Hi!

So i have friends in multiples with Schizophrenia, mostly positive symptoms but in periods also negative, whom all 3 of them have eating problems. They eat every 20 minutes or get REAL darn cranky and dissapear from whatever social activity we were doing. These people seriously eat every 20 minutes. Just alittle bit but still. So it hit me, one of them has full blown diabetes..The other two ACT as if they do with an instavle blood sugar which causes hunger and crankyness. So..ofc I googled and check this out:

https://www.google.com/search?ei=2EHaXLTQJaP3qwGCkJvwCA&q=schizophrenia+diabetes+of+the+brain&oq=schizophrenia+diabete&gs_l=psy-ab.1.1.35i39i19j0i203l2j0i22i30l7.2498.5734..8263...1.0..0.74.956.16......0....1..gws-wiz.......35i39j0j0i67.GzGueD6qqOo

Loads and loads of articles about the connection. The seem to think not only is there a link but that schizophrenia's connected to diabetes of the brain, in the neurons.

Does anyone here have any knowledge of this you'd like to share?

Are they on meds? Anti psychotics cause carb cravings. They are doing preliminary trials in nyc of pairing the antipsychotics with diabetes medicine (even in those without diabetes) to see if it helps with the excessive eating and accompanying weight gain.

There is also a correlation with autoimmune diseases and depression, the body attack it's own cells, including brain cells.

I believe that thicker blood caused by excess sugar might cause similar effects since the brain is highly vascularized.

The circulation problems that people with diabetes have in their hands and feet might occur in the brain in a different scale. Plus all that sugar might cause some problems since the brain already needs lots of sugar to work

Diabetes can also be key in strokes causing dementia and Alzheimer’s. My fil had a series of strokes due to not taking care of his diabetes and is now suffering from both dementia and Alzheimer’s.

This sounds interesting. How far is the research from solving this puzzle?

Best thing they can do is to work out. My friend with schizophrenia never works out and she's in bad mental shape.

I'm very sad to hear about your friend's suffering Vixy. Mental illness is horrible for the sufferer, I cannot fathom someone living in a body that is controlled by an out of control mind :-( it's hard to me to even remotely imagine.

Sugar is a fuel and of course it should be consumed in its natural form only and moderately (healthy foods, fruits and veggies etc). Unfortunately, there are too many processed and artificial sugars that wreak havoc on the mind and body, it causes unnatural spikes (sugar rush) and then you have your sugar crash, so imagine a person that thrives on sugar to keep going. Plus all the additives, artificial coloring, HFCS, etc. that are put in all the "yummy" sweet junk food.

I personally have seen mentally ill people that all they want to eat is sugar and drink sugary drinks or energy drinks. It gives them way too much energy and that makes their behavior worse as they're like trains with a never ending supply of unhealthy fuels.

I was taught a while back about people that have bitter, sad lives full of suffering, and how most of them tend to eat sweets here and there to make their lives a little happier and sweeter. The problem is, if they don't change the way they think, the sweetening of life becomes a necessity and gets out of control, leading to diabetes and health problems related with overconsumption of sugar. It makes sense as I have seen it with friends and family. Also a mentally ill person is a tormented soul that suffers constantly and why wouldn't they want to make themselves happier, even in the most unhealthy and harmful way :-(

according these guys and a couple more papers I found it appears that the thicker blood damage the blood brain barrier, so it causes the brain to become full of inflamatory componentes plus some other "trash", causing tought interference and decreased neurogenesis. Quite interesting, actually.

It's like a city under siege that has it streets full of invaders. Everybody shut down inside their houses and stop production.

Yes excessive consumption of sugar causes inflammation in the body and thick, sugary blood acts like an oxidant inside the body. Everywhere the blood goes, it takes that oxidation with it.

Have you seen the program "My 300 lb life"? The medic there once commented on how WHO don't treat food as addiction like other drugs

No I haven't. I cannot stomach seeing obese people trapped in a world of addiction and suffering greatly because of it. That is the problem right there, seeing a problem/pattern and still denying it. No wonder people think it's ok to overeat all the time and there's nothing wrong with it.

There's video game addiction, tv watching addiction, gambling addiction, porn addiction, internet addiction, but no food addiction? Please...

@Glad 2 know just a bit off topic now.

I reccomend My 300 lb as a good show. So far only two people that appeared couldn't lose weight. One of them blamed her weight into just being fluid retention.... rrrrrright.

The other one could lose weight because he was married with a woman that would constantly give him food whenever he asked. All his life was erratic to begin with, this was the only episode I couldn't wath at all. The host even called in social services but they said the couldn't do anything since the woman wasnt forcing the food into him. thats when he said that WHO don't consider food as na addiction.

The show is quite uplifting. People go there pleading for help, they get psychological health to deal with the trauma that lead to excesso eating and stuff. Very nice.

Thanks, it's really bad. I cant even hold a conversation with her anymore, she cant follow and just rambles on about what's going on in her mind, mostly religious things she's hooked on that makes no sense. Her three children with a drug addict father, are since many years taken care of by the authorities so luckily they're managing well bc their environment change. I've known her for 7 years now and have broken off the contact man times bc I'm physically ill and dont have the strenght for this but she doesnt respect or understand it so she comes knocking on my door, I had to put a sign up on my mailbox saying "Asleep, please do not disturb" and call her mother to put a stop to it. She's been stalking her junkie ex boyfriend for 9 years although he's made it overly clear (he's even physically attacked her on several occasions) that he wants nothing to do with her. She does the craziest things so the police come and get her and detain her in a mental ward for a while, putting her on medications but then they let her out and it starts all over again. So..it's a hassle.

Shes eating pretty good food from what I understand but her body's swollen, one can clearly see on her hands and body that she's swollen. So something makes her swell up. I thought since she had a hair mineral analysis done, and it came out she had so much copper that she topped the scale, a diet for copper detox would help but.. Cant make her eat special things, and she says shes eating healthy which I think she is but the question is how much she understands about it. She lives in her own world, completely, where things doesnt work like in our regular world, so its hard to tell.

The diet I'm thinking of is this: https://drlwilson.com/Articles/VEG DIET.htm
