Minneapolis City Council unanimously votes to ABOLISH its police department and replace it with a community-led public safety system - while NYC leaders push plan to cut $1 BILLION from the NYPD budget
  • The Minneapolis City Council on Friday unanimously passed a resolution to replace the police department
  • The council will pursue a community-led public safety system as a replacement
  • Council members signing the resolution said reform of the police would not work and a full replacement of the current system was necessary
  • 'No amount of reforms will prevent lethal violence and abuse by some members of the Police Department against members of our community,' it said
  • The move comes days after a veto-proof majority of the council voted to disband the police department
  • The decision follows weeks of protests over the death of George Floyd at the hands of the city's police

I can see a development of a rival military organisation that takes over states, and certain states are owned by this.

If you’re gonna disrespect and punish the police...why should they stick around? They put their lives at risk everyday and now they’ll be thrown under the bus or even prosecuted for doing their jobs? Who’d want to do that then?

NYPD limits number of cops filing for retirement amid 400% surge of officers heading for the exit because of 'lack of respect' spurred by protests and 'loss of overtime pay following Bill de Blasio's $1Bn cuts'

At the end of the day, this is going to affect the poor, lower middle class and all of those people who can't afford paying private security. Because, be sure that, multimillionaires and such won't be unprotected. It's a step to favelization.

I think it’s going to have an effect on all citizens actually..the criminals will be emboldened by this.

If cops were abolished, we'll have every right to defend ourselves, we in gun-free Britain will have to use cricket bats but you lucky Americans can buy guns as easy as buying packs of gum..:)

Haha...well the people in LA might very well be happy to see UN troops..its the US troops they wouldn’t want to see..they and Portland...and Seattle...and Minneapolis. Or is it that they really want the social workers to come and soothe their souls? ;)
Do you even know what social workers do??

Now they are the police force in some dem cities?
Yeah... nope. But they aren’t “soothing people’s souls” either. They handle and effectively deescalate tense crisis situations every day. On top of that there is no need for police at a mental health or medical call and they’re being sent on those now frequently resulting in tragedy. Or in schools while we are on the matter. There’s also no need for six cops in three cars to be involved in a traffic stop for an expired inspection.
