Okay, I am excited. Maybe you think I'm easily excited, who knows... but this is very exciting to me

maybe you already know about this.....

ahem....

if you are like me you have been conflicted! You want to use "lol" but for reasons relating to the Sunnah- you don't want to use "lol"! What to do?????????!

The solution has been discovered: smt (showing my teeth)! And so I am making this thread to encourage you to use smt instead of "lol".

"Lol"? What?? *scratches head* That's old school! Be young and hip! Use smt! It's what the cool kids are doing smt : )

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the smt, have fun with it, use it with your friends and family and I just wanted to tell people about "smt". Whether you love me, hate me or feel in between- I did not come up with it. I got it from someone else and he said he got it from someone else.

So thanks for reading and I hope you use smt. I'm pretty excited about it smt : )

What reasons relating to the Sunnah, are you referring to?
"Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was never reported to have laughed out loudly (LOL) even once. Whenever Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) found the need to express his happiness, he would smile out quietly (SOQ).

SubhanAllaah! Today we claim to love Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) more than any one else, but when we find the need to express our happiness, all we end up doing is to write this absurdity in the likes of LOL (Laugh out loudly), which explicitly goes against the established sunnah of Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم).

Narrated 'A’isha (Radhi Allaahu ‘Anha): “I never saw Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) laughing loudly enough to enable me to see his uvula, but he used to smile only."

(Bukhari Book 60 Hadith 353)

Hence, rather than using LOL (Laugh out loudly), the sunnah way of expressing your joy is to use SOQ (Smile Out Quietly) :)

Revive the Sunnah, Inshaa Allaah :) "

Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Do not laugh too much. Verily, too much laughter will deaden the heart.”

In another narration, the Prophet said, “You should laugh less. Verily, too much laughter will deaden the heart.

I think I've seen somewhere that Muhammad (PBUH) would smile and show his teeth.... I got the "smt" thing from someone else and I thought it was a good idea

Muslims are supposed to enjoin the good and forbid the evil... AS is very trustworthy when it comes to promoting the evil and attacking the good... seems to be a human devil. He has a forked tongue.

Right, well I disagree with your stance.

'Laughing out loud' is perfectly within the limits of what is considered permissible. Some hadith merely narrate the character of the prophet as, he was reserved and shy. All I see is the hadith is telling us about his introverted nature...he didn't bawl over with laughter and was minimal with his displays of joy.

In reference to the hadith about excessive laughter, you're correct this does harden the heart. Getting accustomed to laughter distracts one from reflecting on matters of significance…and one who laughs excessively does not have a respectful demeanor. In the secular world, no one likes a joker and they aren't taken seriously. This is all that is meant by the hadith, it doesn't extend to the light hearted exchange of 'lol'. We are just told, in this hadith, to remain calm and refrain from excessive displays of pleasure.

When you laugh, you sometimes can't control it, so we do need to remain somewhat realistic about how we can draw lessons from the hadiths. Some of the Sunnah can be followed literally, e.g. growing a beard and some can't be followed literally (like this) due to the sponantoeus nature of the action being described. It's there as a reminder and reflection, in order for us to grow and perfect our spirituality.

Excess of anything can kill your spirituality, not just laughter.

I just think you're overthinking this 'lol thing.
