That is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. Thats a great way to start a bullying spree.

*It’s a great way to encourage social skill development- besides - modification of environment does not offset bullying- when technology was introduced bullying simply moved online. Many would argue it’s worse now than ever.

In 2007, Gates, the former CEO of Microsoft, implemented a cap on screen time when his daughter started developing an unhealthy attachment to a video game.
He also didn't let his kids get cell phones until they turned 14. It should be telling, Clement and Miles argue, that the two biggest tech figures in recent history — Bill Gates and Steve Jobs — seldom let their kids play with the very products they helped create.

I think Madonna said the same thing about her daughter when she was young. I recall her saying in an interview she wouldn't let her watch TV or go to movies. I came across this and found it a bit congruent with the lockdown and the overemphasis on everything and everyone on technology:

"Spending A Month In Antarctica Can Shrink Your Brain
If you ever take a trip to Antarctica by chance, be sure to do as much socializing as possible with the limited human life down there. According to a New England Journal of Medicine study, if you don't keep your mind active, isolation can do strange things to your brain.

Brain imaging in eight polar explorers before and after 14 months of isolation found that the volume of the part of the brain that makes new memories was lower than the control group. They believed it was because of the long periods of isolation."

And, I might be stating the obvious, but when everything's online, companies own the technology that makes it run. I'm not sure if people are understanding the implications of this. If you're teaching a class with photocopies and books, the learner has the book or copy. Whereas, when it's online and on a (Google) drive, some technocrat owns the platform that's holding information and unfortunately, I can assure you it's not always accessible. I'm hoping people will begin to realize this and soon.

Indeed!. Those technocrats CAN and WILL flip the switch and turn off the power, aswell as restricting access to books online.

The old days bid thee hearken back :D

Where do you think the back problems came from? And carrying heavy backpacks will ruin your body and thats a fact. I live in a country where we don't use ipads and use backpacks and it has been nothing more than years of suffering.

Kids are not meant to carry heavy stuff.
Huh? Seriously? I hope I'm sposed 2 be sensing sarcasm here. Life long injury due 2 backpacks, I've never heard of.

Yes, Madonna did say this b4. Also a whole list of celebs from Rosie Odonnel to Angelina & Brad, even Will & Jada. There kids were limited 2 how much screen time yada yada. Irony?

I would like to know how these schools afford IPADS? I guess since taxpayer funds them. They are very expensive. I have never bought anything from Apple because the stuff is so expensive. So now kids all get IPADS and poor Lizard King has to make do with an Amazon Fire? One thing I bet a lot of these kids graduate with a degree in Pornography and Netflix.

They dont need to find the money for these tech projects. If its a wealthier district, perhaps it becomes more custom-made, but the object is to make sure the masses are distracted/addicted and they now attempt to cut out the possibility of parents cutting the cord. They want 24/7 access to the children.

An article that may be stating the obvious for some but informative, nonetheless:

"10 Downsides to Buying Ebooks Instead of Hard Copies
1. Most Ebook Stores Sell Licenses, Not Books
2. Your Books Can't Serve As Decoration
3. Digital Books Aren't As Easy to Share
4. Distractions Can Make It Harder to Read
5. You (Likely) Can't Support Your Local Book Store
6. You Help Big Tech Get Bigger
7. Online Stores Lack the Magic of a Physical Place
8. You Can't Resell or Donate Ebooks
9. It's Harder to Skim Ebooks or Take Notes
10. You May Retain More from Print Books"

One of my pet peeves is the use of the term "E book" (ebook, e-book, etc.) I forget the technical term for such type of language (George Carlin would know) but long story short: an "E"book IS NOT A BOOK. A book exists APART from electronic media. A book does not need any sort of electronic display -- a book has PAGES and (usually) a cover and can be transported easily and rests on a bookshelf and needs no electricity to "work".

Yes, I know that for brevity's sake, EBOOK is the term we're stuck with as the name for those conglomerations of bits and bytes that PURPORT to be "electronic books". But I read BOOKS. Not those electronic images that call themselves Ebooks.

Okay, rant over. Carry on.
