Do any of you have pets and if so, feel free to elaborate. By all means, include pictures if you like. I would also like to know about pet laws, etc where you live. Do you like animals? Do they add to your life or are you perhaps too busy to have any? I know some countries have certain animals which are sacred, etc, so please share that as well. I am just wondering how pets work into peoples lives or not here and how we see them.

My family has two whippets. One black and white, one grey and white. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whippet
They rule my house now. They are both asleep on the couch next to me, with me stuck in the muddle. I predicted that to my husband when he insisted on getting two.

My other "pets" aren't really pets but they visit our yard daily.
Most common visitors are rainbow lorikeets. http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/species/Trichoglossus-haematodus
They are wild birds that come to eat the birdseed we put out.
They are very bossy and noisy so they keep away the other native birds a fair bit.
The most beautiful of them are the king parrots. http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/species/Alisterus-scapularis
Kookaburras visit the neighbours because they put meat out for them. http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/species/Dacelo-leachii

Despite all that I am still a cat person at heart, but I am glad we don't have one because of all the birds.

Such pretty dogs! :)

I love dogs, more than people often. Still miss my parents' dog who passed about 2 years ago. He was more than just a dog. He could sense when I was sad or sick or any mood really and would come alongside me. He wasn't overly licky either, which was nice. He just had the funniest little mannerisms like snorting when he was happy and twisting around on his back to scratch himself. He thought everyone existed just for him. Any visitor? They were there for him and just didn't know it yet. We spoiled him rotten. I visited my parents more when he was still around just to see him. When they first got him, I was living temporarily with them, but I know I stayed almost 2 years because I wanted to play with the puppy. Eventually the desire for freedom won out. I became the dog sitter. He was totally in control of all of us. :)

Yes, I think pets add value to life because they just love us. This could be any pet: dog, cat, bird, hamster, horse, pig, etc. They know who their people are. I was once called the dog whisperer by a friend of mine because even shy and skittish dogs like me. They know I love them.

Had almost won over a German Shepherd, but he and his family moved.

I have two cats and a recently aquired aussie shepherd.

They all get attention. The aussie is pretty active so me and my son usually take him out when the wife is making dinner. Thats our father/son/dog time :p

Our tabby cat is very friendly but she can be mean towards the dog and our tuxedo cat.

I have a lot of wildlife (hawks, fox, deer, etc) near where I live just outside of the city. I have owned several dogs and currently, have one of the coolest cats ever. I am like an animal magnet for they come to me 95% of the time and strays really come my way. I caught two horses that escaped their stables recently and tied them to the front yard apple tree. Oddly, the owners seemed not so appreciative and left my yard full of poo and dug up. So, yeah, sometimes I like animals and not their owners. There are some farms nearby as well and several animals rescue. The US is more cat/dog types but there are some with exotic pets. I am not as into those not wanting a snake personally or a ferret. I once saw a baby torn up by a pet ferret while the parents were in the other room watching TV.
If I had an exotic pet. A lion or a tiger.
I fed a baby tiger before and got to play with him. Was such a unique experience

This is our boy Cesar :) He is 7 and has health issues. He is a diabetic. We buy vetsulin online and give him shots two times a day. I should say, this is my first big dog. I used to have dogs of smaller breeds before. But now I absolutely love Cane Corso. By the way, they are great for families with kids.
