I’ve been listening to a few groups and realizing how they went downhill after losing a band member. What groups can you think of that fell prey to this phenomenon (or the opposite).
I can think of a few...
Mute Math - guitarist Greg Hill - 2 great albums, Hill left, they lost their sound and their edge.
Weezer - bassist Matt Sharp - 2 great albums, exit Sharp, they eventually became a glorified cover band and shell of themselves.
Def Leppard - death of Steve Clark, nuff said. Last good album was Hysteria. He died shortly after. They never recovered musically or creatively.
Three Days Grace - Singer Adam Gontier - A great band that suffered from being a bit derivative. That charge got amplified after Gontier left.
