The squeaky clean and lighthearted image that attracted a lot of people to Kpop is starting to fade away fast. I wonder... The SK entertainment industry is slowwly starting to resemble Hllywd...
That image was always a facade, it's so interesting that it lasted as long as it did in the age of the internet. I feel like Kpop is going through what Hollywood went through from the 30s onward - it's just that in Kpop it's happening in a really short time period of about two decades or so. They're just about approaching where US pop music was in the 90s now, so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot more groups start to truly implode. For some reason they've managed to keep things weirdly contained despite social media and everything, but I don't think that kind of ~protectionism~ will last much longer - it's already fraying.
In other news. G-Idle really is ascending. That Lion video is so full of symbolism it reeks. Monsta X is an interesting case. They're very much in the system but someone's trying to sabotage them....
One group that has always interested me is Mamamoo. They are having a comeback soon, and the concept is about multiple universes. I'm not sure what to make of it yet. Sometimes the symbolism in their videos is very subtle and other times it's overt. They haven't
quite had their Little Mix 'Black Magic' moment but I feel like it's coming or they've been building towards it.
I had a chuckle at Jennie hanging out with the upcoming madames of Young Hollywood. Gigi, Kendall and those awful people. She's going to find herself in a mess soon.
